Come and describe the dream you had last night. You never know, it could be therapeutic. Fancy yourself a dream analyst? Then chime in and give your view about someone else's dream. Admin: Steve Isaacs
i don't mind surprise naps, in fact i like them sometimes. what i DO mind is having the dreams in them populated with dead people from my past (friends, family, co-workers) wandering around and pretending they're alive but occasionally interrupting things to remind me that they are, in fact, very dead...and then demonstrating it in various ways.
I dreamt I woke up in prison, and I wasn't the least bit surprised. The inmates were mostly political dissidents, but many were extremely young, barely 18. The guards could speak English and Spanish with equal facility. They had educational classes teaching astronomy....
One of the ways they tried to control us was by implanting a chip into our ears with a miniature speaker that would whisper the kinds of things people with schizophrenia or major depression with psychosis would hear, like "You're worthless, no one cares if you die, why don't you just kill yourself, etc..." For some reason, I found this oddly comforting, and they had to take it out of me because I was responding so paradoxically.

When I woke up, I immediately thought about all the Philip K Dick novels I've read, and of the Black Iron Prison. The Empire never ended....

Had the weirdest dream around 4 this morning. Dreamt that I did battle against AM and had to rescue various FFers from the mainframe. Had to check that I still had a mouth this morning. That's the last time I fall asleep reading Harlan Ellison.
The term was coined in 1958 by Klaus Conrad, who defined it as the "unmotivated seeing of connections" accompanied by a "specific experience of an abnormal meaningfulness", but it has come to represent the human tendency to seek patterns in random nature in general, as with gambling, paranormal phenomena, religion, and even attempts at scientific observation.

would also make a sweet prog rock song title. :P

I guess this whole rapture thing has worked its way into my subconscious. I dreamt we had a magnitude 9 earthquake, causing the hillside where my parents' house is to liquify, and allowing the sea to break through 15 miles inland.
this morning i dozed off on the couch. i dreamed i was standing in the middle of a cow pasture on a sunny Spring day. the wind was cool and refreshing. puffy clouds drifting past in the sky. i wore khakis, a cable knit sweater and brushed suede loafers. in my hands were a tablet of college-ruled paper and a #2 pencil.
and the entire time, in between deep breaths of exhilaratingly fresh air, was spent inventing truly filthy three letter acronyms and the occasional limerick.

Going back to sleep this morning, I dreamed I had joined up with a running club. Twice we were having races and I was thwarted by Joshua Jackson on a recumbent bike coming right at me. I was so frustrated the second time, I threw my shoes at him. All three of them. Wait, what? Yeah.
I dreamt I was driving south on the I-5 approaching the S-curve in downtown San Diego, with a blue parakeet flying around in the car, when I got hit by a 50 foot wave.

i dreamed i was teaching remedial freshman algebra at a local junior college. as i passed out the pop quiz to find out if anyone had actually been paying attention the past few weeks, the assistant to the department head popped her face through the door and announced that it was time for me to head to Wardrobe.
i followed her down the hall and around two corners to a door with a placard sticking out over it that read "COSTUME AND MAKEUP". a team of diminutive men and women guided me inside and into a chair very much like i remember from real life, only filtered through the dozens of staged promotional photos we've all seen of the artist getting ready for his/her performance. what this had to do with getting the GED-set caught up with the rest of the pack was beyond me, but i played along.

first they fitted me with something like a cross between a bald cap and a hair net, then laid down a foundation of this somewhat powdery flat white foundation over every exposed inch of my head, including the neck and ears. this was followed with drawn on eyebrows and a tiny pout of a mouth in red face paint. as the kimono and wig went on, a dawning realisation crept over me: I WAS BEING DRESSED AS A GEISHA!
- Joe The Sausage
a very small and elderly Japanese woman in aggressively plain clothing and scrubbed face entered the room and spent the next 45 minutes giving me a crash course on performing the tea ceremony.
- Joe The Sausage
the assistant to the department head suddenly returned and then she and my elderly tutor frog-marched me back to my classroom and set me down where my desk had been, which was now occupied by all the props needed for repeating what i had just been taught.
- Joe The Sausage
nothing very Zen about my experience in this dream. :P
- Joe The Sausage
the dream ended with me waking up cos my 2 year old dotter had climbed into bed and snuggled up to me and her blanket brushed my face. a good way to wake up.

Dreamt last night that a write-in campaign, which was someone's idea of a joke, ended up with me becoming a US Senator. It went about as well as one would expect. Serves me right for falling asleep watching MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON.
Actually, Mark, for a man of his time, Khan was a centrist. He practiced an early form of socialism and provided religious freedom to all his subjects. Actually, he sounds a lot more centrist than most centrists. :D

No offense, Steven, but I'm voting for Mary Carmen :)

But where would they go? We could not, in good conscience, recommend Dallas or Houston. And quite frankly, sleepy little San Antonio is too pedestrian for two awesome people like them.
- Steven Perez
I dreamt I was having an out of body experience. It felt like I was rising up and felt the slight pressure of moving through floors as I went up. Once "out", it felt like I made the decision to race to the east so everything would be in sunlight. I felt like I was rushing somewhere and it seemed like I was looking out a window and my...
...reflection made it seem like I was in a spacesuit. Then I was abruptly in a store of some kind with unfamilar products and marking. I had some kind of conversation with someone in a side room and saw myself walk up so we could be integrated back together. If it weren't for the fact that we live on the top floor, I would have truly thought I was traveling. Everything was so bright and vivid and colorful.

Maybe I need to find something else to do with my free time besides play games. I dreamt that a cadre of undead businessmen and their zombie minions were trying to strong-arm the mayor of my Sim town into letting them build a sprawling mall-and-parking lot complex that would cause untold ecological catastrophe. While the Sim mayor tried to stall...
If your dreams could be recorded, do you think they'd be just like you remember them, or do you think there'd be a lot of extra detail that you missed when you dreaming them?
I think there would be a lot of detail I ignored. When recounting my dreams, I can picture settings vividly, but I don't share that. Then, something will happen that will trigger a memory of a dream and pieces I had forgotten.
- Anika
I don't remember most of my dreams, so I would see a lot of extra detail on viewing the recording.
- John (bird whisperer)
I've thought of actually drawing some of the areas/locations that my dreams take place in, because they repeat, but the detail I remember is actually more than could be represented in a drawing. It would need some kind of immersive environment. I eagerly await holodeck technology.
- Andy Bakun
Andy, yes! I often have delved into my architectural programs or even The Sims, to explain a dreamscape and still there's something missing, that I don't know how to create.
- Anika
Many of my dreamscapes are conglomerations of places I've been or seen, with a major feature that is entirely fictional.

I dreamt that I almost got into a car accident with a short blue van that was really top heavy, driven by Martin Mull, with Fred Williard in the passenger seat.
Last night's dream: a FriendFeed party. Not much furniture in my place, so there was lots of room (and drinks) for all. I'm still mad about the bed, though.
Had a really strange one last night. I dreamt that I was speeding around in my car, driving like a total douche, managed to flip my car and smash it into a wall. I somehow survived, the car grew back its parts and I kept driving. Basically, I dreamt that I was driving in a video game.
"Dreaming is one of the most mysterious and interesting experiences in our lives. During the Roman Era, some dreams were even submitted to the Roman Senate for analysis and dream interpretation. They were thought to be messages from the gods. Dream interpreters even accompanied military leaders into battles and campaigns! In addition to this, it is also known, that many artists have received their creative ideas from their dreams. But what do we actually know about dreams?"

I dreamt a really famous newscaster was in an abusive relationship and ended up murdering her abuser by slicing him open from groin to chest with a machete.
Thinking a nap would help me refocus for an upcoming midterm, I took a nap. But instead of nervous dreams about arriving to class naked, my dream was about cats! Hundreds of cats. Climbing all over me. Sticking their noses in my face. Purring. Nudging me for pets. Not sure how I feel about that.
last night i dreamt of a large, skink-like animal trapped inside of a giant colosseum. there was an army of gladiators attempting to outfit said skink in an expertly-crafted, hand-painted cardboard dinosaur costume. (via http://friendfeed.com/alexish...)
i dreamed my daughter and i drove from Fort Worth to Wichita and switched out on driving duty at Norman (just outside OKC). she is turning 4 at the end of September.
additional detail: she insisted on playing nothing but Crowded House, The Beatles and Cannibal Corpse on the CD player. Cannibal Corpse?? WTF?!?
- Joe The Sausage
@Johnny: apart from the lead foot and the tendency to invent new and complicated curses for other drivers, yes.

Good morning, FriendFeed. Had a very strange dream last night: a group of young women wearing plastic bunny ears all wanted to lick my face. I think there was a riot of some sort.
Good morning, Alejandro. It most certainly is not. :D

Pffft! Lack of sleep was not due to mocking teh bunneh. It was due to Dave's pool night making him miss Burn Notice, so we stayed up to watch the repeat.

i dreamed a friend of mine came down to visit and do some recording with me. but then she proceeded to bend over the mixing desk at every opportunity while giving me the big eyes and showing me her wiggling butt in short shorts. as usually happens in my dreams, i was fixated on non-sexual things such as track assignments and what mics we should be using.
- Joe The Sausage
I think I've had that dream before ... ER, not of anyone here on FriendFeed! *blush*

I can see this in the future: "Mom, do we have to watch TERMINATOR: SALVATION ***again***?" :D

I haven't seen that movie yet... don't think I want to but I WILL BE WATCHING PUBLIC ENEMIES! Two hotties in one movie? *swoon*
