"The Guardian reports that Nokia is planning a touchscreen mobile phone that runs Google’s Android operating system and the handset maker will likely show off the device at the Nokia World conference in September 2009." - LANjackal from Bookmarklet
I think they will. Nokia, like Motorola & Sony Ericsson, have pretty much fallen off the map with the rise of RIM, Android and the iPhone - LANjackal
@LANjackal -- I very much hope not, since I have used Nokia phones since the 1990s and continue to do so. I hope not about the fallen off the map thing. Not about the switch to Android. I hope they do that. - Miss Elle
Would you really say Nokia's smartphone OS is on par with the competition though? I know as a former Nokia user the loyalty their UI engenders in users. Once you know how to use 1 Nokia, you know how to use them all. But there's no denying that they've fallen off in terms of mindshare. The last time I saw a Nokia in the wild, I was in the Caribbean. Not kidding. - LANjackal
I say yes. Once I really learned how to use it (who knew that the O looking thing was a start menu?) then I learned to use my smartphone to multitask and was easily able to switch back and forth between running tasks. The iPhone cannot do that. The blackberry and Palm are the only ones who also can multitask. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the lack of apps for the symbian s60 platform, but that isn't Nokia's fault. I do love that I can use all of my google apps on it, though. And I wouldn't mind a rolly-ball like Blackberrys have. - Miss Elle
I saw the denial, but if the N97 flagship gets more bad reviews like the mauling it received over at Gizmodo, Nokia'll might be forced into the Android camp. It happened to Motorola. - LANjackal
