You fail if you reply "I cut off [body part type]" or "I dumped my ex [significant other type]". :P - Lindsay Donaghe
Linsday - over the last 8-9 years or so I've lost 50+ lbs. This is a really hard thing to admit - to say out loud though - because to say I've lost that much weight is also to say I was really fucking fat. (Sorry if insensitive but I'm only talking about me.) - Anthony Citrano
Lindsay, the guy who lives upstairs from me lost 35lbs in three weeks (He's like 5"11 and close to 300lbs I think) by cutting out soda, snacking, and sticking mainly to protein. Everytime I see him I compliment him and he told me today actually taht my encouragement helps motivate him :) - Mona N.
Not 50+ (though that still sounds like a good idea) but I went from 260 to a little under 220lbs last year in about six months. I did it by being hardcore about counting calories (calorieking.com helped a lot) and running every other day. - Gus Perez
Chris: good list; your #2 is probably where I'd give the most credit for my own weight loss (although quite a few of the others fall under #2 for me) - Anthony Citrano
I was bulemic in my 20s. I would not suggest that weight loss program for anyone but it does work. - Trish R
I have lost 50 pounds. I did t by eating less and exercising more. It wasn't easy, but i do recommend it. - Robert Seidman
Chris: that is an AWESOME post Trish: Many of my friends are bulemic and anorexic.. oh that and the Diet Coke and cigarette diet. DEFINITELY not recommended since their weight is always up and down. - Mona N.
I lost 50 pounds via aerobic exercise (i took up boxing regularly) and a very, very low-carb diet. Took about 8-9 months. - Morgan
I agree w/Mona, Chris, that is a great post. - Robert Seidman
130 lbs soaking wet my entire life. No tricks. Must be hyper-metabolized ?? - Charlie Anzman
"I'm on this new diet. Well, I don't eat anything and when I feel like I'm about to faint I eat a cube of cheese. I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight." - DWP .... ;) - Brandon
I lost 50 lbs down to 150 on the south beach diet + working out a few days a week. I've kept it off for 4years so far - Mike Cohen
I'd like to know as well, actually. I did lose 20 lbs due to the Atkins diet, but my health started to suffer as a result, so I stopped. - Helen Is SOOO Not Of Troy
lol Brandon - I loved that movie. - Anthony Citrano
Pure Ghee is my solution but I can' - Shahrukh via twhirl
Lindsay; I've lost 185 lbs to date. I'm actually getting ready to put up a before and after photo. It's a long road and it's not easy but there are plenty of ways to make it easier. Change your habits slowly, add exercise in as you can handle it and continue to move your routine up a bit. Oh and..belly dance. Find a class and belly dance. :D - Candace Holly
@Anthony... I loved that movie too. - Brandon
two choices really, cut back on the calories or increase the number you burn each day. Or a combo of both currently working off the 30 pounds I picked after I quit smoking and gave up caffeine 4 years ago. - Earl E Morningwood
Candace, that's awesome. Congrats. - Trish R
135lbs my whole life. Recently put on about 15lbs of muscle in a few short months. The lifting weights is easy. The eating enough to gain is hard. - Rahsheen(isSoAwesome)
About 12 years ago I went from 195 to 155 in 6 months, did it with healthy diet, morning runs, and weight training -- and oh yeah, NO BEER! Now I'm 195 at 10% bodyfat and a personal trainer - William Harryman
I've lost 30 lbs on Jennie Craig and exercise, and recently 20lbs from depression. JC taught me how little food I need to stay healthy. Once I get the taste of carbs out of my system the weight falls off quite easily. At one point I was climbing 20-25 flights of stairs each workday. The most difficult part of any diet (lifestyle change) is to stay motivated. I asked my associates to join me climbing stairs. http://www.flickr.com/search/?... - Russellreno
yes (it's 22kg). I stopped drinking beer regularly. - Duncan Riley
No, but I'm currently 3 weeks into a goal of losing 50lb by Christmas. 7lb down so far. - Sally Church via fftogo
I have no personal experience for you, but this seems intriguing: http://www.npr.org/templates/s... - Jeanine Walters
Lost 150 in a little over 16 months on Weight Watchers, plus I worked out 5-6 days a week for at least 90 minutes a day. Is it any wonder that I gained about 60 of it back? That schedule was insane, and I was bordering on an eating disorder. - Cecily Walker
I'm working on it - what I'm doing is very Atkins like (very low carb), but I'm doing it softly with allowing myself fruit and nuts. Low carbs and sugar intake seems to be the key - it's too bad because I love rice, pasta and bread. I do notice that I feel much better in general with lower carbs. My sticking point is exercise - I don't mind doing it, but I rarely make the time for it. - Vince DeGeorge
I went from 315 - 240 by 1) started walking 2) stopped drinking 2L of Coke a day 3) cut out eating fast food daily 4) started boxing 5) did 3-5 miles a day on the elliptical...that was in 2005 (it took 5 months to lose the weight),and have kept it off since (maintaining 240-245), on my way down to 220 (final goal, and I have too much muscle to think 190-200). Lots of water, stairs, and encouragement from friends/family helps too (and no "dieting") -- it's a lifestyle change, which means "permanent"! - Do You KNOW Clarence?
I once dropped a bag of concrete down a well... does that count? ;> - Danny Thorpe
Since this time last year I went from 355 to 270. Didn't join weight watchers but I followed the point system, and started walking, 4 miles 3 or 4 times a week. Portion control and low fat. - Kevin Shannon
The most important method is to lose the first 5 pounds and then keep doing what you're doing. Losing 50 lbs is pretty daunting, losing 5 lbs is fairly easy. Then you just repeat. I was talking to a friend about this and because I've got the intertia of being overweight with me, we decided that 5 days of daily exercise would likely throw my inertia in the other direction. - David Thomas
Wow, this is a great post / comment thread to read... I am struggling with weight gain (new problem - never had this before!) So this is great ...thanks everyone for sharing. - Susan Beebe
One time, I got sick and went down to 190lbs. But I'm down again to around 210-215 now. No, I do not recommend getting sick to lose weight. - Morton Fox
I lost 40 pounds once. I did it by being incredibly depressed, eating McDonald's, Jack in the Box, and frozen pizzas. I also went dancing at a night club twice a week where I'd dance, pretty much non-stop, from 11 until 2. The moral of the story: exercise. - Akiva Moskovitz
I lost 90+ pounds by strictly following the Atkins diet (basically staying in perpetual Induction phase). It took almost a year and a half to lose the weight. Went down 10+ dress sizes. But I went through a stressful time from Nov-Feb and was traveling every week for 2 months straight at the end of it. I have gained 40 lbs (I had very few "low-carb" food choices when traveling + a lot of stress). I tried going back on Atkins but it's not working for me anymore. Guess my metabolism has changed. :( - Lindsay Donaghe
Candace and Cecily - 185 and 150... that's amazing! - Lindsay Donaghe
Not 50 lbs but I've taken off 20 lbs. Trick is to eat right - for me that's 40-30-30 diet which means less carb, more protein and still get to eat some fat. That combined with exercise. It's not always easy, but you wake up each day and do your best. - AJ Kohn
40lbs since January by cutting out regular soda completely...I drink Coke Zero and Fresca for my non-water fix. I also eat a little less than I used to...but that's it...that 40 lbs is with no change whatsoever to my exercise habits. I have another 30lbs to go before I consider myself "done". - Jonas Bush
