Long walk out in the chilly but lovely sunshine. Now to work on that ALA leadership institute application...
Yeah, it's fine until the wind picks up! - LB needs a break. from Android
Friday nights at the laundrymat have become catch up.on FF time. I will be sad in 2 weeks.
oops. I forgot to pay my gas bill last month. Just scheduled that payment for Tuesday, that being payday.
This ALA leadership institute application requires 4 personal statements. Sure, they're only up to 300 words each, but don't they know how busy I am? :p
I have 10,000 miles on my car now. I bought it in August 2013, so that took 19 months or so? Ok.
Lower than average! - Stephen Mack from iPhone
yep. Most of my commutes are by train, and I often take the bus to the train rather than drive, so that keeps it down (and limits those very short trips that can be tough on cars, since I'm pretty close to the station) - ellbeecee
Nice! I just hit 78K and have had mine since 2007. I'm debating making my next car be a fancy pants lease if my low mileage trend remains the same. - Soup in a TARDIS
I hit 177,777 on Sunday! - Miriella from Android

It reminded me that I've been seeing this commercial recently, which shows that only white people go hiking in Utah. https://www.youtube.com/watch... - ellbeecee
it's far too early, y'all. ick.
But, I'm up and dressed and waiting for coworker's arrival so we can drive to Macon. Sadly, I won't be seeing LB or Soup whilst there. - ellbeecee
Safe travels regardless! - LB needs a break. from Android
made it with plenty of time. would have liked a Starbucks nearby, but alas, no such luck. - ellbeecee
Sorry! :( We have a Jittery Joe's just off our campus, but I have no idea what's over that way. - LB needs a break.
they gave us coffee. I'm waking up, after driving 90 minutes :) - ellbeecee
the fact that there's Jittery Joe's in Macon makes me happy. have a safe trip! - t-ra needs this place
So, we may have left Macon at about 10 'til 4 this afternoon. I may be home now, and have been here long enough to change clothes and put dinner in the oven. Me, drive fast? Nope. Not a chance, I swear. I was just keeping up with the flow of traffic, officer. - ellbeecee
I must drive like you do. - LB needs a break. from Android
Apparently this is filming across the street the next few days. Yay? http://www.imdb.com/title...

It's rainy and gross. Why wouldn't I start a re-watch of Dance Academy today?
Lost my fountain pen today. Immediately ordered a new one from Amazon when I got home. I don't know if I unconsciously take more care with my writing with one or what, but I'm certainly more legible with one.

Publishers' Move Could Mean 'Whole New Trial' in GSU Copyright Case - http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw...
Poor GSU. So many legal fees. - lris
yeah, I can definitely see a use for a broad-based legal-defense fund a la CBLDF. I haven't heard of anything like that in the university context, though. - RepoRat
"Fair Use Legal Defense Fund?" something like that. - RepoRat
It is as if publishers don't like fair use. - Joe
It's one of those Western-movie standoffs. A lot of 'em don't make money off permissions once overhead is taken into account, but for any of them to lay down arms, they'd all have to. - RepoRat

Today is incredibly twangy in my music. Currently: Hank Jr, Family Tradition. "Leave me alone, I'm singing all night long it's a family tradition"
I swear this playlist has other stuff in it, but it is really hitting ALL the country first: Boot Scootin' Boogie, Redneck Woman, Jolene... - ellbeecee

#SaturdayFF (I think my first ever). My other major online network is the Straight Dope Message Board. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb... . I ended up there after a different message board I was on instigated a "board war" with the SDMB. I found I liked the SDMB better and have been a member there since June 2000. The other board is long defunct
What was the topic of the other board? - Stephen Mack from iPhone
Ha. I left that out waiting to see if anyone would ask. It was an evangelical religious board. I went through a very religious phase the last time I lived in Atlanta - I was miserable here, and a specific religious group seemed to be the cure. It wasn't, FWIW, but for a while there I'd thrown myself into it as much as I could hoping it would help. - ellbeecee
So, if you, as a pedestrian, walk into the crosswalk, get 3/4 of the way across, turn around, go halfway back to the initial curb, THEN turn around again, while I'm stopped at the 4-way stop waiting to go that way? I'm going to judge you. I did raise both my hands in a generalized questioning expression, but I am doing better, most of the time...
with anger while I'm driving. You, though, pedestrian dude? Yeah, I was judging the hell out of you (had he dropped something, that would have been entirely different. This was just random turning around while crossing the road) - ellbeecee
I should try that today. - Joe

laundrymat. do I know how to rock a Friday night or what?
I always went on Friday night, because it wasn't crowded! - Catherine Pellegrino
I typically come Sat AM because traffic to get here. but it is kind of quiet and nice. I might do this more often. plus, I don't need to get up at the butt-crack of dawn. - ellbeecee from Android
I'm doing laundry tonight too! - Soup in a TARDIS
In having a conversation with someone today I realized I am 6 days out from being 9 years smoke free. GO ME.
that is awesome! - kendrak
WOO HOO - Soup in a TARDIS
3 days. I had a moment today where I thought, out of nowhere, "a cigarette would be nice right now". I didn't physically want one, just a mental moment. Fuck that shit. That's my brain being it's little enabler self and we're not having that at all. - ellbeecee
I hope it isn't terribly rude to ask, but how did you kick the habit? I'm having a terrible time cutting soda and I'd love to know how you managed to make such a successful health change. - Soup in a TARDIS
I used Chantix - and I honestly didn't expect it to work, to the point that I bought a pack one night and woke up the next morning, had one and never touched the rest of the pack. Now, I gave up soda a couple of years ago and that went in stages. First, I went to fizzy water - the soda stream gave me water with the amount of fizz I like, and I kept unsweet iced tea for daytime caffeine.... more... - ellbeecee
Dr. Pepper, Janet - Soup in a TARDIS
You kicked soda and smoking? Okay, color me impressed forever. FOREVER. - Soup in a TARDIS
well, the conversation with my AZ dentist about the number soda, even diet, like I drank, can do on teeth was a big motivator. it probably contributed strongly to some, though not all, of the teeth issues I've had. - ellbeecee
Soup, I struggled to give up soda and finally kicked the habit last year. Coke was my weakness, with the occasional root beer. - Corinne L

Remember when you were moving to Arizona and you kept us all posted on where you were? I was just remembering that. - laura x
Who is your favorite author? - LB needs a break. from Android
I do, laura :) It was good to have people to check in with other than my mother as I drove. I even remember my stopping places each day: Terre Haute, Joplin, Albuquerque, Tucson. Coming back east it was Van Horn, TX, Tyler, TX, Birmingham, Atlanta. :) - ellbeecee
Favorite ever is Tamora Pierce, LB. YA fantasy, but absolutely comfort reading for me. That said, my favorite book is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. - ellbeecee
What's your favorite meal to cook? - LB needs a break.
No favorite singular meal to cook. But I really like trying new recipes. Back when I had the space in my kitchen, I loved one that really let me practice my knife skills. Sadly, those have deteriorated because I have no room in my current kitchen. The next place will have space and I will get them back. - ellbeecee
How did you get to be so impressively CAPABLE? - Meg VMeg
Wait, what? Did you mean to make me choke on my water? I feel like I do a lot of faking it (but I think almost everyone feels that way). :) - ellbeecee
Nah, you've always struck me as very capable. There's probably a better word, but I can't think of it. - Meg VMeg
well, thank you! I suspect it comes from personality (I know I'm very like my father there, and I've heard a number of similar things said about him) - like him, I tend to hide my panic/stress/worries, until the reason for such is done. That said, if you ever catch me rubbing the lower back of my head with my right hand, that's apparently an absolute stress tell for me. - ellbeecee
Which do you think will get you first, instant karma or the rhythm? - Corinne L
I'd like it to be the rhythm (that seems way more fun), but realistically it will probably instant karma. - ellbeecee

And I was going to be so good, so I went out to get my prescription refill tonight. Got home and realized they'd given me a 30 day supply, not the 90 that my paperwork says. Called them and I'm going back tomorrow anyway. I should have just gone tomorrow to start with. :p - ellbeecee

Friendfeed, for me, was the only social network that became truly social, where I felt like people connected with others. That's as much a function of the people here than anything else. The community is the biggest loss.
Looking (and taking screenshots) of some of the threads that were important to me. Among those are the comfort when my dad passed last fall, but also the joy that here has seen. The weddings, the babies, the people helping people, all of it. :) - ellbeecee
For the #FriendFeed folks, remember there's http://www.reddit.com/r... too
Somehow, reddit as a home for LSW or substitute for FF just... well, no. - walt crawford

Monday mornings, especially just after springing forward, should not have this much math in them. #ugh
After several weekends where I actively avoided cleaning, living room, kitchen and bathroom are clean. Need to straighten the bedroom, and I'll feel much more positively toward my living space this week. The second bedroom needs a level of work that won't happen today.
laundrymat. whee. I so need a new place with a washer and dryer. and a balcony where I can sit in peace while the laundry washes.
