"You know that photoshop whiz kid friend of yours? The one that plays his keyboard like a Steinway as he dodges and burns his way to photographic perfection?
That could be you.
Be the pinball wizard. But for Photoshop (or Aperture, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, After Effects, or Logic Pro)!
You wouldn't learn how to type on a keyboard with no letters on it, why try to learn keyboard shortcuts without the shortcuts right on your keys?" - Mona N.

TV.com is your reference guide to CSI: NY episode All in the Family. Episode guide, cast and crew information, analysis, polls, reviews and more. - Elliot Tucker
"The D700 features an FX-format first introduced with the Nikon D3. Highly praised for its outstanding features, the D3 established a new level of professional performance in terms of overall image quality, extraordinarily low noise, ISO sensitivity range, continuous high-speed shooting, color gradation, image crispness, durability, weather-resistant operation, system versatility and more.
The new D700 incorporates an extensive array of features that boast a level of performance that is in many ways comparable to the D3. At the same time, it derives a wide range of benefits – including functionality, flexibility and operability – from the more agile D300, Nikon's flagship DX-format D-SLR." - RAPatton

People have been speculating that Canon has the 5D MkII ready but wanted to wait for Nikon's announcement and then steal their thunder with their announcement a few days later. Just like Nikon did last year with the D3 and D300 announcement just days after Canon's 1Ds MkIII. So, for the 5D MkII it might be any day now. Or as late as Photokina. - Ole Begemann
List price is something like $3,260 and the map price is $2,999. Street price will be $2,999 at least for a few months if the D300 and D3 is any indication. @Elliot Tucker grab some extra dough when you rob the bank. Anyone want to buy a D300 :-) - gfurry
Yeah, the 5D is much cheaper now. But it's 3 years old and it too started out at $3000. The 5D MkII will probably be closer to $3000 than $2000. - Ole Begemann
I agree Ole, my guess is the new 5D comes out around $3,200 on launch which would pit these two cameras directly in competition. I wish they'd release that damn 5D already. - Thomas Hawk
Ole: I guess we will all have to wait for a short time to see where the new 5D sits in price and features. I suspect it will be well below the D700 though - Brian Sullivan
I can't image it wouldn't be very close in features to the D700. I could see it having a higher megapixel count. - gfurry
My guess is that the new 5D will have a higher ISO sensitivity range, anti dust cleaning technology, more FPS, and a handful of other less significant features and will be priced at around $3,200, at least for the first six months because the early adopters will probably pay more, then followed by price drops to put it in position with this camera. - Thomas Hawk
Love the first sentence of Ken Rockwell's post: "The Nikon D700 is Nikon's top new amateur camera." Just about everything in this camera screams "pro" IMO. But goes to show how much we amateurs are prepared to pay for the newest gadget. - Ole Begemann
If this is any indication of what the Canon 5D Mk2 will be like I can't wait. We should know what Canon has to offer very shortly. - Jeff P. Henderson
Yeah, hey, when any of you upgrade to this and feel like selling off your old camera (you know, for cheap ;-) ) let me know. - Jordan Hofker
Jordan, I don't think anyone would ever want to buy my old 5D, I beat the hell out of it and it's well beyond the 100,000 frames advertised shutter life. I've been thinking when I upgrade I might turn it into an infared camera. Still not sure. If you want to buy a used camera, your best bet is always from someone who bought one and never used it. - Thomas Hawk
I'm a Nikon guy, so I've been waiting for an affordable full frame sensor camera to compete with the 5D. I'll probably have to wait a few years to move to something like this ($$$). Hopefully my D50 doesn't crap out before then! - Matt
@Thomas I found a great place to buy and sell used camera equipment. I've sold a bunch of old gear to them. They are quite reputable. KEH.com Check out their web site. - Jeff P. Henderson
Bloody hell, my D300 is barely six months old and already it's being put to shame. - Eric P
I hope it will be only Friendfeed soon. Doesn't anybody else get tired of all these different kind of networks? Sometimes monopoly is a good thing. Let's all head over to MSN ;-) - Rutger Blom
via twhirl
mine is a little more extreme - friendfeed mostly & twitter rarely - i do push my ff's to twitter & i check my twitter replies & dm sometimes - i would like to get to the point where all my friends are in friendfeed and i no longer need to go to twitter at all - i used to like whales ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
Agree. They are different and both ueful in different ways. I see no need to choose between them just yet. I'm using Plurk too, which is different again - very informal conversation. - jjprojects
Disagree. Reason? Time. I don't have time for multiple services. For me, right now at least, it's FF. - Steve Rubel
You don't need one to use the other but they sure are handy to use together - JohnBfromMemphis
via twhirl
Haven't maid up my mind yet, but it seems that the different services and their approaches fill different needs. Undecided for now! - tekspectator
Exactly! Why does it have to be "either" "or"? - Steve
I definitely agree. It is frustrating to have people insist one is better than the other. Two totally different beasts. - Shawn Farner
via twhirl
could not agree more. probably the best twitter, FF comment in a long time. - Bastian
Agree! At this point, FF's comment functionality isn't good enough to replace Twitter for me. With Twhirl, it doesn't seem like tool overload to use both. - jen robinson
via twhirl
Apart from twitter's SMS interface.. what is missing (for you) in FF? @ ? - Kishore Balakrishnan
Its FF only. reaons against Twitter : (a) Twitter whaling to often (b) not easy to track/thread twitter replies together. FOR FF (1) FF stable (2) FF Conov enabler/agggreagator (3) I like it better :)- - Peter Dawson
An integrated solution with both would be best. Twittering out of FriendFeed - that's my dream! - Matthias Schwenk
Oh definitely agree. They are symbiotic beasts - Deepak
Agree absolutely, when social media tools complement, the sum become greater than the parts - Charlie Hope
via twhirl
@ Matthias you can comment back from FF in Twitter already... - Charlie Hope
via twhirl
and, and, and... there's Utterz, Flickr, blog, etc. etc. etc. -- so, yes. It all goes together. FriendFeed has a chance to become a hub (the way Twitter is foe me now, but more so), if it can somehow tame itself - Doug Haslam
via twhirl
Funny how this comes to my attention now as Twitter is not updating for me, but FF is. I love how I can reply to FF via @Twhirl. That is a dynamic combintion. - Tracy Lee Carroll
via twhirl
@Matthias I wonder if someone has created a tool that takes your own FF posts and makes a tweet from it? You'd need to turn off tweets in FF otherwise there would be a feedback loop that would eventually destroy the universe. - Elliot Tucker
elliot: twitterfeed does that, put in your ff atom feed and remove your twitter feed from ff - mike "glemak" dunn
Agree....finally somebody comes out and says it as it should be said :) - Arjun
it's both right now - if you have group of people in Twitter then it is both - otherwise the conversation is moving more into friendfeed on a greater range of topics so for those not so tied to twitter it is twitter or friendfeed - riaz
Disagree. Twitter has crossed the line. It is dead to me and too much of the time it is dead to everyone. - Dave Slusher
I kind of agree. There's too much noise on FriendFeed to have simple, conversational, exchanges. - Bill Bittner
If Twitter doesn't get its act together, it will be FriendFeed and no Twitter. I'm revisiting FriendFeed today after a nice hiatus - Michael Koby
via Alert Thingy
This is be being real: I love Twitter, and don't get me wrong, I think FriendFeed is cool, too.. but I think Facebook will ultimately adopt the killer features of both and wipe them out. - Shawn Farner
via twhirl
Elliot, you can try feeding your FF entries feed into Twitterfeed.com. - Dewald Pretorius
And probably many other services we'll adopt - Sally Robinson
Agreed. FF, to me, is more of a reading rather than authoring experience - Michael Lehman
Agree. Friend Feed is my Twitter extension for comments and groups - Jon Bishop
Agree; tell me though, does Pownce = Twitter + FriendFeed [or vice-versa] or am I just being thick? Twhirl posts to Pownce for me as well, but taking Rafe Needleman's advice and not tracking multiple communities. FF good for posts too long for Twitter - Justin Guy Souter
via twhirl
FriendFeed > Twitter for me. I feel more value when I post here first. - Steve Isaacs
agree, and, in between Twitter and Friendfeed , many other indispensible things are included. - Nikos Anagnostou
Both - but grudgingly. Honestly? The only reason I go to FF is because some of my Twitterpals migrated here and won't come back. Twitter is my main gal - FF is my Friday night stand-in. If I could do away with FF I would. - Lucretia Pruitt
Twitter is too myopic to last much longer. Our online lives are a lot more complicated than 140 characters. - David Weiner
How much time to we all have?? There are use cases for both twitter and friend feed. Some people WILL choose one or the other. There are functional aspects that i like about both. For me it is both. - Rodney Rumford
Its neither - it's what fits your structure and how you want to connect. If you want actual conversations and build on relationpships, IMO, Plurk is good at that. FF seems too cluttered but aggregates a lot information together. Twitter is still good for me and is a great broadcast tool, some communication, and a lot of industry heads that you can learn from. - Sonny Gill
What the heck, throw in Plurk and you got a deal. - Rick Wolff
It's becoming less and less so. I'd much rather have one service I can do it all on and FriendFeed satisfies that much better. Twitter still has things FF doesn't though so for what FF doesn't satisfy, I will continue to use Twitter for. - Jesse Stay
via twhirl
I suppose I could go with the AND if FF offered a pure stream like twitter. I really don't like the threaded conversation presentation ... but maybe that's because I mostly use twirl? - Clint
You're almost right. I get what you're getting at. But the two are different and will grow separate paths with some common features. - phil baumann
phil, if they do grow in separate paths, that's great! I'll continue using both! However, I will not continue to use both for the same reasons. I'm removing the duplicate effort lately and consolodating what I can over to FriendFeed, leaving the remaining effort to Twitter. - Jesse Stay
via twhirl
My other concern is that Twitter just doesn't have the expertise up high to make it a successful service. You will see the FF founders frequently engaged in conversations about FF on their service. I have yet to see a single Twitter founder engage in any of the critiques or compliments about their service on Twitter. - Jesse Stay
via twhirl
FF ideal for social discovery as long as folks hooking up enough of their services. I like the "noise" of FF. - Stephen Francoeur
...and Plurk, and Facebook, and Pownce, and Jaiku, and more to come. Twitter for its simplicity and all the add-on apps and all the others for conversations or smaller groups with specific interests. - Brenda Young
$20 is ridiculous, some countries enforce $150-200 fines. - Amit Morson
In Ireland "Motorists who use hand-held mobile phones face an EUR 435 fine, three months' jail and a six-month driving ban." Yep, you guys have it pretty easy. And only $4 a gallon of gas! You're so lucky. - Elliot Tucker
$20 is silly, but drivers using cell phone in CA face bigger risks if they cause an accident. You might see even manslaughter charges brought up if a cell phone distracted driver causes a death since using a cell phone has been compared to driving while intoxicated. See LA Times story:http://www.latimes.com/news/lo... - mark ivey
@mark ivey: I'm sure the guy who died in the accident will really appreciate it... - Amit Morson
I guess the $20 is more like $100 after you factor in court costs etc. All I know is they won't be getting me. - Johnny Baker
And how much does the cop that pulls you over get paid per hour? Sounds like a potential for loss if you ask me. - Jesse Stay
via twhirl
It'll take him a lot less than an hour to write your ticket. - Brian Norwood
Amit--if it's me dieing at the hands of a cell phone toting motorist, I'll be sure to leave the proceeds of any post-mortem lawsuit to you..In all seriousness, if hte fear of this stops one fatal accident from happening, what's wrong with that? - mark ivey
Dont forget, it might be only 20 bucks each, but if you have hundreds of people getting pulled over, those start to add up. I think they put it that low to get as many people popped as possible. - Johnny Baker
Brian yeah, but add to that the cost of the gas he used to pull you over, the time he spent waiting to give you the ticket, and the donuts he ate while waiting, I still smell a loss. :-P - Jesse Stay
via twhirl
Well yeah, when you count gas AND donuts..... plus dry cleaning to get the jelly donut stains off his uniform.... - Brian Norwood
Is it true that you can still legally text message and drive? I mean, what the...that's more dangerous if you ask me! What about all the ladies who insist on putting on their face while driving? - paisano
via twhirl
Texting and driving is just flirting with a Darwin Award. I just hope they go into a tree rather than killing some innocent, smarter person who doesn't text and drive. - Brian Norwood
I always wonder about this type of fines: what will the cop do if you fake a phone call with a can of tuna? - Ruud van Wijngaarden
Lots of cities in Texas are enacting laws like this in active school zones. - ha3rvey
We've had this in Ireland for a year or so now and it makes roughly zero difference...roughly. - Elliot Tucker
went into effect a couple of years ago in DC. other than the first month, I've seen no difference. - Apollo Gonzales
..but amazingly, texting is still allowed in CA after tue...they're working to close the loophole - mark ivey
I think its a good idea... I need some external motivation to help me stop the stupidity. In Washington (state), texting was illegal Jan, handsfree goes into effect July. - Leif Hansen
I dont drive , so I walk to the transit stop, which is a little over 1KM. so everyday I do a min of 2KM walk avg. OVerall, most of the time its like 3Km /day of walking , every day for the last 4yrs :)- Keepin in shape da easy way ! - Peter Dawson
More than moderate, more than three times a week. - Julian Baldwin
I do - but only because my shoulder is so messed up from being in an accident and typing all day. - Gina
i try to lift or do cardio at least 3 days a week. more in the winter - Eric Schurr
Aside from walking, like Peter, nothing else and I should be doing something else. @Jeremiah three times a week is a very good number, it's keeps you fit and active without wearing you down. That's what I used to do. - Andrés David Aparicio
via twhirl
I don't want to talk about it. I used to be in pretty decent shape, but getting back into IT has really done it to me. I lost about 30 pounds in two years when I was cooking, but I've gained about 10 of it back in the last two. - ha3rvey
gym 3x/wk, soccer when I can plus frequent walks which involve carrying a toddler on my back. - Nathan Eckenrode

Yeah, I do -- would lose my mind without a bit of movement - Kirk Kittell
Gym 3-5 times a week, plus run 12 flights of stairs 3 times a day every work day. It is not enough though. Just added pushup in my office to my work day routine this week. - RAPatton
A 5-8 km run 3 times a week. I have to do sport, for school - David Adam
I usually try for 5x per week. A combination of cardio and weights, going for overall fitness. Not trying to run a marathon or lift a car off the ground. - steve albers
I do! Have a balance between moderate and intense but work out 6 days a week and have active rest on the 7th. - Karen Swim

You walk a lot in NYC. I once clocked that I walk approx. 4 miles to and from subway stations, home and work. If you keep a good pace, it's not a bad base. - Michael Chin
I try to walk 3 - 4 miles every night. Late nights and rain occasionally stop me, so let's say I get it done 4 nights a week. Could definitely walk more when I'm in NYC, but instead of walking from 40th and 3rd to Penn Station I usually opt to get the LIRR in Long Island City. No walk and 2 stops on the 7 train. - Kevin Shannon
As long as wii fit counts, I do that 30 min a day at least 2-3x/week! - acetone
Me. Running most mornings. I combine Nike+ and GPS tracking to make it bloggable. - Sol Young
I am doing an Ironman August 2nd. So, unfortunately for me, I do very little other than physical activity. - Christopher Sacca
I'm a binge work-outer....I don't do it much, then work out like crazy for 4 days, then go back to my sedentary ways. - Justin Whitaker
I've slowed down this summer but most of the time I'm in the gym 3 - 4 days a week for an 1 hour each. Mixture of elliptical / treadmill / weights. It's hard not to when your significant other is in medical school; I hear horror stories about what could happen if I don't. - Benjamin Golub
I forgot to mention that I'm doing the 100 pushup challenge. Today is day 3 of week 1. - ha3rvey
Just started again with push ups. In the past I walked, before 30 flights of stairs per day. - Russellreno
Err.. yeah. I'm lazy. I do go on walks with my dog 3-4x a week.. - Phil Glockner
Almost exactly 3 times a week, although I'm looking to go to 5 here pretty soon. - Justin Gardner
via twhirl
I go to the rock gym for 2 or 2.5 hours twice a week. I used to ride about 2 miles to the gym, but have lazed out. Similarly I was going to yoga for an hour and a half once a week, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside... :( - felix
@Sol Young - huh! where do you blog that? I'd love to see how that combo looks on the tubes. :) - felix
I do nothing at the moment but I am going to start soon as I feel unfit! - Joe Dawson (beta)

I workout 6 days a week; an hour to hour and a half. But I only resumed last week after a gap of nearly two months. Travel screws up my workout schedule :( - Parth Awasthi
I work out three times a week for an hour each day. I'm a newly admitted Gym Rat. - Stagekid
I do one sit-up every morning, and always make sure I think about exercise once per week. Having said that, I lost 20 kilos last year by dropping gluten out of my diet... no exercise. Lose wheat, lose weight. - Paul R. Grant

I'm only doing one 30 min activity a week and feeling guilty for not doing more. - Larry Kless

4-12 hrs/day walking & dancing when traveling. Here in Ohio, 2-4 hr walk every day with my sis (She's on vacation before starting a full-time job in a month, and studying for her medical boards). If possible, I'd like to do 12-16 dance classes/week, but travel nixed that - lucky if I get 6-10 hrs dance/week. Ideally, I'd have 3-5 gymnastics workouts/week. - Mitchell Tsai
Yes, for quite a while now ... and I wouldn't want to do without it. - Tom Landini
I take LOTS of walks, but nothing "moderate physical"... oops... i'm too tired all the time. - Susan Beebe

I do way more weekly, 30 min 3 x week is minimum recommended only - mike "glemak" dunn
One of my friends had a funny comment in grad school. "I have two sets of friends. One group works out 4-8 hrs/day and the other group sits on couches and drinks beer all day. It's so hard to keep up with both groups." I grew up a skinny geek. Then ended up with people who worked out 4-12 hrs/day (gymnasts, athletes) and considered a 3-4 hr workout relaxing. It's sometimes a weird dichotomy. - Mitchell Tsai
Trying to at least take walks and hike up a hill 3-5 times a week. I also want to get back into swimming and yoga. I dance sometimes, too. - Cathryn Hrudicka
Last time I heard the physical fitness studies - Ten minutes twice a day (instead of 30 min/day), 3X/week gave 60-80% of the benefits of exercising 1-2 hrs 7 days/week. The aerobic benefits of exercising follow a parabolic curve. This info is about 10-15 yrs old. Ten minutes 2/day was as good as 30 min 1/day in the studies. - Mitchell Tsai
Cathryn: If you like, I've got a lot of yoga teacher recommendations for the Bay Area. - Mitchell Tsai
OK here's my theory. Don't live like me. 30 minutes 3x a week is 90 minutes a week. That's 4680 minutes or 78 hrs or 3.25 days a year. So 3.25 days a year times 40 years that's 130 days or a third of a year spent exercising. If you can guarantee that exercising lets me live longer than that for the time, I am in! - Steve Rubel
STeve, u spend 130d across 40yrs, therefore 195d :60yrs, but that investment of 195D actually will increase the aging process to like 70-75Y.. its well worth the investment !! - Peter Dawson
I usually run three times a weeks, 6 mile loops each time. I also ride a bike to work 2.5 miles one way and just got started on the 100 pushups program. So yeah, the myth has been debunked. Tech folks are pretty active it seems. - Tsega Dinka
