"I think that you nailed it Dave. All of the XMPP developers I know aren't buying Twitter's latest argument.
I really like the Twitter team -- especially their investors -- but their lack of Gnip integration is a clear indication that this is a business decision, not a technical one. Gnip can solve Twitter's scale issues for developers if that is what they are really interested in doing.
However, if it really is that hard to scale XMPP, give Gnip the Zappos XMPP feed. Gnip can fix the *fire hose* issue for Zappos along with every other developer on the planet -- not to mention allowing Twitter to have more "Minor Periods Of Uptime."" - Todd Sampson
