Beg Disqus to spend millions to help me track disparate conversations and comments in one place. coComment and co.mments.com only go so far. - Kawika Holbrook
Ditto what Kawika said! - Todd Defren
Scoble, ask: is an *audio* commenting system (aka Utterz) going to be incorporated into Disqus? We're all about the video but, gosh, just as with podcasting, many users may comment on blogs with audio before video. I know I'm one... - Barbara K. Baker
Have a good time at Disqus! - Mitchell Tsai
How about asking them how they compete with FF in the long term? Doesn't it seem to make sense for them to either merge or just compete directly? IMHO neither offering is really "big enough" in the long run. - Jeremy Toeman
Kawika and Todd, I am not sure if that is really on their roadmap. What features were you looking for that coComment and co.mments.com do not do? - Rob Diana
That would be awesome because I couldn't get the FF wordpress plug in to work - Jason Kaneshiro
Question for Disqus: Where are they on comment importing? - Sean Reiser
and *easy* comment exporting... - Bwana
Scoble. I think you and the other heavey A list twitters should jump the twitter ship and just use FF for about a month and see what the impact is. Don't be afraid to do this. It might prove a benefit to eveyone. - facefeed
Using Disqus would be great for comments, I have also been playing with Intense Debate to. I wonder if we could have the option to use Disqus or Intense Debate - Kevin Tunis

I agree with a lot of what Alexander is saying. I don't think traditional banner ads will work well in "social" media. I do think "advertising" can work, but it needs to provide a fair 50-50 value trade between community and advertiser: so advertiser provides true value (free content, entertainment, etc in a non-intrusive and non-obnoxious way) in exchange for the community's attention and energy. And this new advertising can't get in the way or slow people down. And the community has to control it. And it has to be grown organically. Hard yes. Impossible, no. Movie companies (Disney) and folks at Deep Focus are doing things like this. And Crispin Porter Bogusky is great at this too. - Ginger Makela
Ginger, an interesting thought. The reason I could see it work is that it could potentially provide everyone with value. But still, the context needs to be right. You can't get in the way of friends interactions for example - Alexander van Elsas
The future of Internet advertising is user made. The key is to make it interesting and/or entertaining. While viral advertising is currently "working" (I believe, I don't have hard numbers), there will be more and more backlash if people feel like it's not genuine. In comes user generated advertising - paying people to make advertisements that other will enjoy. http://tinyurl.com/ydqnf6 is a great example of this. While this is video, I believe it can translate well to other formats as well. - Vince DeGeorge
Vince viral advertisement may be viral, but in most cases the click through rate for any advertisement is really low. User generate advertisement could well work, but there is definitely a trust issue involved too. For example, if you would be paid to produce or to show advertisement, would your friends like that? Difficult to say, but I doubt getting advertisement from a friend is by any better than from an advertiser. - Alexander van Elsas
Working for a marketing agency I can say that while we all know that social advertising means engaging and fun experiences and not boring banner ads, selling this to a client that is still set in the ways of pure product promotion and solid metrics relating to leads is the difficult part. Social networks/media are where peoples' attention is and therefore there is must be an effective way to advertise in this space. But generic banner ads would be the same as running a magazine ad as a TV commercial. - Devlin Dunsmore
I added my two cents to the discussion here http://www.winextra.com/2008/0... - Steven Hodson
I click on ads at my favorite sites just to help keep them alive. - Alex C. Williams
Alexander, I totally agree about the context needing to be right, and that advertising can't get in the way of people interacting with their friends. Seth Godin had a video on his site a few weeks ago that summed this up really well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... Advertisers will have to figure out how to be a player in white. - Ginger Makela
Alex, that 'll be a whole lot of clicking you need to do to keep em alive ;-) - Alexander van Elsas
