Thanks Yuvi! Your analysis is awesome! I had no idea actually that 1. I shoot in Program Mode as much as I do. 2. That I use my 135 f/2 lens as much as that or that 3. I shoot at 1600 iso as much as I do. Offered up my comments on your stats and talk about why I shoot in Program Mode so much instead of Aperture Priority or Manual Mode! - Thomas Hawk
How cool - have asked for it for mine (http://www.flickr.com/photos/p...) - Phill "Snowman" Price
This is really helpful analysis and offers far more insight into my photos than my basic Flickr stats page. I've been meaning to do a post with some of the same information in it using Adobe's Bridge software to analyze my photos on my hard drives at home but very cool that Yuvi beat me to the analysis. :) - Thomas Hawk
Thank you so much for this post! I would've NEVER guessed you shot in Program Mode. And Yuvi, that is an awesome app. You will definitely get your laptop soon :) - Mona N.
Thomas, I posted a comment on Yuvi's entry.. but I thought I'd ask you. Do you deliberately avoid using a flash of any kind (including backfill) or have you found it isn't necessary for your photographic style? -- ok, read your article, mostly answered my question. Thanks. - Phil Glockner
yuvi style of analysis is really gr8.. and he's just 17 ..wait till he gets into the real world analystics and does massive number crunching at an industrial level.. his reports would be cool to read. - Peter Dawson
I think I'll do more with flash in the months ahead. I know that there are lots of creative ways to use it. It's more a matter of my comfort zone being natural light probably than anything else. - Thomas Hawk
Peter, I am worried about that, in fact. I have a feeling that we won't see much after Yuvi gets snapped up by the Microsoft or Google of the next decade and all his work becomes proprietary. And I am certain that this will happen. Not optimistic, certain. - Phil Glockner
@Phil, yes that is possible ..maybe he will be part of the MSR team or the Google Analystics team. However, I see that he is not just not about numbers only. I mean for Thomas images its pretty straight forward in terms XML and then digg out specifc attributes.. but if you notice his skills can be deeply used in the analysis matrix for personality types, music listening etc etc.. thats a really hard thing to map in /out.. - Peter Dawson
I generally use program mode. Once you realize that you can stop down the aperture on the 5d by turning the little vertical knob behind the shutter button, it makes aperture priority mode a lot less necessary. - Owen Byrne
FWIW, Lightroom gives you the same info. And I never got why there's so little love for program mode out there... these days, the automatic functions on a camera are a lot smarter than any photographer. Further, RAW gives some wiggle room, and it's not like I don't see the shot right away on the LCD. For that percentage of cases where the camera doesn't get it right, I drop into manual. For the most part though it's rather nice to just set it and forget it, and give my full attention to composition. - Eric
Thanks Thomas - Thanks folks! :) - Yuvi
Thanks to Yuvi for the data and thanks to Thomas for sharing/explaining this in terms that a novice can understand. I think many of us have been conditioned to think that we're not "real photographers" if we're not shooting manual. - asiriusgeek

@Gregory - that threw me off. - Yuvi
