Sony's marketplace/online network offering has long been free.. I wonder what the PS3 fanboys (by which, I mean the rabid Xbox-haters, rather than the gaming-lovers) will make of this?

Not sure what type of fanboy am I but the PSN network is not where near as good as the Xbox Live. Its' over complicated and badly organised. The whole thing needs re-doing. If that's what you get for the Premium pack then I'm interested but if it's just the same service but with extra I'm not sold. As for the console it's great, just needs more games. Xbox still wins and I doubt things will really change until perhaps the next gen Xbox 720/PS4 consoles come out in about 5 years time.

I really don't see what is appealing about this.

The potential is there but they need to scrap PSN as it is and make it more console-like and user-friendly (e.g. I don't need to select to install anything I download, it should do all that automatically + I want to find demos easily not have to go to a "store" and browse down an endless list of videos, add-ons, themes, demos and everything else - demos should be under "Demos").
