The Social Media Burden - http://www.scribkin.com/2008...
I do use LinkedIn because it's good networking. I use FriendFeed and Twitter (but the majority of my twitter is all mobile). Lately I've been an addict to Geeks.Pirillo.com but I hate mySpace, Facebook and most other networks. It's your website, your blog and your platform. Change it, move it and mold it to reflect who you are. - Candace
Thanks Candace. I've been avoiding geeks.pirillo to be honest -- whenever people get really super extra excited about something my first reaction is to be suspicious of it! - Phil G
Great article, Phil: the first half was as if you were describing me and my curmudgeonry. The same rules apply to both online and offline relationships, and the extroverted, outgoing people are always going to have a leg up. It's interesting the paradoxical nature of social media, though: other social norms, like real names, are far less applied. - Mark Trapp
Honestly? I avoided it like a plague. Another MySpace/Facbook type network. DO NOT WANT! But...I got convinced to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. It's a very small network of just a few thousand people. Leave the kids on the forums alone and hit the groups. You'll find your own. It's a fabulous little place. - Candace
Fantastic summary of the downside to social media. Looking forward to your future posts. - Corvida
Mark, I'm happy to know I'm not alone! I was trying hard not to wander into TMI territory with that article. Corvida - Thanks for the comment! You are the best! - Phil G
