Unit testing in Coders at Work - http://www.gigamonkeys.com/blog...
»I suspect, having done a small amount of TDD myself, that this is actually a pattern that arises when a programmer tries to apply TDD to a problem they just don’t know how to solve. If I was a high-priced consultant/trainer like Jeffries, I’d probably give this pattern a pithy name like “Going in Circles Means You Don’t Know What You’re Doing”. Because he had no idea how to tackle the real problem, the only kinds of tests he could think of were either the very high-level “the program works” kind which were obviously too much of a leap or low-level tests of nitty-gritty code that is necessary but not at all sufficient for a working solver. - Daniel Sandler

"> There aren't many things you can do to securely DRM text. Are you kidding me? Of course you can! All you have to do is create an entirely new generation of devices that will "play" only "authorized" text content (viz., encrypted and signed by a Big Key In The Sky). Of course, you'll need special (expensive, natch) cables, plus crypto handshakes up and down the stack—from the network and storage medium all the way up to your computer screen or ebook reader or mobile phone. If you connect an unauthorized monitor or printer to said playback device (read: one that is missing the decryption magic and whose manufacturer probably didn't cough up cash to the giant standards cabal), the whole thing shuts down in a flash, probably also melting your carpet. Of course, since existing devices work perfectly well for this purpose and are *not* DRM-encumbered, we'll need to come up with some way to trick people into throwing those old (money-losing) devices out and buy new (money-grubbing)..." - Daniel Sandler

"They can still bring legal action against you, halting the release of your game and costing you tens of thousands of dollars. If you're hoping for this little side project to take off and become your day job, a protracted trademark dispute (irrespective of its legal merit) is about the worst way I can think of to get things started. Why not steer way, _way_ clear of trouble rather than skirting it?" - Daniel Sandler

"I LOLd. My own 1400cs is a lovely bookend at the moment. I tried putting MkLinux on it waaaay back, but never got anywhere, IIRC, due to hardware support issues with: * the keyboard (ADB yet not ADB somehow) * the CD-ROM (kinda important for installing Linux) * the PCMCIA Ethernet Before that I tried linux-m68k on my PowerBook 520c, with similar results. I'd love to be able to fire those computers up again, but using them as a ZTerm serial console seems pretty lame…" - Daniel Sandler
