Looking up at buildings in the Financial District at night

I miss living in New York City. I miss loved ones. They are gone from this world now. Twelve years ago, they were alive. I miss you, my Husband. And my Father, and Phyllis, Aunt Bertha, Grandma Sylvia, Cousin Celia, Mel. I miss you, I think of you every day. The grief is unrelenting. I love each of you. Always. Always. In my mind and in my heart. I wish I had appreciated, been kinder, more respectful, more devoted, more loving to you, when you were alive. Now you are gone. Forever. I love you. I miss you.

I think that I will be taking a break from Tumblr for awhile. I need to seriously look for, and find gainful employment. It is dire.

To any who may be reading this, please feel free to find me elsewhere on the internet, anywhere. Look on the right, in the sidebar. That is a good place to start, if you are so inclined.

Thank you for two good years here.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Bowl fragments with Menorah, Shofar and Torah

Description: Roman Empire, early 4th century via Rogers Fund 1918; Media is glass and gold leaf, with an inscribed border in Latin. It reads as follows:

I BIBAS CVM EVLOGIA COKP
Drink with praise together Details and provenance
This is a rare example of Roman Empire era Jewish gold glass. It depicts an open ark for the Torah. Rolled parchment scrolls rest on the shelves. Temple implements include two Menorah, a Shofar and an etrog fruit. These are still traditional, 1700 years later.

The bowl is on display as part of the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. According to the Met, there once was more, when the bowl was intact:
Originally, a banqueting scene was shown below, with a fish on the tripod table in front of a cushion.

Most people feel compassion toward Eleanor Roosevelt, due to her husband FDR’s later marital infidelity. I read the sentiment above. I think of how it reflects on Eleanor’s outlook (if it were truly representative of such). Then, my viewpoint changes, and I feel compassion toward FDR, for staying wed to and fathering five (or was it seven?) children with Eleanor! Talk about marital duties, no fun, soldiering on…

I hope that Eleanor Roosevelt was not as holier-than-thou and distant as the quote conveys. Maybe Eleanor presented this demeanor as her public-facing persona, but not in private with her family, or at a minimum, not with her husband? For FDR’s sake, I truly hope that in private life, they were happy, at least some of the time.

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

Slightly odd, almost dub step sound that reminds me of Sonic Youth distortion. That is probably because I still have my treble set for listening to Scarlatti and Telemann.

I found this uplifting, sort of like Nine Inch Nail’s Bite the Hand that Feeds, which is also inspiring, their one and only song of hope.

Here are the lyrics that I especially liked:

 Welcome to my new age
 I’m radioactive radioactive…

 All systems go!
 Sun hasn’t died.

Deep in my bones, straight from inside,
 I’m waking up!

 Welcome to my new age.

I had thoughts of being on a spaceship, navigating over a rough spot, but all was back on track again.
