Perhaps that's why I like FriendFeed so much: it reminds me of those great, early days when NNTP was the center of the web and HTTP was just a gleam in CERN's eye. - Akiva Moskovitz
Or "which email address of yours should I send this to?" - Barak B
Akiva, I think you are onto something there. Someone once told me, you can never get a PhD if you read usenet. I am starting to think the same applies with social media. - Rob Diana
Some of us still bemoan The Long September. - Ernie Oporto
Barak, or people drunk-buying goofy domains and attaching a catch-all forwarder there for a five-minute throw-away joke. A year later when the renewal notice comes up, they're confused. - Akiva Moskovitz
Ernie, indeed we do. I'd give up the <center> tag and all that followed it to get back to those days. - Akiva Moskovitz
This sounds like my grandfather talking about the good ole days... sorry, too much bloody good in today's internet compared to fidonet days :P - Michael W. May

One day folks, you'll all be dead. And I'll be doing this "longing for way back then" thing :P - Yuvi
The internet started going downhill when the <blink> tag was introduced. - Jason Carreira
No, now it is what is your Twitter id, or better what is your FF id? LOL - Igor The Troll
No. The Internet went downhill when they released the AOHellers. - Cyndy
Um, yeah. The internet was much better without Wikipedia, blogging, news sites, online video, The Onion, mp3s, the IMDb, webcomics, instant messaging, and social networks. Much better when all you could do was post to Usenet and read instructions for building a Macquarium. - Brent Newhall
Lol wut? The internet is millions of times more amazing now than it ever has been. There may be a higher percentage of idiots now, but that shouldn't stop you from appreciating how nice we have it. - Tad - the Meme Maker
In other words, when did the internet jump the shark? - Jason Kaneshiro
I don't know about you all, but the internet is constantly getting better for me. I use it more now than I ever did before. And that's *because* everyone else is on it. I swear, I would not trade in this for the days of the blink tag. - felix
Notice I wrote 'Much of the Internet' and not 'The Internet'. Also, considering the chronological context of the statement, you can't really say that things that hadn't been invented yet could go downhill. Those things started going downhill at much later dates. - Akiva Moskovitz
Ah, those were the days. Creating a geocities webpage with midi files and blinking gifs and chatting on ICQ with a dial-up connection. - Trish R
I think the best days of internet were the ones when only a handful scientists could reach it, and it was not polluted with content. C'mon, get real. If the amount of content grows, then the useless 80% grows bigger too. 80% of the internet always was useless. It's just now it means a couple million sites, and not 800. - Roland Hesz
Gotta agree with Brent - while I definitely miss the old days in many ways, overall I am thrilled that it has so permeated global culture and connected so many minds. It's certainly increased the shit level but all in all it's made the world a better place by making the recently-impossible possible. - Anthony Citrano
I don't give out my phone number, only my email :) - Mona N.
agree with Mona and thinks the internet is the best thing invented it makes accessing things much easier then it was when everything was in tomes the size of a small house especially since i used large print - Cecil Sandus
Have you guys had a Life before you found the "fountain of youth"? Will you still have a life if one day you discover it was all a myth? - Igor The Troll
I do not like Mona! I do not like her playing Jewish! I am an Israeli and having her disrespect me and Noah is insulting! Japanese chicks like Israelis but if she cannot show respect then it is not good! - Igor The Troll
