“Someone help me out here. I'm having a debate with a coworker and he states that doing a fdisk prior to reinstalling the OS does a better format than simply running XP's installer and deleting the existing partitions and performing a full format there. Is this true?”

fdisk is a partitioning tool, their is no formatting involved. Whether you use fdisk to create a partition or XP's installer, it doesn't have anything to do with formatting. http://linux.die.net/man/8/fdi... - Adnan
