Celebrating the publishing of my article and the end of the iPhone SDK Non-disclosure with some homemade (not ho-made) guacamole and homemade guac-salsa. - Dread Pirate PJ
I made the guac and guac-salsa on the spot, no recipe, from three
avocados my aunts' friend gave me from her yard. - Dread Pirate PJ

"Do university programs adequately prepare software developers for today’s world of work? Now that Agile software development is being adopted at an unprecedented rate, developer skillsets particularly need broadening. In this article Dr. Dave West discusses a nascent discipline, “Systems Development”, which emphasizes humanity, craft, design, creativity, innovation, and emergence - in contrast with current university computing disciplines, infused with a value system centered on formalism, control, engineering, and determinism." - Dread Pirate PJ

"MacRuby now supports the creation of GUIs with Cocoa - actually there are two ways of building GUIs. One way is to use the Interface Builder (IB) that comes with Apple's XCode. The GUIs created with the IB can be connected to Ruby classes via actions and outlets (which hold references to GUI components). MacRuby ships a tool - written in Ruby - to create the metadata necessary to map from Ruby code constructs, like accessors or methods, to actions or outlets." - Dread Pirate PJ

Great bud.tv content, SFW but wear headphones just in case someone objects to bleeped swear words (believe me, it's happened to me, there's goody-two-shoes moralist idiots in every work environment.) - Dread Pirate PJ
@Paul: I had to ween myself from FF back in early August to really concentrate on a project. I'm slowly bringing myself back to the fold, but I'm afraid of giving in and having my every minute taken over by FF and refreshing every 15 minutes like back in July. :-) - Dread Pirate PJ

My buddy Joseph Hill is Product Manager for Mono @ Novell. He is interviewed about the latest Mono advancements. I've personally successfully deployed 2 .Net apps on Linux since 2006, but there are still more than a few caveats. Cool fact: when the C# 3.0 spec was released, Mono implemented C# 3.0 compiler from the spec before MS did. :-) - Dread Pirate PJ

If everybody is using Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Doc, we begin to lose our control over our choices of web applications, just as we [lose our choices if we all] have to use Windows OS. - Dread Pirate PJ
So welcome to a software modernism age. Welcome Google’s fast-food web apps. Keep Google Bauhaus design doctrine in mind: “Our Web Apps are so simple, secure and fast, that’s all you need for your Internet.”
Is simple, secure and fast all we want? If design is about the value, not the truth, where can we target our values in this fast-food software culture? - Dread Pirate PJ
Deep thoughts from a Mozilla intern. Right on the money on the parts quoted above. Discuss amongst yourselves. - Dread Pirate PJ
