Actually, I was involved in a similar incident myself as a Kindergartener. Teracher kicked me out of the class and told me to "go home." I ran home -- a six-year-old running home himself -- and cried to my mom that I was "fired from Kindergarten." In the postmordem, I was moved to another class (including briefly being moved up a grade) and the teacher wasn't fired. - Chris Reed

@Chris Reed: In 6th grade I transferred to new school (family moved). New teacher didn't want another student in overcrowded class, so she put me somewhere else...a class for kids with learning disabilities. Poor kids were reading at 1st grade level. First time I read aloud, the teacher's mouth dropped to the floor. She marched me to the office. Principle summoned idiot teacher who had "demoted" me and chewed her out. Needless to say, I was placed back where I belonged. - Robert Stevens

I can add to this about Robert's third grade in a new school. His teacher sent a note home one day about some minor infraction. She made numerous grammatical errors in the note. I corrected each, used a bright red pen, marked it "F," sealed it in an envelope so Robert wouldn't know, and sent it back to her via Robert. I never heard from her again! - Robert J. Stevens, Sr.

That story brings back childhood nightmares... at 4, I was considered difficult, boisterous, disobedient and disruptive at infants school, until finally aged 6 or 7 they diagnosed my deafness. My parents took me out immediately and into another one; I did fine there. Still keep in touch with those teachers. Years later, when bumping into the ghastly teacher, I took a great deal of pleasure in telling her I went on to get a doctorate. Teachers can be intolerant, mean spirited and spiteful wherever you go. - Sally Church

@Robert, no, I saw that one as well. I don't get to comment as often as I'd like, but I at least manage to skim Autism Vox regularly. That teacher was, however, disciplined (immediately suspended without pay). What galled me the most about this one was that the school appears to be doing NOTHING. - Cyndy
