Introducing the official poster for the 67th Cannes Film Festival. This year's poster art features Guido in his sunglasses from Federico Fellini's classic film 8½ awash in gold and adorned with Cannes text and logos. It's an outstanding poster for one of the best film festivals in the entire world, and we're excited to debut this just ahead of the official line-up later this week. "The way he looks at us above his black glasses draws us right in to a promise of global cinematographic happiness," explains the poster's designer. "The happiness of experiencing the Festival de Cannes together." Indeed. There's nothing like this film festival. Here's the official poster for Cannes 2014, from Cannes. Designed by Hervé Chigioni and Gilles Frappier. Federico Fellini's 8½ premiered in Cannes in the official selection in 1963. "In Marcello Mastroianni and Federico Fellini, we celebrate a cinema that is free and open to the world, acknowledging once again the artistic importance of Italian and...

Must Watch: Ben Affleck in David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' First Trailer - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Following a pretty chilling first look at the thriller Gone Girl, based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel of the same name, the first trailer for the adaptation from The Social Network director David Fincher has arrived. The film tells the story of a woman (Rosamund Pike) who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary, with all the evidence pointing to her husband Nick (Ben Affleck). And even though the film is based on the book, readers will have a surprise because Flynn wrote a new ending for the film. From the looks of this trailer, Fincher has another fantastic thriller on his hands, and we can't wait to see it. Watch! Here's the first trailer for David Fincher's adaptation of Gone Girl from YouTube: And here's the stylish teaser poster that doesn't even include the title (via Digital Spy): Gone Girl is directed by David Fincher (of Seven, The Game, Fight Club, Zodiac, Panic Room, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, ...

Helen Mirren Joins Bryan Cranston in Period Showbiz Drama 'Trumbo' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
If you think Trumbo is some kind of sequel to the Disney animated classic Dumbo, then clearly you missed our story last fall about "Breaking Bad" Bryan Cranston starring in the film based on the true story of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted and sent to prison during the Red Scare when the House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC) was questioning Hollywood talents about Communist ties. As much as we'd love to see Cranston play a cartoon elephant, you'll have to settle for his work as a tiger in Madagascar 3. Now Variety reports he has a co-star with Helen Mirren taking the part of his wife Cleo. After Trumbo was release from prison, he fought the fear-mongering system of HUAC, and even still managed to write films like Gun Crazy and Spartacus for the big screen, albeit under pseudonyms. The writer even won two Oscars, one which was given to him posthumously for his work on Roman Holiday, originally credited ...

Watch: First Promo Trailer for David Cronenberg's 'Maps to the Stars' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"Do you understand - it's all ending now." Wow. eOne Films has unveiled the first official trailer for David Cronenberg's new film, titled Maps to the Stars, starring the young Mia Wasikowska as Agatha in the lead role, as well as a very talented, recognizable cast: Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Olivia Williams, Sarah Gadon and Robert Pattinson. This new film is said to be a "complex look at Hollywood and what it reveals about Western culture" but this trailer plays almost like Lynch's Mulholland Dr. meets Coppola's Somewhere more than a meta look at Hollywood. But I like the mood in this much more than Cronenberg's last film, Cosmopolis from 2012, and I'm curious to see what his Maps to the Stars is all about. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer for David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars, found via YouTube: The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Stafford (Cusack) is an analyst and coach, who has made ...

Harrison Ford's Reddit AMA Bits: 'Blade Runner 2', Han, Indy & More - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
From James Cameron to Harrison Ford, they're getting everyone on Reddit. Over the weekend the other big Reddit AMA (aka Ask Me Anything) participant was legendary actor Harrison Ford, best known as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Rick Deckard, Jack Ryan, President James Marshall, Colonel Graff. He explains that he was recently a "correspondent for Years of Living Dangerously, a new Showtime docuseries about climate change," and answered a number of fan questions for an hour. He covers topics on Blade Runner, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, even Anchorman, Expendables, and plenty more. Recap his highlights below. Though he has been a bit odd at in-person appearances recently, Harrison Ford's responses here seem clear and concise. These are some of his best answers. To start: "Who did you prefer portraying, Han or Indiana?" I think Indiana Jones was a lot of fun to do because of the places we went to and the adventures and the action. But Han Solo was also a huge ...

'Star Trek 3' Writers Are Working on New Version of 'Flash Gordon'? - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
When the comedy Ted hit theaters in 2012, we got a taste of Flash Gordon all over again, albeit in the form of coked up 80s film star Sam Jones. But now it looks like the hero who was given his own sci-fi film and turned into a cult classic (with a catch theme song from Queen) will be given a facelift for an all-new adaptation on the big screen. Over the years, there have been a few attempts to rework Flash Gordon, and now another try is coming together with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the duo behind the script for Star Trek 3, developing the hopeful project that is currently striking a deal for studio home. More below! Payne and McKay are relatively unknown writers, but they've gotten work after writing an adaptation of Boilerplate for Bad Robot and also a stylistic take on the Biblical tale of Goliath. None of their scripts have been turned into feature films ...

Brad Pitt to Lead David Michod's Modern War Drama 'The Operators' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
After starring in World War Z, superstar Brad Pitt seems to be interested in a lot of other war projects. After starring in Inglourious Basterds a few years ago, Pitt returns to World War II in David Ayer's tank squad drama Fury, and the actor is also interested in a new untitled project from Eastern Promises writer Steven Knight in the same time period. Now Variety has word that Pitt is looking to venture into modern warfare, in an adaptation of the non-fiction book The Operators, which tells the story of the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Here's the official synopsis of the 2012 book by Michael Hastings on which the film will be based: In the shadow of the hunt for Bin Laden and the United States’ involvement in the Middle East, General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan, was living large. Philip Seymour Hoffman Struggles in First Trailer for 'God's Pocket' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
At the end of last week, the first trailer for A Most Wanted Man debuted, which sadly turned into one of the two final performances from the late Philip Seymour Hoffman that also debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival (there's also The Hunger Games: Mockingjay coming up). Now the first trailer for God's Pocket has arrived, featuring his other stirring lead performance. The film wasn't one of our favorites from Sundance since it ambitiously goes for a dark comedy vibe akin to Coen Brothers, but stumbles in staying in the right tone. Still, the performances are great and John Slattery shows promise as a director. Watch it! Here's the first trailer for John Slattery's God's Pocket, originally from Apple: God's Pocket is directed by John Slattery (series regular and occasional director on "Mad Men"), who also co-wrote the script with Peter Dexter & Alex Metcalf. First Look: Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac in Sci-Fi 'Ex Machina' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Though Dredd may not have fared as well as some hoped, writer Alex Garland is set to redeem himself by taking a turn directing with the sci-fi flick Ex Machina. Garland behind the scripts for Never Let Me Go, Sunshine and 28 Days Later, all unique films with great stories. As for Ex Machina, this one follows a love triangle between two men and a beautiful robot girl. That's definitely unlike anything we've seen before, and now we have a first look at the film with stars Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time). No sign of the robot girl (Alicia Vikander) just yet, but we're certainly intrigued. Watch: Conan O'Brien's 50 Celebrity Cameos from MTV Movie Awards - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
No one really cares about the MTV Movie Awards, at least not as real awards, but the event still gathers a who's who of big name celebrities trying to appeal to the younger demographics. Thankfully, the even is usually pretty fun, and this year it was helped by Conan O'Brien as host. And instead of opening the show by making reference to a bunch of big summer movies and whatnot, he decided to set a record for most celebrity cameos in the opening of the awards show. They're all pretty random and range from comedy stars like Ed Helms and Danny McBride to recent Oscar winners like Lupita Nyong'o and more. Watch it! First Trailer for Tommy Lee Jones' Western Drama 'The Homesman' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
The 2014 Cannes Film Festival is next month, and we'll definitely have some coverage from the overseas celebration of cinema when the time comes. As the festival gets closer, more and more films are being hinted at for a premiere in France (though Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu's Birdman with Michael Keaton won't be one of them). One film that is expected to debut at Cannes is The Homesman, which is written, produced, directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones, and a trailer has arrived.. First TV Spot for '22 Jump Steet Puts Tatum & Hill Deep Undercover - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Along with last night's barrage of TV spots for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Edge of Tomorrow, Hercules and A Million Ways to Die in the West, there's one more TV spot for what could be the biggest comedy of the summer: 22 Jump Street. The TV spot doesn't feature much footage from the latest red band trailer, but it does include the new ending from the previous green band trailer, not to mention some other funny new bits featuring our duo on spring break. Benedict Cumberbatch Won't Be in 'Star Wars: Episode VII' After All - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
After being rumored, debunked and reaffirmed, it appears Benedict Cumberbatch won't be taking a role in Star Wars: Episode VII after all. The actor's name first surfaced last fall, but the actor completely debunked those rumors while appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. But the source of the rumor reaffirmed their story a couple weeks later when they reported Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, The Grand Budapest Hotel) had auditioned for a role. But now Cumberbatch says that he will not be in the film, but seemingly confirms that he was in the running for a role, at least at one time. More below! Speaking with Australian outlet The Iris (via ComingSoon), Cumberbatch revealed: "I would've liked a part in JJ's new 'Star Wars' but it won't happen sadly." It sounds like Cumberbatch definitely talked to his Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams about a role, but either scheduling or preference for another actor didn't turn out favorably for ...

Indie Trailer Sunday: Audrey Tautou in French Comedy 'Chinese Puzzle' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"It's funny that you find life so complicated." Today's indie trailer is for a film called Chinese Puzzle, or Casse-tête chinois in French, another third film in a charming romantic comedy trilogy about a couple and their lives over the years. Iñárritu's 'Birdman' Starring Michael Keaton Set to Open in October - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Briefly: Fox Searchlight has announced a release date for Alejandro G. Iñárritu's Birdman, a Broadway stage drama about a fading actor starring Michael Keaton (seen above), for early in awards season 2014. Birdman will open in select theaters starting October 17th, 2014 this fall; a similar release date slot was used by Searchlight to debut 12 Years a Slave last year, and that went all the way to win Best Picture. Not saying that Birdman has that chance as we haven't seen much yet, but it will be something to behold anyway - with Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki behind the long-take cinematography. Also in the cast: Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, with Naomi Watts. Birdman, co-written & directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (of Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful), has been described as a dark comedy. Sounds Like Johnny Depp is in Kevin Smith's New Film 'Tusk' After All - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
This should definitely perk up some ears. After hearing rumors for months, it looks like it might actually be true - Johnny Depp is appearing in Kevin Smith's new "horror" film Tusk. Depp is apparently playing the role of a detective assigned to the case in the movie, and has a smaller role investigating the incidents, hence why he was cast late and quietly filmed without anyone knowing. This latest casting tidbit comes directly from Justin Long, who also appears in Tusk, in an interview a few weeks ago most recently scooped up by The Wrap. He mentions, at least in their transcript, quite simply: "Johnny Depp is in that one." There we go. I had first heard someone tell me that Johnny Depp was the other casting addition to Tusk back in January. And that Kevin Smith was waiting for time in his schedule to get everything shot and thus didn't want to rush to finish the film. But no ...

It's Not Over Yet: Michael Bay Promises Another 'Transformers' Trilogy - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
For better or worse, more Transformers movies are on the way. At least three more of them. As pretty much everyone completely and totally expected, Michael Bay has revealed via an Entertainment Weekly interview that this one is the first in another new trilogy of Transformers movies. There's a brand new cast this time, new 'bots, a new storyline, of course it's the start of a new trilogy. Would we expect anything less? I think not. Then again, this is about gaining new fans moving ahead in the series. In the interview with EW, Bay revealed the news and spoke a bit about the storyline in Transformers 4, or Age of Extinction (see the teaser), which involves the Dinobots and all kinds of other characters. He says: "It's kind of like a new Transformers," Bay says. "We had three, the first trilogy, ...

Watch: 'The Giver' Movie Featurette Asks 'What If?' with Lois Lowry - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"Where to begin?" TWC has debuted a new featurette for the upcoming adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver, being directed by Phillip Noyce. This beloved, Newbery Medal-winning novel is finally being adapted into a movie this year, with Jeff Bridges producing and playing The Giver, and up-and-comer Brenton Thwaites as Jonas. We already seen the first trailer, but one of the complaints was that it was all footage in color. In this featurette, the author herself, Lois Lowry, and the filmmakers address the issue head on by asking "what if?" in a cinematic context and answering: yes, there will be a few scenes in black & white. Including one shown in this featurette - which is a very key scene from the story that fans should recognize. Baz Luhrmann May Direct a Big Screen Reboot of 70's Show 'Kung Fu' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Wait - does that sound right? Baz Luhrmann and Kung Fu? Well, this is certainly something interesting to talk about. THR is reporting that Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann is now in talks to direct a big screen reboot, or a re-adaptation, of the 1970s martial arts western TV show Kung Fu, which starred David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine. Luhrmann most recently brought an extravagant, music-filled adaptation of The Great Gatsby to the big screen last summer, and it sounds like this may be next for him at Legendary Pictures if things come together. The deal isn't finalized, but could be a chance for Luhrmann to branch out. The project, with no other title other than Kung Fu so far, comes with a script by Rich Wilkes (of Airheads, xXx Trilogy, Punk Like Me, Iron Fist). In development at Legendary Pictures, the "big-screen adaptation" is one of the many projects they've launched that involves, and will shoot in, China. THR adds ...

Philip Seymour Hoffman Hunts Spies in 'A Most Wanted Man' Trailer - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Following a premiere at Sundance in January, the spy thriller A Most Wanted Man is heading to theaters this summer, marking one of the final performances from the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
