I think it is a bad decision, made by someone not well acquainted with technology law, and will probably be reversed on appeal. However, if the decision does stand, if Viacom does try to bring action against individual users, you will see a HUGE civil liberties backlash. Watching a sub-10-minute video on a web site is hardly the legal infringement of downloading and sharing an entire copyrighted movie. of course, my opinion.. - J·Phil·Glockner
Won't be using YouTube anymore, that's for sure! - Martin Betts

People no longer share by inviting friends over to watch TV, they just send a link. The Living Room moved on line a long time ago. Now the courts and legislation have to catch up. - John Frost
As I said earlier... There's no such things as privacy any more. Either we give it away online via social networking, it's lost on computer discs by public officials (in the UK at least, many times in the past year) or a court grants it to corporations. Say hello to the 'naked' 21st century. - Martin Bryant
It appears to me that the powers that be in this case are only a step away from RIAA'ing themselves (Proof? We don't need no stinking proof!). Once again, the cultural and chronological line between people who understand this society and those who don't is proven to be detrimental. Perhaps it's time for there to be a new standard of understanding and judgment in cases such as this. If people broke copyright laws by uploading, then shame on them and they have to be prepared to take what is coming to them - Bradley McSpinn
I am not sure about the direct consequences of this ruling but I am not looking forward to a future where I cannot watch a video online without the fear of a lawsuit. - Jan Cifra
I hardly ever spend time on YouTube. I just don't have time to watch videos in my life. Unless it is something with super high niche interest like photography I'm just very unlikely to tune in to videos at all on the web. Every now and then I sort of stumble into something I like but in general YouTube is too big a time commitment for me. - Thomas Hawk

this is seriously effed up. the "privacies" of ordinary citizens become less private with every passing day. we've become communist russia in so many ways - Cee Bee
