"In 1997, Charles Moore — surfer, scientific researcher, and sea captain — was the first to cross upon an enormous stretch of floating plastic debris now called the “Pacific garbage patch.” The patch, also described as the “Pacific trash vortex,” is an area in the North-Central Pacific where tiny bits of trash, together weighing as much as 100 million tons, have been trapped by the currents of the North Pacific Gyre. In talking to Captain Moore, it becomes clear that the pollution of our oceans, epitomized by the patch’s toxic stew of plastic particles, is actually a land-based problem. To Moore, what drives the market and what runs off the street into our oceans are part of the same problem."

They should run tours out there, with the proceeds going to raise awareness.

"Have you ever been to a restaurant where you can decide how much you want to pay for the cost of your meal? It may sound like a recipe for certain failure, but that’s how a handful of restaurants around the world operate, including Denver, Colorado’s So All May Eat (SAME) Café. At the Denver eatery, wealthy diners rub elbows with the homeless, all taking the time to enjoy the café’s delicious organic cuisine. There are no set prices for anything on the menu—instead, diners simply pay whatever they can afford to for the meal."

There's a set-your-own-price cafe in a Seattle suburb, but I never made it out to try it.

A lot of folks have an idea that quilters are just a bunch of dowdy old ladies, stitching away and clucking the latest rumor. Not so! Most of us have an overactive sense of humor and a drive to help any number of causes via our talents. The Quilters of South Carolina are typical and have created one-of-a-kind bras for Breast Cancer Awareness. The exhibit consists of 49 original works of art which are unique, entertaining, humorous, and beautiful to make the public aware of breast cancer, to memorialize those lost to the disease, and to honor survivors.

The song is sweet and features gorgeous photos from the past linked with images from the present. My favorite part of the election and the inauguration is the sight of so many people with tears of joy running down their faces. When has there ever been an election with such excitement, hope, and such open emotion? I am so proud to be an American.

When I was a kid in the 1950s I was considered exotic and strange, and perhaps a bit pitiable and not quite proper, in that my family was Jewish Catholic, Hungarian Mexican Irish.....and now the world has passed me like I'm standing still. Thank Goodness!

YouTube - Pete Seeger & Bruce Springsteen - "This Land is Your Land" - The Obama Inaugural Celebration Concert - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
It's moving to hear Pete in the biggest singalong ever including all the verses, not just the "feel good" ones (like the long-suppressed "private property" and the often-blipped people lined up at the relief office). To paraphrase Lee Hayes, "Isn't this a time!" - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
"I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightened sexual attractiveness and a better sense of humor. A recent long-term study conducted in Scandinavia sought to discover which activities related to a healthy and happy later life. Three stood out: camping, dancing and singing."

Great idea! I think I know some good camp counselors.

If the Democrats simply recited the simple facts of these "5 Myths About John McCain" then they would be accused of negative and unfair tactics.

"In our dogs, we see ourselves. Dogs exhibit almost all of our emotions; if you think a dog cannot register envy or pity or pride or melancholia, you have never lived with one for any length of time. What dogs lack is our ability to dissimulate. They wear their emotions nakedly, and so, in watching them, we see ourselves as we would be if we were stripped of posture and pretense."

The song of the Sun sounds very buddhist to me. And the sound of the globular cluster sounds "incipient" or full of portent. I need to use these tracks to make mixes on www.Jamglue.com.

Wow, jamglue! That sounds like a really cool website.

Union Leader Confronts Racism For anybody who doubts that this campaign is doing something important in America, watch this white union leader speak about racism to his membership (and watch the reaction of the crowd). It is, quite simply, astonishing
