Feedly Wall Fail on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

"Redesign in progress. Based on popular demand, we are in the process of redesigning the concept of the wall into something that is much more tightly integrated with twitter. More about this around Dec 15th. " Darn it, I was just about to write a blog post on the Feedly Wall. - Phil Glockner via Bookmarklet
Phil. Sorry. We had to take it down to reduce the memory footprint of the client. It will be back. And I will make sure that you get access to the preview before Dec 15th. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Thanks Edwin. I just wanted to highlight how the Wall accumulates all the recent gReader shared item comments in one place. I'll be looking forward to the enhancements you make! - Phil Glockner
cool. we are going to keep the gReader part. We are just going to add an option to read, reply, inline, correlate, etc... twitter messages too. Have a good evening. - Edwin Khodabakchian

Zee, Firefox 3.0.4 is not a beta version. The beta version is Firefox 3.1* - LouCypher
Help - I updated FF to 3.0.4 and now it crashes so I cannot use it. Where can I find a copy of 3.0.3? I am using Portable FF now. - Russellreno
oh bollocks, on windows...what are you on? - Zee from WeDoCreative
The interesting thing is that Firefox 3.04 is listed as a Beta. What is up with that? At least it was when I downloaded it... - Stephen Pierzchala
Stephen, i don't believe it is beta - although at the time of posting the page on firefox.com had beta included in the title - Zee from WeDoCreative
Zee - I reinstall 3.0.3 and got the same lousy results. - Russellreno
If I am right both of my comps have automatically updated to this version today? - Sharron Field via twhirl
Mine updated two days ago. - Russellreno
My 3.0.4 crashed after I installed Cool Iris and Feedly. - Russellreno
Russell: if you have 3.0.4 still installed, could you please go to about:crashes and share a couple of the report ids? I will try to take a look and see if I can shed some lights on what might be the cause of the problem. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin: Firefox crashes before it finishes loading. I installed 3.0.3 on top of 3.0.4 and it does the same thing. Suggestions? - Russellreno
Russell: do you mean that it does not have the time to generate a report? - Edwin Khodabakchian
Russell: Here is something we can do to determine if feedly is to blame for this: 1) stop firefox, 2) go to your profile directory (on mac /Users/xxx/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxx.yyyy 3) go to extensions an delete feedly@devhd folder and 4) go back down and delete extensions.cache, entensions.ini and extensions.rdf 5) restart the browser. - Edwin Khodabakchian
If feedly is not to blame, you can iterate with the other extensions until you stop seeing the crash. If feedly is to blame, let me know and I will open a bug around this. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin - yes it is open for only a few seconds then closes followed by crash message and request to send a report. Is that the report you want to see? - Russellreno
Yes. That is the report I want. With the report id or report URL, we will be able to understand which specific module/line of code in firefox is crashing. Which will allow me to know if this is something feedly might be calling or not (and if so open a bug with the firefox team). - Edwin Khodabakchian
I am using Windows XP Pro. BuildID - 2008092417 URL is Http ... Lastpass.com - Russellreno
URL got clipped. Can you please email it to me at edwink@devhd.com please - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin helped me resolve my issue. The issue was with CoolIris and not Feedly. Feely is now my home page. There is a conflict with my virus protection and Coolris. - Russellreno
For older versions of Firefox: http://releases.mozilla.org/pu... - LouCypher

Twitterrank is a vast conspiracy I created to steal all of your passwords and shame Twitter into OAuthing. And to make you look vain. - huixing
which is why exactly hold off from using feedly which require google account even though how much site author assure user to guard user privacy. thing will happen to leak user data due to poorly configured databases or whatever reason. - huixing
hello huixing: did you ever tried feedly? if you do, you will notice that feedly *NEVER* asks for ANY PASSWORD. We let the browser http stack manage the authentication of the services we integrate, in a fashion very similar to oauth. This is one of the benefits of being a firefox add-on. - Edwin Khodabakchian

“I really want to use Feedly, but it can't seem to remember what I've read and what I haven't. It's pretty and would be a great new way to read feeds, but it just doesn't work for me yet.”
November 2 at 9:45 am - Link
Hi Michael. Sorry about that. If you scroll down at the bottom of the page, what is the version number you are seeing (it should be of the format 1.2.XX). What do you mean by "it can't seem to remember what I've read"? Any hint on how we could reproduce the problem you are seeing? Thanks. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin, version 1.2.63. It shows that I have unread articles in my feeds when Google Reader does not. And it really doesn't matter which page I'm on... Cover, Latest, Greatest, category, etc. Next to the feed name it shows a number, which I assume is the number of unread articles, but in Google Reader there are no unread articles. When I click on a category or feed, it shows articles that have been marked as read several times even when I check the "unread only" box. - Michael Hocter
Thanks for the clarification Michael. I wanted to make sure that the problem you were seeing was similar to a couple of other bugs we have been hunting down (and it is). Will update this thread when we have a better understanding of what might be causing this problem. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin, thanks for getting back to me... and on a Sunday! - Michael Hocter
Michael: here is an update. We pushed out this evening patch 1.2.66 which include fixes to 3 bugs which could be related to the problem you were experiencing. You should get the patch automatically next time you restart the browser. If you get the chance to kick the tires please let us know if those 3 fixes and up addressing the problem you were seeing. Thank you. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin, Sorta. The main section only shows unread articles now, but on the right the sources still show an inaccurate count of unread messages that doesn't match Google Reader. - Michael Hocter
Ok. we are going to continue looking. A couple of quick questions: Does the problem happen on a subscription or category listing? In the number of articles you are seeing in the list in feedly consistent with the number you see in the sidebar on feedly or are those 2 numbers inconsistent too? A screenshot of what you are seeing in feedly and google reader would be very useful. My email is edwink@devhd.com. Thank you - Edwin Khodabakchian
Edwin, I sent you some screenshots. Thanks a lot for your help! - Michael Hocter
Got it. Thank you. Very useful. Will continue to hunt down the other causes to this problem. We will keep you posted. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Yeah! Version 1.2.68 is working correctly for me! :) Thank you, Edwin. - Michael Hocter

“I know that Feedly and now Google Reader both allow you to get social with your RSS feeds. FriendFeed also allows you to see what others are reading on Google Reader. What other methods are out there to make consuming RSS less boring and more pro-active as far as finding you new stuff to look at?”
October 30 at 12:17 pm - Link
I'm not sure if I include Social Median, Readburner, and Regator, but I think that's only because I haven't really figured out how to really use those types of sites to my benefit. - ♫ Rahsheen™
Whoa whoa what!?? Google Reader is social?? I could need this if they block FriendFeed on me one day... running to check this out... - Kamilah Gill
Toluu (http://www.toluu.com) is a great way to discover new feeds by seeing what your "friends" are subscribing to. - Justin Korn
Do I still need an invite for toluu? EDIT: Yep. Let's see how long it takes to get one this time. - ♫ Rahsheen™
is it under "friends' shared items" or something? this could save me (sort of) if FriendFeed gets blocked, though they'd need an "everyone" tab so I could find new people. - Kamilah Gill
Yes, Ma'am. I think they have to be your friend on GTalk for it to work. - ♫ Rahsheen™
Rah - wish I could send you an invite, but doesn't seem like I can. Sorry dude. - Justin Korn
looks like I'm out of invites, twitter caleb, he'll get u hooked - Dobromir Hadzhiev
I hope gtalk doesn't have to work for it because that part is blocked, but Reader should be safe because it has definite work uses. FriendFeed has uses, too, but if it gets too social and too well-known some idiot will find it and axe it. Right now just certain services are blocked on here for me, like Flickr and YouTube. I see no images for those. - Kamilah Gill
Not sure if it needs GTalk to work, but it does seem to use those contacts to know whose shared stuff you wanna read. - ♫ Rahsheen™
I've tried Feedly two different times now. I just don't get its benefits. Quit using it both times. I like Google Reader too much. - Matt
If someone explains Social Median to me, I'll go back. I haven't been able to make heads r tails out of it. - Robert Owens
Matt: can you think of features that if added to feedly would make it better? - Edwin Khodabakchian
@Edwin: For a casual user that isn't a hard core RSS person, I can see the benefits of a "magazine-like" interface. But for a hard core RSS user that sifts through thousands of posts a day, Feedly just isn't efficient enough. I can "J" my way through posts, star, share, and write notes much more quickly than in Feedly. Not saying it's a bad product. Just not for me. - Matt
Edwin, if you had to explain Feedly to someone who barely understands RSS and blogs, how would you do it? (feel free to link me to something pre-written. - ♫ Rahsheen™
Rahsheen, send me your email address: fourlittlebees at gmail dot com and I'll send one right to you. :) - Cyndy
Rahsheen - Regator is geared more towards RSS and blog novices but we do have some more advanced tools that allow you to set up your own feeds. You can set up RSS feeds for any combination of blogs on the site, keywords that appear in posts, Favorite topics/channels and your saved posts. We aren't altogether THAT social just yet. We are launching a much needed redesign next week which should really improve the look, feel and usability. We will be adding more social tools shortly after the redesign is up. - Scott Lockhart
@matt: fair enough. We tried to improve some of the productivity gaps in the "latest" view + keyboard support but Google Reader is still the king if that is all what you do. We are going to continue to add a couple of things in the latest view but as you pointed out it is not our core focus. - Edwin Khodabakchian
I might add that if you are looking for new stuff in blogs that is less boring and more pro-active in giving you a range of topics in an easy to read format, you might give Regator a look. We have qualified editors who handpick all the nearly 4000 blogs on Regator in 450 categories. We also aggregate audio and video which makes using the site far less boring - so we have heard. http://www.regator.com - Scott Lockhart
Hey, Scott. You guys are based here in Atlanta? - ♫ Rahsheen™
Yes we are! In Decatur. Wanna have lunch or something sometime? - Scott Lockhart
@Rahsheen: I do not really have a crisp description yet. We want to help people build their own personalized newspaper/magazine. We do not deliver on this promise yet though. We need to let people better describe their interest, we need to better organize the articles (more by topics and meme and less by sources) and we need to become more a companion of their existing web experience (vs. becoming a new site). What would you change/improve? - Edwin Khodabakchian
Definitely a possibility, Scott. :) - ♫ Rahsheen™
Not sure, Edwin. I have been on-and-off with Feedly *and* Google Reader. I get most of my info from right here on FriendFeed. I plan to do an evaluation of most of the services mentioned here, though. Trying to find the best ways to stuff more info directly into my brain in the shortest time possible. :) - ♫ Rahsheen™
Regator looks interesting, Scott. Can't wait till you guys open it back up. Have a few nominations for you guys :) - ♫ Rahsheen™
We're releasing our redesign next week where we are pretty much simplifying everything and increasing the usability significantly - we've had pHDs in online usability and way smart web 2.0 folks advising us on it and we're excited to see what people think. Nominations for new blogs will be opening up again soon thereafter. Right now our editors are just going out and finding great blogs ourselves and letting them know. - Scott Lockhart
Google Reader suggests new feeds in the sidebar. I've found them to be pretty good guesses most of the time. - Paul Reynolds

Robert.. start talking to Om.. he seems to be doing well. - Chris W
You are lucky scoble, you are well known enough to always land on your feet, even if fastcompany scraps .tv - Mark
Christopher: Om started doing his own business long before I did PodTech. And, "doing well" means "he just got funded." I knew I wouldn't have gotten funded when I left PodTech because I had no team to build out anything and no way to do that before a downturn hit. - Robert Scoble
John: because I saw a downturn coming and wanted to hook my brand onto a stronger brand -- building a media company going into a downturn didn't sound like a great idea. I'm happy with my choices. - Robert Scoble
Mark: FastCompany can't easily scrap TV -- at least not in 2009. :-) - Robert Scoble
@scoble: funny to hear you talk like this-- I think you're underselling your brand. In any case, did you ever think about TV? Get an agent to see if you could get a show? Somehting like that??? Bring the message to the masses????? - john conroy
John: TV is going to see a bloodbath next year. Why would I want to be on TV? By the way, that's not me saying that. That's Harry Fuller who used to run KPIX for 20 years (channel 5 in San Francisco). He called that six months ago and it's looking very true. - Robert Scoble
TV would be bad for Robert. Too many restrictions and they would force Robert to change the way he does things. - Chris W
Robert: Hang in there man...It's almost surreal watching this happen. I've never earned a lot of money, and I've been in and out of jobs off and on (I have major ADD and no health insurance), so I probably won't feel the pinch for a while. This is a time when I'm thankful for not having a mortgage and for my landlords being family. Hope things start going better for you folks on the West Coast. - Sean McGee
Sean: the thing is that this isn't just a coastal thing. It's going to affect almost every community. That's what makes it different than the last downturn, which mostly was a tech downturn. - Robert Scoble
Respectfully, Robert, I don't think the last downturn was "mostly a tech downturn". It started out that way, maybe, but the response to the terrorist attacks slowed down everything - travel... tourism... you name it. - Louis Gray
Louis: yeah, you're right, but 9/11 was a temporary and quick hit on economy. This is going to be far longer and deeper. - Robert Scoble
