I'd just like to personally say thank you to all of you for your support with Flickchart. It's been incredibly exciting and rewarding to see so many of you enjoying it and sharing here on FriendFeed. It really means a lot to us, and we appreciate you and all the help you've given us through your comments, suggestions, and opinions. Thank you.
my son and I played it on the way home on the train tonight - ever selection we made was the same which is a little freaky as a dad :)
- mike "glemak" dunn
Thank you for such a great service!
- Kevin Whalen
@jeremy lol dammit you mean I squatted on tunechart.com for nothing? (kidding of course I have no connection to Miami) hellz no! i would have been shocked if you did stop there! in fact I'm heading to GoDaddy right now to grab Colorchart.com, Countrychart.com, universechart.com, shampoochart.com, carbonatedbeveragechart.com and cheesechart.com so I can head you guys off at the pass and sell you the domain names for a quick buck ; p Seriously though - VERY much looking forward to the tune version!
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Don't forget videogamechart.com and boardgamechart.com and tvchart.com and bookchart and fastfoodrestaurantchart.com and cookiechart.com and sitechart.com....the possibilities are ENDLESS. The music one should be next, though, definitely. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Music - is definitely next... others are planned.
- Nathan Chase
Nathan, with these charts you are really spoiling us.
- Andrew Roche
That's probably not what some FriendFeed users will be saying once we launch them all with FF integration.
- Jeremy Thompson
No need for carbonatedbeveragechart.com Marco . . . Coke and Cherry Coke are the only things worth drinking :P
- Lindsey is Fierce!
You're welcome, thank you for the service. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Yeah, thanks a bunch. The service has been really sweet and very addicting. Kudos.
- Jon, the Beartato of FF
Wow, I just noticed I can moderate comments to this thread. How odd! Looks like I could even delete it.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
that is strange Daniel - perhaps a bug of DM'ing large groups of people?
- Flickchart
Maybe "delete" just means "remove me from this list". I'll try it on some other less awesome thread.

No, thank YOU! I have spent hours on the site and have over a thousand rankings already. It's a fun site! I can't wait to see the music one!!!

Thanks Nathan & Jeremy. Flickchart is a great site & the FF integration is especially cool !
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Hello! I'd like to extend a request to see if you've used Flickchart lately. If not, were you just not interested enough to continue using it? Not enough features? If you have used Flickchart lately, what's kept you coming back? Would you have any advice for us to draw you back to the site on a regular basis? Any comments or suggestions are most welcome. Thanks in advance! Appreciate it!
- Nathan Chase
For me, I've visited it a few times in the past year (based on when people mention it or you mention there's an update). It's a fun distraction, but I'm not sure what would keep me visiting regularly. My favorite movies of all time don't change that often, and I'm not sure what I can do with that list once I have it other than point it out as an example of what Flickchart does (so, a...

Honestly, I haven't used it in a long time and it's for two reasons: I began to lose interest once the novelty wore off and I just haven't really had time. I think about it a lot and always think to myself, 'I should spend some time on Flickchart,' but then I see an inbox or feed reader with a ton of unread items, Audrey starts crawling all over me, etc. Plus, since I've been working again, I've not had time for much of anything like this.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I pop on fairly often, I guess - a few times a week. But I feel like I spend a lot of time trying to get new adds in place (especially since they all come in right at the middle, which is not too bad if they should be higher, I just rank them a bunch of times, but if they should be lower it's a major pain since it's really hard to move things DOWN on the list), and that feels more like...

I haven't, but then my love affair with movies has subsided greatly since I graduated film school. It's me, not you. ;)
- Derrick
Yeah, I haven't used it in a while. I just haven't been watching as many movies as I used to... for lack of time. However, if I got a question a day from Flickchart in my email, asking me if A was better than B, I might click on it. That's an idea for you...
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
from email
I've been watching more than ever, but I forget to go rank them sometimes (also the ranking individual movies on the three-at-a-time page is less fun - didn't I hear that you were working on a new way to do that?). Ooh, fanciful idea based on Ahsan's comment - integrate with the Netflix RSS feeds or something so when you return a movie Flickchart automatically pops it up to rank. :)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I'm never really at my computer when I use flickchart so I guess if I had any feedback (which I haven't thus far because the service has been great!) it would be to perhaps optimize the mobile site for android phones. For me it the site hangs a lot, and I can't actually access the charts on the top. But it's a small criticism as I can still choose what films I like with reckless abandon! :D
- Jon, the Beartato of FF
Joey, I hope so, but it's been broken for a month. For now, I'm using the bookmarklet if I really want to share an Amazon link (and looking for another aggregator)

I'm taking this opportunity to add all the really embarrassing stuff to my Wish List without anyone on FF knowing...
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Greg, I thought about that but I'd like it all from one place so if it gets fixed I don't want to re-add it. I'd just like to know if there is a plan to fix it or if I should give up.
- joey
I really miss seeing items that my friends share from Amazon.
- Greg GuitarBuster
"FriendFeed.com will continue to operate normally." - http://blog.friendfeed.com/2009... -- obviously Facebook has a different definition of "operate normally" than the rest of us, if they can leave a supported feed broken for so long!
- Scott of Two Countries
Sigh. I would just like to know if it will ever get fixed or not.

It is October16, 2009 and my favorite feed still does not work :(

- Lindsey is Fierce!
Whew. It isn't just me. Sure would be nice to have this fixed for Christmas. If they don't plan on fixing it, why is it still an option in the add/edit list?
- Becca
Joey, thanks for asking again. I was thinking the same. It's been 3 months now.
- Greg GuitarBuster
In my "my discussions" feed, this post comes up just below the multiple spinning heads of Josh Haley, and for one brief moment Josh and dancing girl were rotating in sync. It was the most exciting thing to have happened so far today.

"It was the most exciting thing to have happened so far today." <--LOL

er... "alternative" is a little vague. Surely she doesn't actually mean Facebook and Twitter. Those are sad excuses for alternatives, IMO.
- Jason Huebel
Maybe not great alternatives, but that's where the action people are. They're not on FriendFeed.

For the record, I'm using GReader with a Feedly front end for content and sharing with Mark and Twitter and Facebook for social interactions.

@Lindsey: Thomas Pynchon is an author of several works of fiction, including _The Crying of Lot 49_, _Gravity's Rainbow_, _Mason&Dixon_ and most recently, _Against the Day_. One of my favorite authors. He's also one of the most reclusive authors ever known.
- Bill Scherer
The thing I don't like about Twitter public lists is that there's no consent. Someone could add you to a "child molesters" list, for example: (p.s. blog post from this here: http://friendfeed.com/itafrom...)
Or a public "douche bags" list, or anything. Public categorization is dangerous in the hands of an individual; at least with aggregate (or crowd-sourced) categorization, the bad apples can be marginalized or removed. But when every list gets an equal voice, or someone popular decides to put you into a shit list, one individual's voice gets to be the loudest based purely on how extreme they are with their categorization. If I'm listed in 50 "technology person" lists, and 1 "fuckwit" list, guess which one stands out?
- Mark Trapp
Which is why I think there's a very good reason why Facebook, FriendFeed, and Google made list categorization private that Twitter completely missed.
- Mark Trapp
And personally, I resent being on "technology" and variant lists. That's like signing me up for spam that I can't opt out or protect myself from.
- Mark Trapp
Look for a big increase in @-reply-spam as this rolls out more widely :(
- LogEx
Makes me wonder what lists Scoble is on then.
- CW™
people are going to complain. Lawsuits will occur demanding that Twitter remove them from a list.
- CW™
You can see anyone's list memberships on their profile (another bonehead move): http://twitter.com/Scoblei... He's on mostly technology related lists. But all it takes is one person with a vendetta to use lists as a vehicle for libel or defamation.
- Mark Trapp
Mark, I think you're right. Someone could counter-argue that tweet "equality" has the same issue, but psychologically lists have more weight and cut by implication not expression which is more difficult for a victim to tackle. I've noticed for myself it even feels like a violation when I see a screencap of someone's own Friendfeed page which shows *their* Lists - just the description/name of the list has effect.
- Micah Wittman
I somehow made it on a tech blogging list. I don't think I ever wrote anything about tech blogging. Is there a free food Twitter list. Also, Mark, is Barton's dad on this mythical child molesters list?
- James Ferguson
Barton's dad is on my child molester list. And the state registry's list. The jig is up with him!
- Mark Trapp
I'm not sure it's Twitter's responsibility to prevent users from ding things that could get them sued for libel or defamation. Have some expectation of personal responsibility people.
- Kevin Fox
If you block a user, would that remove you from their lists? But I agree, you should be able to remove yourself (like untagging from a photo on Facebook)
- Stuart Miniman
Kevin: I agree that everyone ought to have personal responsibility, but there's absolutely nothing a person could do to protect themselves from a malicious use of lists other than to close out their account: I can't consent to the categorization, I can't remove myself from the categorization, and categorization is in no way dependent on my actions on Twitter (but rather, the actions of others). The fact that there's that in addition to the lists being attached to my profile page is nuts.
- Mark Trapp
There are a few basic steps Twitter could've taken, and should still take: don't attach lists to a person's profile and allow people to opt out of lists. More extremely, make list memberships opt-in or make all lists private.
- Mark Trapp
This is the problem with Twitter - it's too anonymous. It's the risk you take when you put yourself in such a public environment. If you're okay with that, fine - it's just the risk you take.
- Jesse Stay
That's a good point, Mark. Interesting discussion.
- joey
Yes, if you block a person who started a list it removes you from all the lists that person put you on.
- michael sean wright
I've said repeatedly, in both my blog post, here, and on Robert Scoble's feed, blocking is not the answer.
- Mark Trapp
One of the bigger problems I have with sites like Facebook is that I have no control over how others see my public profile (right now you'll prob see 16+ yr old girls asking you to contact them, surrounding my profile. I'm happily married, have 4 kids. Mark has a point. It's hard to maintain a personal brand on the web, and others that can classify you (wrongly) won't help. Then again Twitter is 90% bots so I don't think many will notice
- Alexander van Elsas
Mark: I don't understand. You say you can't remove yourself from a list, but you can by blocking the offender. You say that 'blocking isn't the answer' but it seems to be exactly that.
- Kevin Fox
Alexander: I'm on a roll tonight because I don't understand you either. You have pretty fine-grained control of what in your Facebook profile or feed is viewable to the public (or any other) scope, so you have tons of control over how others see your public profile. I don't see the 16+ year old girls asking me to contact them when I look at your profile. I see this: http://fury.com/tmp... What's the offensive part?
- Kevin Fox
Kevin, refresh the page a few times. and you will see other ads as well. The offensive part is that I have NO control over the right side of that page, yet it is directly related to my profile and therefore to my personal brand. This sucks on the web in general, but it sucks more on a site that is supposed to contain my dearest connections. I'm confusing everyone here it seems. I better stop talking now ;-)
- Alexander van Elsas
Kevin: let's say my friend decides he wants to put me in a "technology" or "owned-Barbies-when-he-was-5" list; my only recourse is to block someone I'd otherwise have no problem with because Twitter doesn't give me the ability to remove something from my profile otherwise. As I'm sure you've seen with FriendFeed and Facebook, blocking someone is considered a drastic and hostile action towards a person that isn't the same thing as opting out of a feature. And why aren't public lists opt-in anyway?
- Mark Trapp
Alexander: Are you sure that the ads on the right are directly related to your profile? I think they're more directly related to the viewer's profile than the profile he's viewing, and don't knw that they're related to the profile being viewed at all. And if you're worried about the ads on the page, then this is a problem you're going to experience all over the internet.
- Kevin Fox
Mark: Your arguments would go farther if you steered clear of the absolutes a bit. If this person is your friend enough that you don't want to block them, then presumably they're friend enough for you to ask them to take you off that list. 'Only recourse is to block my friend'? Pah. Also, public lists won't work if they're opt-in. Like Gwyneth Paltrow is going to sit around approving...
- Kevin Fox
Kevin, that'd be a good middle ground, although I'd imagine if lists were opt-in, they'd function much like how FriendFeed and Facebook groups work now or how WeFollow works: someone can't subscribe me to a group, but if I want to be associated with a group of people, I opt-in by subscribing or joining the group.
- Mark Trapp
It's a difference in viewpoint. I don't see them as groups because I don't see lists as a tool for fostering two-way communication. I see lists like Google Reader bundles. Pre-rolled subscription packs curated by a knowledgeable third-party.
- Kevin Fox
I think Twitter should add a "public list opt-out" feature. It wasn't obvious when lists first came out that people might not want to be on them, but after seeing this, it's impossible to know if people want to be on them or not. It could be a problem for those wanting to opt-out of lists because you can't necessarily DM everyone that puts you on a list (and you don't always want to block them, as Mark said).
- Matt Mastracci
You would just block them. Then you get removed from the list
- Lindsey is Fierce!
@Kevin. I am fully aware that ads are part of the eco system of the web. But in this particular context (A friend is looking for me on Facebook), I think placement of (sleezy) ads are a bad idea. It seems to reflect on my profile/brand/identity and it cannot be controlled by me. Facebook should be the place where friends connect, not the place where an old friend finds you surrounded by advertisement
- Alexander van Elsas
Alexander, I'm sorry the ads you get on Facebook are sleazy. I find the ads to be much better quality than those I see elsewhere on the web. Nevertheless, again with the absolutes. It's not like ads preclude Facebook from being the place where friends connect, and a right hand column hardly constitutes being 'surrounded by advertisement.'
- Kevin Fox
Man that's nuts, Facebook ads are among the shadiest on the respectable web. They're worse than AdSense ads, and AdSense ads are pretty bad.
- Paul Laroquod

I can tell when game reviewers are born in the early to mid 90's, because they whine about the lack of 3D shaders and the difficulty of a game. Pansies.
They should play Contra or R-Type, games that you had to suffer through to be worthy of them. Each level came at an expense of hair and sanity. Glorious. No endless saves, no infinite lives... no *gag* regenerating health.

I remember when games came printed on cardboard. And you had to keep all the pieces together with the box or you couldn't play it anymore.

How to get me to delete your email: "Hey girl! How's it going? It's been a long time! Hey, we were wondering if you could whip us up a quick website for [this event]. Of course, you're invited. You can have the discount of $500/family."
It's been 5 years. FIVE. I did a quick page for an event in '04 and pretty much stopped attending meetings after the event. I'm assuming they don't want to pay for it or else she's offered me entrance for free.
- Anika
Seriously. She even gave details as exactly what they wanted for the pages. This is a site that will easily be about 60 pages. She even gave me sample websites she liked, "I like the graphics here." or "I like the pop up box here." LOL
- Anika
Exactly. After reading through it and remembering what a PITA she was about the webPAGE I did AND the fact that she didn't offer to pay, I just sent it to spam.
- Anika
Yeah, I would ignore it. The other thing would be to send her an estimate, inflated a bit for annoyance factor. Then add that she can have the $500 former client discount.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
I had a one-time client call me recently, and ask for 'family' discount. We're not related. I said no.

Well, yes, I never actually say NO. I don't burn my bridges. I am tactful about how I refuse work that isn't worth my time and effort. Perhaps that sounds pompous to some, but I'm not going to take on a job that effectively means I'd get more flipping burgers. Joking? No, some people want to pay next to nothing for many hours work, even when they understand how much is involved.
- Ian May
Even 5 years ago, I wouldn't have called her a friend, so this is very presumptuous of her. I'm not a website maker. I *can*make a website, but it's not my thing. There are professionals for this. This is akin to asking the cashier at Taco Bell to cater a sit-down dinner for 300 people, serving only French delicacies.
- Anika
I *do* build websites (amongst other things). In this economy there are many people out there that want so much done for so little. They either can't really afford it, or they think that you must be starving so you'll cut your rates to the bone. Thing is, if you do that, you devalue yourself for when the economy does pick up. Flexibility is one thing, but working for free isn't. Also, bartering and trading can be a dangerous game to play too.

"Before Jessica Kraus put on a tight-fitting frock one recent evening, she wriggled into a $76 piece of flesh-toned underwear that extended from the bottom of her bra to mid-thigh. She felt confident and svelte as she left her apartment to meet friends for cocktails. Then a few hours later, the 25-year-old Boston event planner was faced with what she says was a "horrific situation." As she was embracing a man she had met that night, Ms. Kraus got to thinking about what lurked beneath her sleek exterior. "There's no graceful way of taking the thing off," she says. Sales of "shapewear"—undergarments for women who want a flawless, bulge-free silhouette while wearing tight clothes—have taken off since 2000. That's when Oprah Winfrey declared a brand called Spanx, with its bright packaging and product names like Bod-a-Bing! and Hide & Sleek, one of her "favorite things." The size of the market has tripled over that time, to $750 million in annual sales through the end of 2008, according to...

For Graphic Design class we have to come up with t-shirt designs. I am doing two, one for the assignment and one for extra credit. We also get more extra credit if we have them printed - the issue with that is that our design is basically supposed to fill the whole shirt. Does anyone know a company that would do a one-off of a shirt like that?
You could check local printers and see. They're easier to talk into those things. I used to have a bookmark for an online one. I'll have to see if I can find it when I get home

When "vi" came out ca. 1970, it was the first "visual" editor. Terminals didn't have arrow keys at the moment, so vi used regular keystrokes in "command mode" to control cursor movement. They selected the four keys H,J,K,L to do so. CTRL+H was backspace, and used to move left; plus, "H" was on the left side of the group. So "H" became Left, and L became right, which left J and K as the "down" and "up" keystrokes, respectively. Logically, then, "J" goes to the next note ("down" the page) and "K" goes up.
- Glen Campbell, B.A.
That explanation makes some sense except I would still make J up and K down

I think different people think opposite about what is next and previous in email and greader and other programs. e.g., choose to start with newst first or oldest first, choose to show emails with newest on top or bottom, etc.
- LogEx
I'm sure LE, just trying to think about this logically. When you go to the arrow pad and start from the left, clockwise it's left, up, right, down. I'm sure we can rationalize it anyway. it just feels backwards to me.
