I'm of the opinion that 'hardware-schmardware' when it comes to mobile devices. "Do they have the Apps?" is going to be my criteria for most new things. See if you get them to answer "how are they going to compete with the Apple & Android 'app' markets?"

OMG I am so excited. *edit: low expectations, Mona. Low expectations.

Just guessing but uhhhh.. last gasp. I hope not but thats my guess.

That old silver Palm V is still my favourite most easy to use and sync PDA I ever had... she says wistfully
- Sally Church
Can you Qik it, Robert? There's not official live stream.
- Ken Sheppardson
i hear you sally. i *loved* my palm V. and the mac desktop software would probably still be my favorite calendar/contacts/todo package.

I have a Treo going to get an iPhone in April. That's what all of the cool kids have.
- Justin Rains
An iPhone killer - for sure. Why am I so certain? Because I gave up on Palm and got a G1, and my track record for prediction is awful ;)
- John Craft
I met someone yesterday who still uses the Palm he bought in 2000. It was like seeing a dinosaur first-hand.
- Jennifer Leggio
Dave, yup that integration was seamless - I wish the iPhone synced that well.

The only possibility for an iPhone killer in the next 5 years is Android... it requires an ecosystem, not just a slick product.
- Tinfoil 2.0
If Palm has cooked up an iPhone killer it could be the greatest comeback in tech since Apple itself. The problem is that Apple now has the developer ecosystem. Can they be lured away?
- invariant
Logical: Android needs to allow native apps and dump that silly Java-clone they force developers to use. They are seriously crippling their ecosystem with that nonsense.
- invariant
IMO, if Palm has an iPhone killer, that would be the greatest comeback in tech history *period*.

If I had a dollar for every iPhone Killer you've posted about.... ;-)

If the new version runs old Palm Apps, they already have a great ecosystem - but will need to win back those developers. Mostly, though, I think Palm is dead, which I hate to say because I love them dearly. Treo 680 was last straw for me - poorly made, buggy, brought nothing new or even "3 years ago new". I've been wondering for years why they never did anything with BeOS - that should have been an amazing purchase, but it never amounted to anything.

Tyson: Go compare the Foleo specs to most netbooks now on the market and come back and explain how it was a flop. It died because it was ahead of it's time and Palm didn't have the cash to carry it until the market caught on.
- Ken Sheppardson
Actually, Tyson, I wouldn't call Foleo a flop - what is it but a proto-Netbook that didn't actually fail in the market, but got sacrificed in a cash crunch? Had Nova debuted on schedule (i.e. years ago), we might be looking at a Netbook market dominated by the Foleo brand.
- John Craft
Well, it never really chance to prove itself in the market, although the concept made sense. Not sure if you could have called it a forerunner to the RedFly, for what it's worth.

I'll be at the NME. I live in Vegas so it's kind of a no-brainer for me, though I'm only registered for the exhibit hall and keynotes.
