I did that, but I was heading vertical, school had a vaulted ceiling and I went running, stepped on a chair right were it dropped, on impact both shoes fell off, one hit a guy in the face.

If I weren't afraid of going right through the wall, I'd probably still try that. I know I would have done that (and did similar things quite often) when I was much younger.

We all try to show our best side to the outside world, particularly when it's with regard to business. But is it really disingenuous to show a happy face any more than it would be to show a scowl? Neither represents you or the collective us 100% of the time. Does this mean we need a chart with all our moods on it to greet potential clients? :) I do like the arched brow. hehe

Sorry to say this, Louis, but I will attempt to run away if I see someone coming to me bearing that smile you have on the second photo. I'd be like, "Darnit, here's another salesman wanting to pressure me into buying some thingamajig again..." No offense, Louis. But even for marketing, I really think you can do without the oh-so-friendly smile :-)

interesting. I've tried a few times to get animated images to work on FF without success.. I guess piping it through twitpic might be the answer!
- veo
veo, yeah Twitpic, RSS (MediaRSS), Delicious, Tumblr all seem to work. There are more than that but those come to mind.
- Josh Haley
Just one question, Josh: are you by chance spinning on 9 different Aeron chairs that were a steal after the first dot-com bubble burst? The future of the internets: you're looking at it =)
- Micah Wittman
could anybody describe how to create such a picture? thx
- Arnaud Fischer
Arnaud, see http://friendfeed.com/mokarga... for tips. And Josh correct me if I'm wrong, he uploaded to Twitpic the same animated GIF 9 times, then created a friendfeed post and attached all 9 images by URL (instead of choosing images from his hard drive). Images coming from twitpic, soup.io, etc will animate, but photos hosted by friendfeed itself won't.
- Micah Wittman
Did not sleep well with all the spinning. :p

It's infinitely more amusing when they don't all load at the same time. Spinning chaos!!!
- CAJ, somewhere else
Why the friendfeed limitation on animated .gifs? It seems arbitrary and odd to me. I could see wanting to limit filesize (animated .gifs can get large) but you can upload huge .jpgs without any trouble.

Mesmerizing like a lava lamp. Hey! You are a 'Lame-o Lamp'! And you might want to call the folks in the makeup department and get that forehead de-sheened. Thanks, Lindsay! :) I think that's the first time someone described wanting to systematically hit me on the head repeatedly, yet have it come off as a compliment. I would love to take credit like I was Andy Warhol or something, but alas I was just tired and felt like doing something silly. :p

LOL! I actually didn't mean it the way it came out (the hitting you on the head part, the compliment part is ok ;)). But I'm in tears laughing when I read your reply. Whack-a-mole always frustrated the heck out of me... I did a lot more staring than hitting when I tried to play. It was mesmerizing.

you wait - the scary part of this comes when one of these ffoodoo heads stops turning, starts grimmacing and talking to you ..... have you seen one of these heads actually get up off the chair and curse the world??? ... the seeming dissynchronicity, the haphazard discord with which these dollheads turn might drive you ...nuts

The annoying part of Canadian ISPs is that in 2004-2005, they went to court, against the CRIA ((RIAA north)) to defend file-sharers. Now that there's a saturation (~90%) of highspeed access... well now it's time to say poor me because "our network can't take it" -- even though CEO of Shaw said: "We have a very big pipe that is great for things like peer-to-peer and Bit Torrent. Glad David Pogue got the chance to rebut. As Leo noted when it was done to him by Michael Arrington, attacking a tech reviewer's credibility that way can be very damaging. I enjoyed your inteview w/ Pogue. The problem with his reviews is that they sound like they could come straight from Apple's marketing department. Pogue counters that he has given bad reviews to a few Apple products. Here are some specific examples of how his bias manifests itself. Snow Leopard: The product breaks many applications that professionals use on their Mac, yet Pogue recommends the upgrade as a 'no brainer'. That just makes no sense at all.
- John Bruder
Another example is his review of the Blackberry Storm. In it, David mentions that it's a world phone, but then goes on to criticize the outrageous prices Verizon charges for roaming. Well, I checked and AT&T charges are about the same, but he never mentions the high price of international roaming in his glowing iPhone review. These are just a few subtle ways that make David's review of Apple's products sound great, and their competitors, less so.
- John Bruder

However, this speaks to the problems that sites had with framing of sites with advertising by others some years ago. Google will be reaping benefit (advertising) from the content on some else's site. That was considered not desirable before and should be now. While others can comment about you on their own site, framing your site is getting unearned benefit from your work.
- JR Holmes
Great point from Gina on the Chrome Frame: IE 6 is still the most used browser and standard in many businesses. Not so sneaky way to help Google Wave get early traction as a messaging tool coordinated with Google Apps in the enterprise.

@KQT Yeah they're definitely trying to increase "mindshare" with it but I mean they own it and it's such a small change. It's not a feature change, it really doesn't affect the value of the service. I don't see why anyone made an uproar but that's just me :)

Michel: Google had this to say... "While this type of speed is pretty awesome, push connections tend to use more power than fetching at intervals, so don’t be surprised if your battery life isn’t quite what it used to be. We’ve done a lot of work to optimize power usage, but if you prefer to save battery life, you can always turn off push in your phone’s settings and fetch mail every 30 or 60 minutes instead."

Android is under Apache 2.0 and GPL license. And Apache 2.0 as the BSD license allows to publish closed source derived from open source. So it's a good idea not to talk "Open Source" but to look at the license in any single case. This example btw shows that the GPL is the only true open source license. ;)
- Cl Attr
But if they are going to go with Mediafly, they might opt-out like what happened with Stickham.

Switching browsers is a big deal for many people (change is bad), but installing the latest Flash plugin so that you can play games, watch videos, etc is normal. This is why the "Chrome Frame" plugin is a great idea. Now they need to add some "must have" features to HTML5.
This is fantastic news for developers and really opens up the potential to innovate.
- Daniel Shaw
Chrome 3 still has drawbacks..no roboform support and xmarks support. Also, flash does not work on a number of sits. Firefox kept freezing(ver 3.0013 to 3.53) so I tried Flock and it uses all my old extensions and is fast.
- earl wallace
from twhirl
Chrome frame will just tick people off: "you need a plugin to view this site" ... and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website?
- Joel Bennett
I like digg's strategy of displaying a warning of possible funkyness to users visiting the site with IE6. Wouldn't [click here to remove funkyness] do the trick for most people?
- Bill Strathearn
"and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website" No, using it for plain old websites would be annoying, but there are uses -- like Canvas animations -- to which there is no good plugin-less alternative. So then it becomes the choice between different plugins. (Of course Flash is more widely distributed at the moment, but some developers may prefer Canvas + JavaScript.)
- Philipp Lenssen
Are there any good uses for Canvas animations? Or any really good uses for Canvas at all? I'm at a loss for situations where SVG wouldn't be better.
- Gabe
We have decided to start IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) in January. Phil really wants to make it through the end of the year at work before we start. We will be trying unmedicated, but may move on to hormones later in the year. We will probably give it a year before moving onto IVF or adoption.
It is basically the baster method. One may or may not also be on fertility medication to increase chances but we are trying to go as "natural" as can be in our situation. I think that success rates are something like 20%.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Basically at this point they don't know if I can get pregnant or carry, the "test" for that is to actually get pregnant. Or not. It's like voodoo magics.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Good luck, Andrea. We and some of our friends have been through periods of infertility. (and the lack of understanding from family and friends). Sending good thoughts your way.
- ha3rvey, not a sweetheart
Lindsey - more bluntly, I'm shooting blanks so that isn't helping the situation either. There's no concrete evidence that Andrea can't get pregnant.
- Phil G
ha ha I was specifically trying to avoid saying that because it seems blame-y.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
I'm not doing it deliberately, so I can't be blamed, right? It's just a thing. Or a nothing. Whatever. :P
- Phil G
I don't know.. are you doing it deliberately? Because that is rude as hell.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Good luck to you both. Best advice I have heard from a few who have gone this route...don't stress over it! :)
- JA Castillo
That's weird, I have never heard someone with infertility say don't stress about it, they usually know it is a pretty stressful situation, one cannot even help being stressed about it, especially when on hormonal treatments.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
That's the point they were making. It is stressful and tiring...just do your best to not overburden yourself with it all. :)
- JA Castillo
Been there and done that. It can rather suck the fun out of things temporarily, but hey we ended up with twins, so watch out it may work too well. :)
- Eoghann Irving
It can be one of the most stressful things in the world. Saying not to stress is like saying you are going to get pregnant simply by relaxing and going on vacation.
- Louis Gray
If we had twins, we could always sell one on the black market to earn back some of the money spent on fertility treatments. If we had triplets we could even come out of this thing with a profit.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
With all the effort you are putting into this it can already be said you will be fantastic parents.

Pea maybe you can buy one of Louis' babbies, they are used. You need to pay premium for a new babby, but unfortunately they lose their value once you drive them off the lot.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Leasing also available on good credit.

"once you drive them off the lot" Thanks, Andrea... it has been a while since soda came out of my nose.

Baby values significantly depreciate past the age of 1 year. Depending on the day I might consider paying for someone to take monster #1 or monster #2 off my hands. ;)
- Eoghann Irving
Sending all good thoughts your way, Andrea. My sis went through this recently and all turned out for the best. And now I can't get "drive the baby off the lot" out of my head! :D
- Ayşe E.
If I were a better artist I would try to illustrate someone driving a baby shaped car off the lot. :D
- Andrizzle Gizzle
I am so excited about this, I know it is going to be awesome. Hugs for you both! I love you guys! Also, I better hurry up and visit before I have to change diapers, huh?? :)
- Sumotuwe
Dude, that's not a grasshopper, that's a praying mantis! But these pics are AWESOME! Oh and I'm never laying on the grass in that park. (I feel like I should explain: Yesterday when he was telling me about this, he said it was a grasshopper. So, my comment isn't completely random.)
- Admiral Anika
Wow, I never saw those around when I was growing up in that 'hood.
- Spidra Webster
They are lovely creatures. Nurseries sell them for pest control in your garden since they eat those nasty grasshoppers and other unwanted guests.
- Adrian
Not that big, this one. Maybe 5 or 6 inches long. It was really skinny and looked kinda young. If I had had a bag on me I would have scooped it up for the backyard... it was soo cool. Very chillin.
- Adrian
You would have fed it to the lizard, I just know it.
- Admiral Anika
I would pay to see that fight... like something out of District 9.
- Adrian
That sounds pretty big to me. The one I saw recently was small. 2 inches or so.
- Rodfather
A 2 inch one would be pretty small, I think, but I'm no expert. Check out that photo earlier in the thread where one is eating the grasshopper. :)
- Adrian
Thank you Xea. I sort of landed next to it though. I was laying on the grass watching the kids run around, when I turned over to lie on my belly and found myself face-to-face with... that. So I did what I always do and stuck my Pannie FZ28 in its face and commanded it to say cheese!

The only movement I see in FriendFeed right now is imported from other services. The sense of community is slipping away right in front of our eyes.

Missing the peeps, that's all Morgan

I just don't see it. My FF moves just as fast as ever with major conversations.
- Rachel Lea Fox
I hear you my Ffriend. But sometimes it's good to have a lull in the flow. It washes away the chaff and provides lot's of 'dead air' time, which may inspire/drive to insanity those that were not-so-chatty before. A fresh class of 'posters' with different ways of thinking and stinking. And when the lull is done with us, and the alumni come back for a joyous homecoming, we are all better Ffriends and better people from the experience.
- Morgan Haley
I'm still not seeing this supposed slowdown either. There are even more threads I can't keep up with, all the same people I've seen in my feed are there along with a ton of new people. The only slowdown I see are from the people who have started school or new jobs recently.
- Admiral Anika
I'm probably seeing a backlash of my own social inactivity. Was very much disconnected for like a month, due to work. Who knows the reason, just meant to express it.
- Jorge Escobar
In fact, you see more. The bottom of my page has a comment from 23 minutes ago; for yours it's only 8 minutes ago: http://friendfeed.com/search... I think you're just taking a dim view of things.
- Bruce Lewis
It's quiet in here... too quiet. {cue ominous music}
- Andrew C
There is also a spreading out effect. But some posts still get lots of engagement. My baby one got more than 500 likes since Saturday night so someone is still hanging out here!
- Robert Scoble
@Robert true... I was one of them. Congrats again!
- Jorge Escobar
I have stopped listening to some big inside baseball names and now just focus on the more personal interactions. While my feed is slower in that sense, it's 5x more rich. It's funny what happens when you stop focusing on what is expected to be paid attention to and focus on that which you truely care about.

The one thing I have noticed is that @scobelizer's stuff gets far fewer comments and discussion now that he only posts from Twitter. I know personally I read a fraction of the stuff of his that I used to.

Yammer won. So wouldn't it be easy to guess that Twitter would previously have won?
- Louis Gray
but Yammer came after Twitter - paving the way for understanding what this new kind of micro blogging was all about. Ev asked a related question and doesn't think Twitter could have won: http://friendfeed.com/evhead...

I think rather than asking about the demo, I'd wonder what can TC do to get more revolutionary, instead of evolutionary, companies to apply/make it through the pipeline?
