If this is true, it's really embarrassing for the U.S. With modern computers, adding crypto to communication links is essentially free. Of course, Predators were clearly engineered a long time ago, and you don't just casually tweak such things. - Dan Wallach

For maximum effect, read this while being in the middle of writing a review for "Stop Acting Rich" or "The Millionaire Next Door." - Piaw Na
"To be blunt, I just want to marry into the West. The Western world I have seen in television and movies is simply like heaven. Regardless whether bustling cities or quiet villages, everything seems to be so peaceful and harmonious." ... "[In China] what can I do about the excessively expensive medical bills? Western countries have universal health care." - Simon
Just goes to show --- a little marketing by the way of Hollywood movies goes a long way. :-) - Piaw Na
Troll! I don't think this post is real. If she looks like those pics and has half a brain, she would have accomplished her goals instead of writing that blog. Furthermore, she'd have followed up with "all men are the same..." - Peng-Toh
I am hoping this is fake. Unpleasantness all 'round. - Adam Lasnik

I can't tell if this is sincere or a clever troll. As an arrogant Chinese guy (by ethnicity, anyways), I'm going to blame the author instead of myself. =) - Andrew C from Android
Yeah, it's her fault. @Andrew, but don't you count as a Westerner? "China does not have any men suitable for me," says. But... maybe Canada? - Christopher Chung
The thing about being Chinese-Canadian is that it's a choice at any moment. - Andrew C from Android
I definitely agree with Piaw; Hollywood is impeccably skilled at creating an alternate reality that's incredibly attractive, if more than a little bit unrealistic. Whether or not the author is real, presumably this sort of thinking happens within China, among other places. The question is whether somebody like the author has a realistic way of getting out. She doesn't sound like grad school material or otherwise likely to get a work visa, unless she maybe becomes a "top model" or something. - Dan Wallach
I remember taking my college roommate from India to my parents' place in Saratoga. We walked down the main drag, and he said, "This is what my image of America is! When I arrived in Berkeley and saw all the beggars and dirty streets I was shocked!" His image of America was from the movies. And this was an IIT grad who's now a professor of CS at SUNY Buffalo, no fool he. - Piaw Na
How does he think Buffalo compares to Hollywood's vision of America? - Jim Norris
The piece was originally published in Chinese on Xinhua (the definitive source of truth) and Baidu (the unbiased Chinese search engine), so I have no doubts about its authenticity. - Darren

Not entirely sure it is Hollywood. Western men go for Asian wives *in Asia* while making parallel complaints about Western women. - Peng-Toh
Well, if Asia is full of women like that one, how could we resist? - Jim Norris

Of course, the rest of us get Windows 7 Ultimate @ $50 each. :-) - Piaw Na
I'm amused at all the different Win7 variants. You'd think Microsoft would want to simplify their product line into exactly one in-store box (keep it simple, stupid), and then sell utility software, like backups, from an app-store of some kind. (Or just bundle it all together like Apple.) - Dan Wallach from email
It's all about separating the corporate buyers (who aren't very price sensitive) from the home buyers. Since Apple has no corporate market penetration to speak of (other than Google, and if you listen to our IT department, Apple is extremely unresponsive to corporate market type requests), they can do what they do. If they ever get a corporate presence, watch them do the same thing. - Piaw Na
Maybe Apple would change, maybe not. Assuming Apple treats the OS as not a big deal and the hardware sales as their source of income, then they may not feel a need to pursue differentiation between the current client vs. server OS products. - Dan Wallach from email
I've never seen Apple give up a chance to price gouge its fanboys, uh... , customers. :-) - Piaw Na
