Alex Scoble - yes. and I see a good reason now - if I don't understand what it's for in 20 seconds - it's not worth it. Day passed and I'm still not sure. :)
- Alex Gorbachev
How long does it take you to see the worth of a sheet of paper?
- Alex Scoble
few minutes in the toilet. OK - FF is gonski from my blog
- Alex Gorbachev
I use it every day now. I used to use iTweet's (from Rah's recommendation) but Rah recommended Tweetvisor a little later. :-) It's far easier to create groups in Tweetvisor than in TweetDeck.
- Kol Tregaskes
this becomes tough and confusing. some twitter stars say seesmic desktop is superior, others don't want to give up on tweetdeck, now there is tweetvisor. Sigh. cannot google move in and replace it all with one Uber Interface? :)
- roland legrand
I think it's important to just go with whatever client suits your needs. All clients have something slightly different and all have their pros and cons. Folks shouldn't be obsessed with which client is "best" as its a very subjective area.
- Richard Barley
Tweetvisor is asking me to log in, so they have my password? My twitter password is unique (no not the word unique) so if it's ever compromised all other accounts are ok. I suppose I'll try it....
- Mike Nencetti
the application takes 30 seconds to a minute to load.....zzzzzzz
- Mike Nencetti
+! Richard What works very well for some people won't work at all for others. (and roland, you should read Jesse Stay's blog post on using Gmail as a Twitter client http://staynalive.com/article... )
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Works great on FireFox although interferes w/ Ubiquity if using it in same window. It's got a ton of great features. Didn't want to load in Safari 4 though and I'm running 20mbps/20mbps fios connection.
- Mike Elliott
it would be nice If we could add our #FollowFriday recommendation list and integrate it with wefollow categories.
- zsafwan
It would be fantastic if this could be integrated with other services, such as FriendFeed and Facebook so that if also tracks a person's importance on the web, not just on Twitter.
- Zachary TG
Passionate Twitter users seem to want to evangelize it to everyone. "Twitter is changing the world! You need to get one before it's too late!" I never feel that way about Friendfeed. It's more that it greatly enhances *my* online experience, not that I think everyone should have one or that they'd even enjoy it.
I think the reason is that FF is more civilized and has not yet attracted the funboys of each service/brand/whatever
- George Iordanou
To me it's that Friendfeed is a very flexible and powerful service that requires a bit more web savvy to really grok compared to Twitter. I don't think everyone should have to know how RSS works or what the other 94,000 socnets out there do but if you're interested and willing to investigate then FF turns into a great homebase for one's news, community, and info discovery activity.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
I know *my* use of FF encompasses more than most people have the time or interest for so I don't really try to sell my use cases as great examples. There's probably still room on FF for people who don't want to be power users, I just haven't spent too much time figuring out where that room is.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
How to tell the non-programmer: when I read this, the first thing that popped into my mind was "My python boot was too tight, couldn't get it off last night, a week went by, and now it's July, I finally got it off and my girlfriend cried..."
- John E. Bredehoft
I'm still waiting for encryption by note and notebook in Evernote, and hierarchical notebooks.
- Rod Bauer
from twhirl
@Steve - how is this different from Backpack?
- Dave Hodson
@Dave Backpack is only for lists and notes - although you can do more with it. Evernote is a database. Sign up and upload some images with text in it. I don't keep my todos there. I use Things.
- Steve Rubel
Made the switch to Evernote a few months back and have enjoyed the service. Tried it for GTD but now using Toodledo (@Steve - Agree Things is great but really needed a way to access it on other computers, how did you find that?)
- Robert Mattar
I really like Evernote, but what keeps me from using it is the inability to export your notes on a mac...The only export available is to an Evernote file...I don't like feeling locked in like that.
- Chris Rossini
Steve, re Things on MobileMe: the page says "Choosing a web based location like iDisk is not possible. " . Is this incorrect? How are you doing it exactly?
- Meryn Stol
Steve, then the info on that page is probably wrong, because it states that you *can't* store the library on iDisk. At least, that's what I make of it...
- Meryn Stol
Meryn, I have it working fine. Move the directory they mention on that page to a director in idisk then point it
- Steve Rubel
from IM
I wish there were an Evernote for task management. I've never really gotten into Things anyway.
- Meryn Stol
I was a big google notebook fan but have since fallen in love with Evernote.
- Russ Jackson
I admit, I only started using Evernote because of the Google Notebook dump, but I'm glad it happened now, Evernote does most of what I need.
- Barbara
you gotta love the nice buildup of usage and it's mobile agnostic. I've tried jott too. Voice has a useful purpose...its' easy
- Tery Spataro
I use Evernote on my iPhone, albeit rarely, but still have most of my stuff online at Google Docs which I often use as a notepad.

"Now here’s something interesting, I set up a photo camera in my room, turned out all the lights and took a long-exposure shot of my roomba doing it’s thing for about 30 minutes. The result is a picture that shows the path of the roomba through it’s cleaning cycle, it looks like a flight map or something. It really hits every spot!"

This is one of those things that make me go "d'oh, why didn't I think of that [while my roomba was still working]". The sprial reminds me of a particle accelerator collision trace. Very cool.
- Jasmin Patry
I wish they'd make a Roomba which would steam-clean my carpet :)

""Recently, a lot of new non-relational databases have cropped up both inside and outside the cloud. One key message this sends is, "if you want vast, on-demand scalability, you need a non-relational database". If that is true, then is this a sign that the once mighty relational database finally has a chink in its armor?""

"Charles Phillips' "name was mentioned in a November WSJ report as a possible contender for the new position of "America's CTO." Instead, today President Obama named Charles (a former US Marine), along with venture capitalist John Doerr, GE (GE) chief Jefferey Immelt, and former SEC boss William Donaldson to his new 16-member Economic Recovery Advisory Board.""

"The coolest part was that the small amount I paid for an attendee registration ($285) has already been totally worth it, and the sessions haven’t even started yet." (OE comment: I'm seeing a lot of this conference cost justification myself. The conference that I help to plan is continuously taking steps to ensure that we meet the goals of attendees and their employers, and even then we're running into issues because employers are banning ALL conference attendance, beneficial or no.)

you must purchase Guitar Hero World Tour - get the entire thing (drums, etc)
- Dave Hodson
Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros Brawl. If you have old firmware version intall the Homebrew channel! Don't buy ANY third party games. They are all feces. And the cross-bow training game is wack too.
- pixelcrafter

@ pixelcrafter most third party games suck but some are really good like 'no more heroes' and 'zack and wiki'
- Karl Evard
Sheryl, I was never interested in video games before the Wii. Apparently that's the market it was originally aimed at and they certainly got me hooked :)
- Nicola Quinn
I don't have a Wii, but I do have a Nintendo DS and I have Mario Kart for it and it's awesome, so it must be even better on the Wii. I recommend Mario Kart Wii

I second the motion for a Wii Fit. It's more fun than you're bouncing ball seat. For real fun I agree with the calls for Guitar Hero World Tour. Even Guitar Hero 3 is extreme fun. The tunes are just right for guys our age. GHWT however looks like it goes leaps forward. I just got mine and will be playing as soon as I get some free time. No matter what just enjoy the Wii experience and ALWAYS wear the wrist straps!
- Derek Erb
yep wii fit is great and of course either guitar hero or rock band depending on what you like..acessories dont work with each other though..

Wii Sport for the tennis game, Top Spin 3 for, erm the tennis again. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Definitely a rechargeable battery pack and a dock to charge the Wiimotes. I have one from Nyko.
- Rodfather
hear great things about Guitar Hero World Tour...so I'm giving 3 away starting Feb 1st on my site. We will see how much response I get from that.

Legend of Zelda! Mario Cart, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros

I took this photo in Causeway Bay at 10pm. All the stores are open, there are insane crowds of people shopping, and a group of school kids started a breakdancing battle in the middle of the street.
- Jess Lee
@Jess, It's surreal to see, but at this point, your expectations will probably be too high. :) In any case, he was around where Russell St and Matheson St meet, near Exit A from CWB MTR. I'll send you a pic.

Great post. I use FriendFeed as a Yahoo! Pipes replacement. Set up a FF account, bring in all your favorite RSS feeds, publish your FF to Twitter, and get updates in Twitter when there are updates to your favorite blogs. Great for industry specific Twitter groups. Wish you could do this in Rooms rather than having to set up a new FF account. Both the FF and Twitter accounts can be private, too.
- Dominic Jones
from twhirl
IRWebReport, the only thing Pipes still does better is the handling of dupes.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
@ aka Tina, I wouldn't know. I tried using Pipes a long time ago and gave up after 10 minutes. This is one case where FriendFeed *is* simple. :-)
- Dominic Jones
I like FriendFeed better for having a converstation then I do twitter. With Twiiter you have too many people tweeting and you can't keep up with a converstation.
- Patrick
from twhirl
I don't mind as much but then again if the content is brief then I am less likely to click through anyway whereas a full text feed will more likely get read. Ads in full text feeds are the way to go as long as the ads aren't too obtrusive.
- Peter Kelley
Unfortunately I don't think this is possible in Joomla if one uses "Read More" breaks in articles for appearance purposes in a template. It goes into the RSS feed excerpted.
- Glenn Batuyong
I also prefer reading full RSS feeds instead of partial ones. The worst? As you point out: title-only feeds. I usually unsubscribe to these. I also hate when a post is really way too long on the feed. Complicated am I? :-) Now, I must admit that, as one that needs his blog for income, I see the reason behind the partial feeds.
- Paul Papadimitriou
100% agree. I won't click through or share. Steven wins.
- Louis Gray
I agree & applaud the Guardian newspaper here in UK for changing to full feeds. Can't believe BBC still stuck on partial.
- Richard McKay
I only subscribe to one partial feed blog (that of a friend) for exactly this reason. Hope those partial feeders out there can tell me why they think that I would use their RSS link to import in my Reader, and then have to continue clicking though someplace outside of it? *sigh*
- Victoria Plautia
I usually skip through the partial feeds myself.
- Adriana
I prefer partial feeds for newspapers and magazines, full feeds for blogs.
- Mitch Wagner
So if nobody goes to a site because they can view all the content in a feed, how does one make money?
- Mark Trapp
@Mark: Good posts makes me click on full feeds when I want to see possible comments or join discussion (which shows how important they are, too)
- Jemm
You make money by not being lame and relying on adverts.. it's not a real revenue stream and we're fucking ourselves by using them. Try a donate button at the bottom of every post or offer some form of subscription. You will always have a certain percentage that won't pay no matter what you do, but some will. Try to come up with exclusive content for subscribers only. I think the next big change for the net will be the implosion of the ad market.
- alphaxion
agreed 110%. It shows respect to your readers first and foremost. If your content is good they'll click on to your site
- Duncan Riley
Isn't FriendFeed one giant aggregation of partial feeds? I don't see any full articles here, just titles, image grabs and commentary by my friends, yet it's the only feed I am glued to for hours a day.
- Bill Strathearn
Agree: No Click Through for partial feeds for blogs. However, most newspapers are still only partial feeds - so its kinda har with them. Agree with alphaxion on the "donate" button - for blogs.... but again I'll find that unlikely for newspapers.
- Peter Efland
Doesn't it all depend on how well written the first paragraph is? I can't say that I don't read 100% of my parcial feeds. Some of them are interesting enough to make me click it.
- Nuno Curado
from twhirl
Yes partial feeds are silly when you can advertise directly in the feed
- sean
I don't understand the hostility towards partial feeds. If it looks interesting, I'll click through. Why wouldn't I? Why am I supposed to be so vehemently opposed to the idea of the author wanting me to go to their website?
- DGentry
@Bill Strathem - the difference with FriendFeed is that it is just an aggregator of post headlines and that is the expectation. FriendFeed being an aggregator does promote click through to the story. That doesn't mean I don't have a problem with it - as the conversations here I as a blogger would prefer on the blog but I'm just happy to have people clicking through to read. With headline or partial feeds there isn't that same click through. Too many thoughts to try and fit in here so maybe [...]
- Steven Hodson
[..] I'll write my thoughts up on the difference later
- Steven Hodson
@Nuno I have yet to see a compelling enough first paragraph on a partial feed yet that makes me click through.
- Steven Hodson
@Denton I guess it boils down to available time. If I have feeds that are full text they are saving me time. with partial feeds I have to first read the partial text - gauge whether it is interesting enough - then click through .. wait for the page to load .. either re-read what I have already read to find where to pick up or skim over until I find that spot. With full text in a way I guess it is like the author is appreciative of your time. It may not seem that important but maybe more of an unconscious...
- Steven Hodson
@Gregory .. that is a very fair point and one I think that a lot of bloggers wrestle with - I now I do with every long post. *I think* it boils down to a couple of things - aesthetics - a page of long posts get's unwieldy and lopsided. the other thing is that given the amount of traffic that comes into blogs from either direct links and/or search the front page is in someways secondary. So rather than deal with page load times with full text post on the main page make sure long posts don't add to the prob.
- Steven Hodson
Mark, you could include nonobtrusive ads at the end of your full feed posts.
- Philipp Lenssen
i like the idea, being someone that has looked for a solid task management app for some time - but for now... i am sticking with things (mac)...
- andrew
The answer: because I'll only use a todo-list manager if it runs inside gmail.
- j1m
Task management is a neat feature on gmail. A lot of people will not use a separate task management tool but will be happy to use the lightweight version built inside GMail.
- Bindu Reddy
Needs to sync w/ BlackBerry tasks like RTM does. Then they'll have a winner.
- Shawn Farner
Because everything else is too complex, requires too much commitment, and, at best, is a close second to a pencil and notebook.
- Jonathan Terleski
No good, Google should focus on the main application. They are going the Apple way by implementing every tiny application you can think of with limited features, while others can do this already much better (see RTM). They should open the Gmail API instead. Being a powerfull application platform is much better than the 105th ToDoList provider.
- Michael Zehrer
I'll stick with RTM because it does recognize what I actually mean when I type "Lunch Friday" and set the date automatically. The possibility to set priorities is another advantage of RTM.
- Nick
Found my answer but these are pretty Hidden features. Only found by accident, an average user will struggle with this right now.

Found the full screen with the tabs across the top for all networks, nice
- MedicalQuack
The world needs a screencast of PeopleBrowsr because a laptop's acreage is way too limited.
- Bernie Goldbach
Hi Barbara, where did you find the full screen with the tabs across the top? Was this on peoplebrowsr.com? Thanks a lot.
- SHHHE
Mark, to add more IDs, you can click on 'Add IDs' on the bottom of the page. Cheers!

i can never get the thing to work, won't even log in... you think they started "promoing" or whatever a little early??
- Terry O'Fee
Terry how is it going now? Are you using FF3 or Safari 3.1? Thanks for your help.
- SHHHE
ff3 - to be honest ive never used safari.. ill give it another try, thanks..
