Louis, you look like you're a twenty-some year old college student in the first picture versus an adult. - Jimminy
No he does, but I think it's also time you get some sl... Sleep is a waste of time for the unproductive. I don't think you've been unproductive lately get some sleep. - Jimminy

And Jimminy, one benefit of ignoring jetlag and working both time zones... Four meals! It's dinner time again! - Louis Gray
The one on the left looks like Louis "poor college student" Gray and the right is the CEO of blah-blah company. - imabonehead
Louis, I just ate my 4th meal without jetlag or working in two time zones, benefit of not sleeping more than 4 hours a day. - Jimminy

Boom-Boom-Wow - Cheyenne
We all try to show our best side to the outside world, particularly when it's with regard to business. But is it really disingenuous to show a happy face any more than it would be to show a scowl? Neither represents you or the collective us 100% of the time. Does this mean we need a chart with all our moods on it to greet potential clients? :) I do like the arched brow. hehe - Sheryl
Sorry to say this, Louis, but I will attempt to run away if I see someone coming to me bearing that smile you have on the second photo. I'd be like, "Darnit, here's another salesman wanting to pressure me into buying some thingamajig again..." No offense, Louis. But even for marketing, I really think you can do without the oh-so-friendly smile :-) - Pandu ● IT Optimizer from fftogo

Just one question, Josh: are you by chance spinning on 9 different Aeron chairs that were a steal after the first dot-com bubble burst? The future of the internets: you're looking at it =) - Micah Wittman
Bingo! - Josh Haley
could anybody describe how to create such a picture? thx - Arnaud Fischer
Arnaud, see http://friendfeed.com/mokarga... for tips. And Josh correct me if I'm wrong, he uploaded to Twitpic the same animated GIF 9 times, then created a friendfeed post and attached all 9 images by URL (instead of choosing images from his hard drive). Images coming from twitpic, soup.io, etc will animate, but photos hosted by friendfeed itself won't. - Micah Wittman
Hahaha, nice :) - Simon Wicks

Did not sleep well with all the spinning. :p - Josh Haley from iPhone
It's infinitely more amusing when they don't all load at the same time. Spinning chaos!!! - CAJ, somewhere else
Why the friendfeed limitation on animated .gifs? It seems arbitrary and odd to me. I could see wanting to limit filesize (animated .gifs can get large) but you can upload huge .jpgs without any trouble. - veo
Mesmerizing like a lava lamp. Hey! You are a 'Lame-o Lamp'! And you might want to call the folks in the makeup department and get that forehead de-sheened. Remember, your forehead is an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle - And you don't want to blind the crew on their final approach, do you? :-) - Morgan Haley

OMG! That should be the next installment at some fluecy deucy art museum!!! AWESOME. :) It's like whack-a-mole... I keep trying to figure out which one will show your face next and for some reason I'm always wrong. - Lindsay
Thanks, Lindsay! :) I think that's the first time someone described wanting to systematically hit me on the head repeatedly, yet have it come off as a compliment. I would love to take credit like I was Andy Warhol or something, but alas I was just tired and felt like doing something silly. :p - Josh Haley from iPhone
yep, what Lindsay said. That was one of the first bona-fide instances I've seen of using Friendfeed as a medium for net art. You could get in the Whitney & stuff. GOOD JOB - Kamilah Gill
LOL! I actually didn't mean it the way it came out (the hitting you on the head part, the compliment part is ok ;)). But I'm in tears laughing when I read your reply. Whack-a-mole always frustrated the heck out of me... I did a lot more staring than hitting when I tried to play. It was mesmerizing. - Lindsay

I voted for Pres. O so don't misunderstand; I think SNL had it right. He received the Nobel for not being George W. Bush. - Tim Albright
@Tim Albright - Sadly I think that is true. I hold out a small hope that it is because they see potential for change with the new administration but so far Pres. Obama hasn't followed his change of tone with action - Ryan Tiffany
Many people fail to see the courage and depth that it takes to not act in a situation; and how here it has been even more profound, by 10 fold, when weighed against the decision to wage a phony, greedy, ignorant war, killing thousands of innocent people. So fuck yeah & congratulations to you on your brilliance in deciding not act in a stupid way seen for the oh last 8 years or so. - sofarsoShawn

Doesn't this put your Aussie Man Card in jeopardy? All the Aussie blokes we see in movies and on TV do not get chased up anything, unless it's by at least a 60-foot long Croc :) Did the Koala look like a 60 foot croc when you first spotted him? - Patrick Jordan

It was Bruce. He is the dominant male in our area. I got out of the car and I heard some rustling from the trees. When I started to walk up the path, I saw him climb down and start walking towards me. He grunted very aggressively, something I don't want to stick around for so I bolted. Live now: This Week in Tech with David Pogue, John C. Dvorak, John Graham-Cumming, and Patrick Beja. http://live.twit.tv. Discuss here....
tiny-twit.jpg
Great discusion with David Pogue. Leo nailed that there is the difficulty with balancing access with the self censorship of questions. - JR Holmes
Yep, a fluffy interview, or no interview at all. I say fluffy :D - Mark
Old journalist grad here. I want to have a bit more depth on the interview, but it is a difficult balance to strike. - JR Holmes
David Pogue neatly noted that the reason for the sensitivity regarding Apple is because of the near-religious war between fans of Apple and Microsoft. Other companies (Google, Yahoo, etc.) don't provoke that fervor. - JR Holmes
Now, presuming that John Dvorak was listening to this, how will he respond to David's defense. I hope that he will admit the attack and note that it became perhaps over stated as it escalated. - JR Holmes
LOL - nanochrome
John prepares to insult the French again. - JR Holmes
John posts many informational and newsworthy tweets - earl wallace from twhirl
Edwards AF Base? - shelter watch
Nasa is @ Edwards AF Base. - shelter watch
Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, CA? for Geek Atlas - shelter watch
Great opinion from Patrick Beja that Paris IS France. Just like New Yorkers think that the city IS the best of America. The rest of the country disagrees... - JR Holmes
Leo: Don't forget to give John Dvorak his Logitech 9000 camera!! - Emery Walker
For the US, shouldn't the Library of Congress be making the digital version available? Or, for new copyright items, make it a condition of registration of the copyright. The work would remain "locked away" until the copyright expires. - JR Holmes
servis is down on twit tv now and on the aol provider stick cam is working fantastic hi from georgia - daveccorey
And here comes the discussion of the "long tail". Well worth remembering for items that aren't expensive to store. - JR Holmes
I thought that Norway has the best health care system. - shelter watch
Petoria has the best healthcare - Mark
Edwards AF Base blocks Youtube. - shelter watch
The annoying part of Canadian ISPs is that in 2004-2005, they went to court, against the CRIA ((RIAA north)) to defend file-sharers. Now that there's a saturation (~90%) of highspeed access... well now it's time to say poor me because "our network can't take it" -- even though CEO of Shaw said: "We have a very big pipe that is great for things like peer-to-peer and Bit Torrent. People love our network because it is so fast for those things." - Phopo Jijo
ATT in United States had a class action lawsuit about not letting customers not allowing them get DSL without having a telephone line in your house, the people won the suit so they now offer DSL without having a telephone line but it more money, think that wrong. - Emery Walker
Leo - Censorship should be of course "self regulated". - Paul Meyers

Yeah David Pogu is great guy. That interview is great - RamirezG
The Woodford Reserve reference is great! I live within 15 minute of both the Woodford Reserve distillery and Bourbon County and I listen to TWIT.tv shows daily. - Alex Cutadean
Great Episode, as usual. With respect to Google's alleged purchase of Brightcove, is there a possibility it may be influenced by the technology in Brightcove's streaming Media Player? To save a video media file delivered via a Brightcove hosted repository, in the same manner as you would from YouTube borders on "not possible". Certainly doesn't seem possible with my usual arsenal of... more... - Damien Wessling
I'd say better than usual episode. The best episodes are always the international ones! Thanks! Simon, London - Simon Taylor
Glad David Pogue got the chance to rebut. As Leo noted when it was done to him by Michael Arrington, attacking a tech reviewer's credibility that way can be very damaging. A couple of quick notes: Pogue actually does reveal a list of what gadgets he uses on his blog each year, and as of 2008, does not use an iPhone... more... - Stephen Jendraszak
David should in the future acknowledge a conflict of interest where it exists. He hasn't been doing that b4 and that's plain wrong - S.D.Allen from IM
Fair enough. I mostly just think it's really odd that Leo let the panelists last week tear into David that way (and joined in), when he (rightly) slammed Mike Arrington for questioning his own credibility, and had no problem just now with actually plugging Andy's book on MBW! Now, I have no problem with Andy being a columnist and writing a book, but if Leo has a problem with David,... more... - Stephen Jendraszak
I found the entire conversation about Assistive Technology devices (speech), Proloquo2go, and other speech generating devices way too short!!!! I'm a special education teacher and for years we have fought to get devices for students to communicate but are hampered by Medicaid laws refusing to let them get cheaper devices. The $8000 are great for some students, but they are stigmatizing... more... - Patrick Black
I enjoyed your inteview w/ Pogue. The problem with his reviews is that they sound like they could come straight from Apple's marketing department. Pogue counters that he has given bad reviews to a few Apple products. Here are some specific examples of how his bias manifests itself. Snow Leopard: The product breaks many applications that professionals use on their Mac, yet Pogue recommends the upgrade as a 'no brainer'. That just makes no sense at all. - John Bruder
Another example is his review of the Blackberry Storm. In it, David mentions that it's a world phone, but then goes on to criticize the outrageous prices Verizon charges for roaming. Well, I checked and AT&T charges are about the same, but he never mentions the high price of international roaming in his glowing iPhone review. These are just a few subtle ways that make David's review of Apple's products sound great, and their competitors, less so. - John Bruder

Google needs to sync up sidewiki and Google Reader comments ASAP if they want to get traction as a central converation hub. - Ken Sheppardson
I aspire to say something important enough that people talk about it somewhere other than comments on my blog post. - Ken Sheppardson
Doesn't sidewiki work pretty much like Diigo? With Diigo, in addtion to highliting excerpts on pages it allows one to add post-it like notes. - lelapin
Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing as diigo, lelapin. - Ken Sheppardson
When has Google ever asked our permission to launch a service? - Ken Sheppardson
Launching a service is different than pushing it into an existing product that millions of people already have installed. - Ghworg
You don't have to use it. - Ken Sheppardson
Whether I use it or not, as a blog owner it affects me. - Ghworg
Sure it does. So does Diigo. So does FriendFeed. There are conversations happening all over the place. You can't control them. It's naive to think you can, and futile to try. - Ken Sheppardson
Google is tea-bagging sites with SideWiki, and browsers with Google Frame - Gabe
Sidewiki shows up only for those folks who explicitly chosen to use it. They turn it on. It's like some sort of app they install on their system. It's not as if Google imposing this on everyone who visits your site. - Ken Sheppardson
SideWiki is working fine for me :) I have left comments on live.twit.tv as well as leoville.com Check it out and see if it's working now Leo :D - Dylan Combs
IE causes problems for developers that other browser don't - John Wright
But if you are in that corporate situation, you probably can't access those sites - Johnny Worthington
I don't know about IE 7 and IE 8 as much but IE 6 is well known to be terrible... I think what the Wave team did is great - John Wright
I made this site as kind of a joke kind of serious ... http://deathtoie6.com , it has been popular and controversial - John Wright
However, this speaks to the problems that sites had with framing of sites with advertising by others some years ago. Google will be reaping benefit (advertising) from the content on some else's site. That was considered not desirable before and should be now. While others can comment about you on their own site, framing your site is getting unearned benefit from your work. - JR Holmes
Great point from Gina on the Chrome Frame: IE 6 is still the most used browser and standard in many businesses. Not so sneaky way to help Google Wave get early traction as a messaging tool coordinated with Google Apps in the enterprise. - Alex Howard
Johnny: I understand the corporate environment issue... hopefully the Chrome frame can get into those corporate computer environments - John Wright
I think google wave will eventually take over email. Who would choose email over realtime conversation with e-mail as an added feature when it's needed? - Dylan Combs

Will Wave take any steam away from Twitter? - Dave Yankowiak
Can you use GoogleWave confidentially within a business? I'd love to be able to use it to manage teams and projects - KQT
@Ghworg you can disable that feature - Dylan Combs

The essence of Twitter is the broadcast of comments. With Wave, it keeps the conversation within the group. - JR Holmes
Google told me I'd be getting Wave credentials in a few days. That was two months ago :-/ - Ken Sheppardson
KQT: yes I believe they said you can host your own wave server like an email server... and it can be within your own intranet also - John Wright

John Wright - I don't think it's worth talking about, but it's a little gratuitous. They're trying to gain some credibility and get their brand awareness past their search engine. I suppose it's understandable, but it feels like pandering to me. - KQT
Yahoo owns a lot of valuable internet properties, but they really aren't doing the best with what they have. They don't seem to have a focused vision, or they haven't in the past. It seems like I've seen the start all kinds of sites/apps/products some that compete with each other. Then they will cancel some. Seems like poor management/leadership, other than that Yahoo isn't bad. - John Wright
@KQT Yeah they're definitely trying to increase "mindshare" with it but I mean they own it and it's such a small change. It's not a feature change, it really doesn't affect the value of the service. I don't see why anyone made an uproar but that's just me :) - John Wright
Does anyone else worry about how much Google is seaping into every facet of our digital lives? I love Google, but I have a recurring nightmare that Google uses all the information they have about us for evil someday. - KQT

@KQT wow, I thought about it before and I didn't see Google doing wrong... but yeah... what if!! ... they turn to the darkside ??? :( - John Wright
It'd make for a great movie... Of course, only if Tom Cruise starred in it. lol - KQT
How dare Google allow people to attach comments to places. Those comments should be left in those places. Like, on the wall or something. Maybe with a spray can. Fragmentation!! Fragmentation!! - Ken Sheppardson
Next thing you know, Google will be serving ads to people when you're viewing peoples' comments about the places you're visiting. - Ken Sheppardson
Google Places may get spammed easily. How would businesses cope with bad feedback? I don't think any business has 100% customer satisfaction rate. - Krishna
Why doesn't Jeff object to this for the same reasons he objects to Sidewiki? - Ken Sheppardson
That's a great idea re: checking in when you leave vs arrive. - KQT
@Krishna that's the big thing all this social media will affect. Never before could you find so many "natural" reviews and info about a company or place. It's going to be interesting how this will change things - John Wright

Guys, how's Google Exchange battery wise? - Michel
Michel: Google had this to say... "While this type of speed is pretty awesome, push connections tend to use more power than fetching at intervals, so don’t be surprised if your battery life isn’t quite what it used to be. We’ve done a lot of work to optimize power usage, but if you prefer to save battery life, you can always turn off push in your phone’s settings and fetch mail every 30 or 60 minutes instead." - Jason Hansen
@Jason. Ok thanks. I see that it does come at a disadvantage. I tried it out, but since I couldn't send from multiple emails, I scrapped it. I dunno if I'm doing something wrong. I'll try it out again. - Michel

Yes indeed, excellent show. You should just change the theme music. Sounds like a fantasy book. :P - Michel
I love the theme music! Classical music makes you smarter, right? - Laura Norvig
Are you guys going to release the video on all platforms (miro, itunes, etc.)? Or are you going to just release on Mediafly? - tytycoon
I think he said that they would eventually be able to post them at podcasts in iTunes and as videos on YouTube. - Michel
Leo: re user participation in iDents - BBC three does it over here quite well? - Phill Price
Android is under Apache 2.0 and GPL license. And Apache 2.0 as the BSD license allows to publish closed source derived from open source. So it's a good idea not to talk "Open Source" but to look at the license in any single case. This example btw shows that the GPL is the only true open source license. ;) - Cl Attr
But if they are going to go with Mediafly, they might opt-out like what happened with Stickham. - Michel
Thanks for the info, Michel - tytycoon

Switching browsers is a big deal for many people (change is bad), but installing the latest Flash plugin so that you can play games, watch videos, etc is normal. This is why the "Chrome Frame" plugin is a great idea. Now they need to add some "must have" features to HTML5.
Absolutely... I hope they'll offer it in .cab form as well so it'll be a simple click-to-deploy solution. - Matt Mastracci
A brilliant strategy... MSFT left with just the frame. - τorƍue

Chrome 3 still has drawbacks..no roboform support and xmarks support. Also, flash does not work on a number of sits. Firefox kept freezing(ver 3.0013 to 3.53) so I tried Flock and it uses all my old extensions and is fast. - earl wallace from twhirl
Chrome frame will just tick people off: "you need a plugin to view this site" ... and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website? - Joel Bennett
I like digg's strategy of displaying a warning of possible funkyness to users visiting the site with IE6. Wouldn't [click here to remove funkyness] do the trick for most people? - Bill Strathearn
It looks like Wave refused to be slowed down by older browsers and requires the use of Chrome-frame for any interaction with the app: http://googlewavedev.blogspot.com/2009... - Bill Strathearn
"and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website" No, using it for plain old websites would be annoying, but there are uses -- like Canvas animations -- to which there is no good plugin-less alternative. So then it becomes the choice between different plugins. (Of course Flash is more widely distributed at the moment, but some developers may prefer Canvas + JavaScript.) - Philipp Lenssen
Are there any good uses for Canvas animations? Or any really good uses for Canvas at all? I'm at a loss for situations where SVG wouldn't be better. - Gabe
my flash will not update! - Lizajane

We have decided to start IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) in January. Phil really wants to make it through the end of the year at work before we start. We will be trying unmedicated, but may move on to hormones later in the year. We will probably give it a year before moving onto IVF or adoption.
It is basically the baster method. One may or may not also be on fertility medication to increase chances but we are trying to go as "natural" as can be in our situation. I think that success rates are something like 20%. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Do you know what the cause of your infertility is? - Lindsey is Fierce!
Basically at this point they don't know if I can get pregnant or carry, the "test" for that is to actually get pregnant. Or not. It's like voodoo magics. - Andrizzle Gizzle
thank yoooou - Andrizzle Gizzle
Good luck, Andrea. We and some of our friends have been through periods of infertility. (and the lack of understanding from family and friends). Sending good thoughts your way. - ha3rvey, not a sweetheart
Lindsey - more bluntly, I'm shooting blanks so that isn't helping the situation either. There's no concrete evidence that Andrea can't get pregnant. - Phil G
ha ha I was specifically trying to avoid saying that because it seems blame-y. - Andrizzle Gizzle
I'm not doing it deliberately, so I can't be blamed, right? It's just a thing. Or a nothing. Whatever. :P - Phil G
I don't know.. are you doing it deliberately? Because that is rude as hell. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Good luck to you both. Best advice I have heard from a few who have gone this route...don't stress over it! :) - JA Castillo
That's weird, I have never heard someone with infertility say don't stress about it, they usually know it is a pretty stressful situation, one cannot even help being stressed about it, especially when on hormonal treatments. - Andrizzle Gizzle
That's the point they were making. It is stressful and tiring...just do your best to not overburden yourself with it all. :) - JA Castillo
*snort* ya'll are crazy - Lindsey is Fierce!
Been there and done that. It can rather suck the fun out of things temporarily, but hey we ended up with twins, so watch out it may work too well. :) - Eoghann Irving
It can be one of the most stressful things in the world. Saying not to stress is like saying you are going to get pregnant simply by relaxing and going on vacation. - Louis Gray
I love y'all. Good luck. - Derrick
If we had twins, we could always sell one on the black market to earn back some of the money spent on fertility treatments. If we had triplets we could even come out of this thing with a profit. - Andrizzle Gizzle

Awww, you just reminded me that the mantis egg sacs I bought never gave me any mantis. - Admiral Anika
Cool. How big was it? - Rodfather
Not that big, this one. Maybe 5 or 6 inches long. It was really skinny and looked kinda young. If I had had a bag on me I would have scooped it up for the backyard... it was soo cool. Very chillin. - Adrian

I hear you my Ffriend. But sometimes it's good to have a lull in the flow. And when the lull is done with us, and the alumni come back for a joyous homecoming, we are all better Ffriends and better people from the experience. - Morgan Haley
