I hope a "soldier of Allah" business card is not a treasonable offense. Why? Self-interest.
I am a member of a church congregation that has sung "Onward Christian Soldiers." If "soldier of Allah" is considered treason, then our entire congregation should be convicted. - John E. Bredehoft
Don't the hyper fundemental southern shiite christian faiths still sing "Onward Christian Soldiers"? Seems the same to me. - Matthew DeVries
Plus, consider the fact that my church believes in the end of the world, which pretty much means the end of the United States of America. If that isn't treason, I don't know what is. - John E. Bredehoft
Matthew, my church isn't southern (although it is in southern California), but it is on the conservative end of the spectrum. I knew of one Christian church who refused to sing the song, publicly stating that it was because they couldn't find scriptural support for it. - John E. Bredehoft
If you're puzzled by the business card reference, here's the story from ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter... "United States Army Major Nidal Hasan proclaimed himself a "soldier of Allah" on private business cards he obtained over the Internet and kept in a box at his apartment near Fort Hood, Texas." - John E. Bredehoft
Oh, and if you want to talk about service oriented architecture, be prepared for prison time. "SoA is commonly used on jihadist Web sites as the acronym for Soldier of Allah, according to investigators and experts who have studied such sites." - John E. Bredehoft
I'd think that is more of a joke card then anything. Much like if I made up a Business card that said F.B.I. Female Boobie Investigator. Not everything is the negative meaning of the words. - CW™
Hmm... when I see SOA I think Service Oriented Architecture... Glad to know I probably shouldn't be throwing that acronym around in mixed circles. - Lindsay is in 20-ten
*sigh* - Bahriye
A picture of the business card can be found here http://community.comcast.net/comcast... The contact number is a 301 area code number, which would be the Walter Reed area rather than the Fort Hood area. However, maybe that's a cell phone number, and he didn't bother to change the area code when he moved to Texas. - John E. Bredehoft
As for "Onward Christian Soldiers", does your church sing it as a mantra or just because it's in your hymnal? There's probably something to be said for intent as to whether or not it's something other people should be concerned about. - Lindsay is in 20-ten
I personally interpret the song as signifying a "war on Satan," but not necessarily in the physical military sense. In other words, using the same sense as the phrases "war on poverty" or "war on drugs." Neither Lyndon Johnson nor Nancy Reagan were brandishing guns during those wars. - John E. Bredehoft
ok dear ameri-fags: BOOOO. are you scared nao? stop being cowards. meh. - Bahriye
