Yes... very interesting. Great imagery, but I'm not so sure on the ending ;-) - ChangeForge | Ken Stewart
many dislike this movie. i am of the 'really-liked-it-alot' camp. Aronofsky has all the makings of a great film maker. I look forward to The Wrestler, The Fighter and Robocop. - Carlos Ayala
soundtrack > movie - embee
Disliked? I'm surprised. I absolutely loved it. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
I liked it a lot. I was an Aronofsky fan before watching it so that was a factor. I loved Pi and Requiem for a Dream. - Rodfather
@embee Clint Mansell and Kronos Quartet strike again like they did in Pi and Req. @JMS, i think that most didnt get it so (profit-wise) it was a bust. even the critics are torn. that being said, it did go on to win a ton of awards globally. @Rodfather Pi and Requiem are two of my faves. - Carlos Ayala
I also loved Pi. Haven't see Requiem, but it's on my must see list now. Checked out The Painted Veil for tonight. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
I was expecting very good things from this but ended up underwhelmed. Worth a watch, but not as good as pi/requiem - David Miller
That was Kronos? That I didn't know. No wonder I loved the music so much. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
Fountain was Clint Mansell, Requiem was Kronos - embee
Yes Kronos in Req and the Fountain, not Pi. - Carlos Ayala
Ugh...that movie was boring...We kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. I recommend whenever people ask that it's completely missable. - Alex Scoble CISSP
You thought it was boring?! Looks like this was one of those movies that people either really liked or really didn't. Interesting. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
I thought it was interesting but I guess I just didn't get it. I'd watch it again if I was given a brief rundown and what the heck happened. Visual stunning movie though, brilliant - Kol Tregaskes
Clint Mansell is great, the music from Req is incredible! - Kol Tregaskes
It covered the past, present, and future. In every period, the man was seeking to keep the female alive because of his great love for her (or the country in the case of the past.) - Jill, Superhero Librarian
I thought it was awesome -- had to watch it twice to start to actually understand it,though. - Alix Whitmire ƸӜƷ
It's not even past, present and future...There's one storyline that is real, one that's part of a book and the "future" plot thing, I don't know what the heck that was. Oh and it didn't have a happy ending, which is definitely a turn off moviewise for me. - Alex Scoble CISSP
It's a top 5 for me. :) -- @alex ... what do you mean... the ending was certainly happy... just a different level of understanding. ;) - Brandon
His wife dies...hardly a happy way to end a movie. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Well, no reason to see it now. :-/ - JC unwired
Some movies don't need happy endings to be good. Makes them more real. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
So still confused by what the film was trying to tell me, lol. I must watch it again some time. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
I don't think it's that clear cut. One can interpret it as three separate plots, or as actual continuous history (if the Tree of Life is real.) I'm a big fan of the tragic ending, although it can be argued that reaching enlightenment, and coming to terms with and accepting the necessity of death is not necessarily tragic. - Victor Ganata
One of my favorite films of 2006. It did polarize critics and audiences, though - definitely a love it or hate it kind of film. My theory - it's a right-brain film, and people who try to make it fit into logical left-brain categories are going to be disappointed, because it doesn't. Now I want to rewatch. - Jandy Stone
Great movie. I suppose the movie is hard to understand for some, though. - Alejandro S.
I thought the movie was magnificently made. - Andrew Trinh
Agree, soundtrack > movie - Nick Humphries
I really like that movie! I've seen it 3 times already. - David Cook
Kol, in my book, almost without exception (Reservoir Dogs being one) a movie REQUIRES a happy ending to be good. I don't see movies to see something REAL. I see movies to be entertained and enriched. To feel better about the world than when I went in. Obviously this is my opinion, but it's one that I've found to be true for me. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Didn't care for Fountain myself (despite really wanting to). I don't like movies that are incomprehensible upon a single viewing - it's one thing to be "clever" (Usual Suspects, etc), it's another to leave a viewer bewildered wondering what they saw. - Jeremy Toeman
@alex people may die but [something] of/about them lives on ... that was the repeated theme in the movie. Also, the acceptance that, 'you too are going to die'. - Brandon
Face it, this is an "elitist" type movie. If you were an English major, if you like digging around symbolism and allusion as if you were writing a term paper, if you like to talk about things like "tropes" and "themes", then this is a great movie. If you just wanted to have a good time and like straight-forward storylines, not so much. - Victor Ganata
Alex, I understand that most people like happy endings but I'm good either way, so long as I enjoy the movie that's all that matters. - Kol Tregaskes
Yup, one person's brie is another person's stinky feet. - Alex Scoble CISSP
@victor Your inability to enjoy a movie does not make someone who can -- an elitist. Many people enjoy movies that don't follow a traditional story line. You don't, you find comfort in movies with a predictable story line. The idea that some people are elitist because they enjoy reflection is just an animadversion. - Brandon
A graphic novel based on the movie was published: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T... (warning, the Wikipedia entry basically recaps the whole story, so if you don't want spoilers, beware). I guess the first time they tried to make the movie, production ran into issues. The graphic novel was a way to "salvage" the project, but the movie ended up being produced after all. I'm quite interested to see the movie myself. I'm no elitist English major, but I do like a complex movie sometimes. - Cheryl Jones
