"He was skin and bone, his hair had fallen out and had been eating nothing but pills when he died. Injection marks all over his body and the disfigurement caused by years of plastic surgery show he’d been in terminal decline for years. "
- Jeff P. Henderson
and this is what years of drugs will do to you. Just ask Ozzy, who somehow is still alive. Maybe the clue is to STOP USING THE DAMN DRUGS! I'm all a fan of legalization, and I think maybe legalization would have allowed him to actually get help. Never know. I think the doctor will end up being tried for murder over this. Just my gut instinct.

The Daily Mail paints just as bleak a picture of his final years http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news... No matter what you thought of him its sad to see such talent squandered away.
- BCK
A full study of his life, not for the media but indepth study to know what made him what he was, is in order.

LEO: I really enjoyed this episode and the sort of "big picture" look at technology and culture. It made me think of an idea for a TWiT show. What if you created some sort of Digg-esque page on twit.tv. There, people could submit specific big picture topic ideas and the twit army would vote on the topic they were most interested in. Then every month, or whatever frequency you selected,...

It's amazing I can listen to TWiT right here from FriendFeed. Amazing.
- Michelle McCormack
I really liked the discussion on college and teaching methods. Probably one of the best discussions I've heard about the subject.
- TeraDyne Azurepaw
Best TWIT ever. And I was this close to unsubscribing a few weeks ago when drinking spaced out...
- Peter Nõu
It was a little more pertinent than usual. I don't know if that's good or bad, though :) Wait, was Twitter mentioned?
- randulo
Excellent show this week. Great panel.
- Doug Slater
Fantastic episode. Thank you Leo. Hoping all TWiTs are this good.

I really enjoyed the episode but disagree with some points in the discussion about education. Firstly, standardized tests are a necessity in admissions process. How else to compare thousands of applicants? I understand the frustration associated with SAT (I have never taken it but know GRE all too well) but this is one of the very few objective measures/indicators available for...

the internet company I work for dropped more than half our over the phone tech in november cut back dialup support from 24/7 to m-f 6am to 6pm mst while still keeping dsl support available 24/7 as we were one of the few all us support it really hurts when people cancel service just because they cant get to support.
- Mark
I love the longer shows.. I can listen and do work at the same time. And this treo is really fun to listen to.

Leo: When's the first episode of Laporte Courte?
- Ken Sheppardson
This is the funniest TWIT I've ever heard. Leo, Becky, John and wine are HILARIOUS together. Thanks for the deep thoughts and deep laughs!
- Matias
Fantastic episode! You must have Becky on often. Maybe a co-host?
- Dennis Hammack
"Woz, naked on a Segway with lasers... still sexier than Holly Madison" - Lolz! Becky was hysterical! I sure hope you can have her on again soon.
- Ken Morley
I signed up for friend feed just to comment that this was the best ep of TWiT i have heard yet and I've been listening for about a year and a half. I of course always love Leo and John but Becky stole the show, she is so smart and funny. Now she and Molly Wood are my favorite Females in tech. You MUST have her on more often. And yes less is more 3 hosts is perfect.
- Rolf Rasmussen
I liked Becky, too. But I ike it when Kevin Rose is on.j Or some of your stagy friends like John Hodgman
- Francine Hardaway
from twhirl
Great episode. Would enjoy another episode of TwiT with Becky, John, and Leo. I too signed up for friend feed just to comment on this episode. Thanks for all you do for the tech community Leo.
- craig sorrell
Loved this episode! Becky Worley is a kick and I always love John Dvorak.
- Bonnie Foster
LOL @ Q: "What is Bill Gates' greatest achievement?" Answer: "None"
- Mona Nomura
I'm glad to got around to agreeing, unanimously, that Bill's not evil; that gave most of the show comments/arguments some credibility.
- mark dekruyter
If there never was a gates and MS, IBM would have mismanaged the PC and dropped it, there would have been no Apple left for Jobs to rescue, and we'd all be using Commodore 256's.
- Al Trenda
Great episode, I'm loving all the stories from all the old timers :)
- James P.
from twhirl
looking forward to listening to this on my next swim.
- Thomas Hawk
@leolaporte please thank JohnC for showing . Made my day, love tech history and cranky old geeks..Bestest twit yet.
- Carol Garrett
Great episode, except John ate the entire time. I felt very hungry by the time the episode was finished.
- ComicList
I loved last night's episode. Great as always
- Grant
ya gotta see Kevin Spacey on actors studio ... doing the impressions ... go to youtube now; you'll thank me
- Dan Covington
Jamie Foxx's Ronald Reagan impression too. Freakishly good. Love that series.
- Casey
is this the best movie summer ever or what.
- Karim
That seems to be the thing, you know, create a strong personal brand, then wind up as a caricature of it. I think Baudrillard referred to that as "hyperreal." c.f. John Dvorak, Andy Rooney...
- Karim
I think he should have said BOOyahhh! differently. C'mon he's an acting coach!? :) Very funny...
- Mario Sundar
I am very excited for this and for the Dark Knight.
- RAPatton
I have not seen the first one, have no real desire to see this one, but this is a GREAT trailer! ;)
- Paula Hawk
Are you kidding me?? That was a bit too short and not super funny... not sure where the best ever hype is coming from. It's tough with actor's studio after Will Ferrell has done such a good job making fun of it- making fun of IAS is a bit hacky now.
- Brian Carter
should got a network sniffing tool to track the IP, not VB GUI
- Rif Kiamil
Television is bad for this stuff, but CSI New York is so consistently laughable it's kind of amazing. Remember the Second Life episode? Oh dear God!
- Evan Sims
Techmeme FH is superb. Far better than the main Techmeme page. Gabe would do nicely to make a Techmeme account and add the FH feed there so that people could subscribe and comment on the stories
- Jamie
Oh, I did create a Friendfeed TechmemeFH account. And the updates have images too: http://friendfeed.com/techmem... But I turned off updates because all of its posts turned up in searches for "Techmeme". I hope FriendFeed eventually offers a way around that.
- Gabe Rivera
Thanks for the heads up! I added both.
- Mitchell Tsai
Is that so bad Gabe? It is a shame though. Would have been really nice to have discussions around the headlines for those of us not in the blogging game.
- Jamie
Are these accurate transcriptions? Quotes: "Do you have a cloud? I suspect not." Yes, Freud called this Cloud Envy. "We need to keep connectivity pervasive." Don't you mean, you need to MAKE connectivity pervasive...? "Google was born with the web, it's the only platform we know. We created the Internet. We agreed on HTTP, CSS, etc." Wait, wait, I thought that was Al Gore....
- Karim
"The HTML 5 Group has taken many of the key attributes of Gears. HTML 5 and Google are best friends. We think that is the future of the web browser." So, um, is that "HTML 5 totally rips off Gears," or "Gears will be useless when HTML 5 is widely adopted?"
