Comic-Con 2014: 'Maze Runner' Sequel 'Scorch Trials' Concept Art - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Though audiences won't get a chance to see The Maze Runner until September, director Wes Ball revealed at Comic-Con that development of the sequel The Scorch Trials is already underway with an eye towards shooting at the end of the year, at least if the first film turns out to be a hit. The footage shown off in Hall H, which included a new trailer and a scene where lead character Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) was chased by a creature called a Griever, was thoroughly impressive, and it looks like an intense action adventure. And as a tease for where this franchise could go, a piece of concept art was revealed. Look now! Here's the concept art for The Maze Runner sequel The Scorch Trials from Comic-Con: Concept art for THE MAZE RUNNER sequel THE SCORCH TRIALS: pic.twitter.com/OgH2QCT2w5— Ethan Anderton (@Ethan_Anderton) July 25, 2014 And if you need to be convinced to see another dystopian sci-fi feature based on a young adult novel, note ...

Comic-Con 2014: Samsung 'Mockingjay' Experience + Teaser Debut - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
To promote the upcoming (epic) two-part finale of The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay Part 1 & 2, at Comic-Con 2014, Lionsgate has built a massive Hunger Games "Samsung Experience". The interactive event is designed for fans to customize their own swag, delve into the universe more, see some new footage and promo material for Mockingjay, ending with a special teaser trailer debut exclusive to Comic-Con (it will be online Monday). It's a big promotion partnered with Samsung (we covered details here) meaning fans get to watch the teaser trailer on a Samsung tablet, which is amusing, but to us it's all about the movie. The "Samsung Experience" features multiple stations for fans to participate in: Peeta's Bakery (with real food), Haymitch's Elixirs, a Capitol Hologram photo booth, the t-shirt design station, a "Capitol Quiz" which organizes fans into Districts, a Milk Music/Samsung battery swap station, and the Presidential Address. The last stop on the tour (after picking up the...

Watch: Daniel Radcliffe Gets Devilish in First US Trailer for 'Horns' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Anyone who has been worried about Daniel Radcliffe shedding his Harry Potter image will have their concerns washed away. Or more accurately, they'll be scorched from the Earth as the British actor throws on a grizzly American accent and a pair of devilish accessories in Horns, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Joe Hill, son of master of suspense Stephen King. Radcliffe seems incredible in this film that has a truly twisted sense of humor and an interesting mystery at the center as Radcliffe plays a man trying to figure out who killed his girlfriend (Juno Temple) as he causes chaos in a North Pacific town. Watch it! Here's the first US trailer for Alexandre Aja's Horns, originally from MTV: Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D) directs Horns with a script from Keith Bunin ("In Treatment") based on Joe Hill's novel of the same name. The story follows a 26-year-old man (Daniel Radcliffe) who wakes up after a nasty hangover ...

James Gunn Already Set to Write & Direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
This news isn't entirely official since Marvel hasn't even announced a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy just yet, but if the buzz on the film leading up to its release next week is any indicator, the comic book studio has another franchise hit on their hands. Now The Wrap has learned that James Gunn will return to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and that's an announcement that will probably be made at the Marvel panel tomorrow here at Comic-Con. Gunn's co-writer Nicole Perlman said, "James will be directing Guardians 2, so he would also be writing Guardians 2.” So that sounds like a sure thing. Perlman also said, "They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction. Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and  people are excited about it, they'll wanna do a sequel. ...

Comic-Con 2014: Loki's Staff & Black Widow's Bike at Marvel Booth - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
The excitement just keeps growing for whatever Marvel has in store for their panel tomorrow evening here at Comic-Con in San Diego, and while we're sure that we'll be getting footage from The Avengers: Age of Ultron, there's no guarantee of what else to expect. Will Joaquin Phoenix be on hand to be officially named Doctor Strange or will someone else take the role? What are all of Marvel's future mystery projects set through 2019 or their recent 2018 date? What we do know is a couple of goodies have appeared at the Marvel booth. Today, the comic book studio unveiled Black Widow's new motorcycle, a prototype from Harley-Davidson called Project LiveWire, and a familiar weapon from a mischievous bad guy. Look below! Here's some tweets revealing some of the new stuff at the Marvel booth: Well, look what we found at the #MarvelSDCC booth! Got to beef up the security just in case #Loki finds out... pic.twitter.com/yhYDNKqNgB— Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) July ...

Edgar Wright Ditches 'Ant-Man' for Young Adult 'Grasshopper Jungle' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Though director Edgar Wright may have left Marvel's Ant-Man behind, he found another project with an insect title to replace it. Deadline has word that in addition to making Baby Driver his next project at Working Title, he's also been hired by Sony Pictures to direct an adaptation of Andrew Smith Dutton's young adult novel Grasshopper Jungle. And the story sounds like the perfect young adult story for Wright to bring to the big screen as it's a coming-of-age tale with a sci-fi twist as it follows a teenager in Iowa dealing with hormones and sexual frustration who suddenly have to deal with an army of giant insects. More specifically, he and his friends have to fight a plague of six-foot tall praying mantises who are described in the official synopsis as hungry and horny. The description of the book also says, "Funny, intense, complex, and brave, Grasshopper Jungle brilliantly weaves together everything from testicle-dissolving genetically modified corn to the struggles ...

See the Mission Patch from 'Interstellar' Given Out at Comic-Con - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
We don't officially have a category for "swag", but this falls into that classification. As a big space nerd and sci-fi lover, I can't help but share this nifty bit of swag from Comic-Con that I picked up today. During the Paramount panel yesterday, where they surprised fans in Hall H by bringing out Interstellar director Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey (read our full recap of that panel), the studio handed out tickets to be redeemed for a "prize". That prize? The mission patch from Interstellar, for the "Endurance" Space Exploration mission. It's small piece of swag, it's nerdy, but it's also kind of awesome. In full below. Here's the mission patch that was handed as a prize for those who were at Paramount's Comic-Con panel. Recap our coverage of Interstellar at Comic-Con here, including quotes from Nolan and McConaughey. Interstellar is directed by British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, of the films Doodlebug, Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The...

Review: 'Primer' Meets 'Chronicle' in Found Footage 'Project Almanac' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
What would happen if you found a time machine when you were in high school. What would you change? How would you use it? And what would be the ramifications of its use? These are some of the questions that a new film called Project Almanac tries to address. Following in the footsteps of the found footage film Chronicle, this film has a similar style and feel, but is about a group of teens who discover plans for a time travel device and put it together on their own (like Primer). They start testing it, using it, and improving its powers, until everything starts to go wrong. It's a blast, an original and energetic creation with a few issues. The film, originally titled Almanac, then retitled Welcome to Yesterday with an original release date early this year, was then retitled back to Project Almanac and pushed back until early 2015. Paramount's micro-budget division Insurge Pictures developed the film and the first ...

Joaquin Phoenix in Consideration to Lead Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Everyone is eagerly awaiting the Marvel panel this Saturday at Comic-Con, but it sounds like some news might be leaking a little early. The Wrap reports that Walk the Line and The Master star Joaquin Phoenix has been mentioned over and over again for the role and that the actor is currently in consideration and may already be in discussion for the film. He was once wanted for a role in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, specifically the role of Lex Luthor, so it seems like he's keen to take on a comic book role of some sort, and a character like Doctor Strange seems like a perfect fit for the gifted and sometimes odd actor. Lending some credence to this report is this tweet pointed out by The Wrap: One of the comic book stores in CT had Joaquin Phoenix stop by. He was looking for Dr. Strange comics.— Kevin. (@KevinInChains) July 18, 2014 Phoenix would be a huge get ...

First Look: Rupert Friend is Double Armed & Dangerous in 'Agent 47' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Later today we'll get to see some footage from 20th Century Fox's franchise sequel Hitman: Agent 47 during the studio's Comic-Con panel in Hall H. This time it's not Timothy Olyphant in the role, but rather Rupert Friend as the bald, genetically engineered assassin from the video game series of the same name. There are no story details just yet, but we do have some first look photos of Friend in action with co-star Hannah Ware as Katia van Dees. But as of now, no sign of Zachary Quinto in the film. We're not excited about the film yet, especially with a February 2015 release, but maybe some good footage can convince us. Here's the first look photos from Aleksander Bach's Hitman: Agent 47 from 20th Century Fox: Hitman: Agent 47 is directed by Aleksander Bach, making his feature directorial debut with a script from Kyle Ward (Machete Kills), Skip Woods (The A-Team) and Michael Finch (Predators). 'The Death of Superman Lives' Trailer Explores Tim Burton's Failure - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Anyone who loves Superman knows that director Tim Burton almost followed up his successful adaptation of Batman by bringing The Big Blue Boy Scout to the big screen as well. Nicolas Cage was once meant to play the superhero with a script from fanboy favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith. It was a weird production with the likes of Chris Rock playing Jimmy Olsen and Kevin Spacey once on board as Lex Luthor, way before Superman Returns came knocking at his door for the same role. Now the documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? (which we featured as a Kickstarter film in the beginning of 2013) explores what went wrong with the film, and we have the first trailer. Watch it below! Here's the first trailer for The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? from Jon Schnepp: The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? is directed by Jon Schnepp and explores the failed production of a Superman film that was supposed to be ...

Hawkeye, Quicksilver & Vision Get 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Posters - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Following The Avengers: Age of Ultron concept art posters for Iron Man and Scarlet Witch on the first day of Comic-Con and two more with Captain America and Black Widow, yet another two posters have revealed Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The speedster looks pretty wild-eyed as he speeds around fighting Ultron's robot army, while Hawkeye is relegated to hand-to-hand combat instead of his bow and arrow. But what's really cool is our first look at Vision (Paul Bettany) flying in the background of Quicksilver's poster, so it seems he'll have a big part of this battle. Here's the two new concept art posters for The Avengers: Age of Ultron from Marvel: The Avengers: Age of Ultron is written & directed by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Serenity). Earth's mightiest heroes must once again assemble when a super intelligent robot created by Tony Stark created to help fight any threats that might harm the world actually turns against him and the ...

First Look: 'SpongeBob' Becomes a Live-Action Superhero in Sequel - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
During the Paramount Pictures panel at Comic-Con, where Christopher Nolan made his Hall H debut with Interstellar, we were also given a first look at a film on the completely opposite end of the spectrum: SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water. While this isn't a film we're particularly excited about, the footage shown at Comic-Con was so weird, even by normal "SpongeBob SquarePants" standards. SpongeBob and his friends end up heading into the real world, but in the form of Avengers style superheroes. But they're in a very lifelike computer animated form, and it makes for a strange aesthetic. Here's the first photo from SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water from Paramount: The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is directed by Paul Tibbit (writer and producer of the "SpongeBob SquarePants" animated series) and written by Kung Fu Panda 2 writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. In the film, SpongeBob SquarePants, the world's favorite sea dwelling invertebrate, comes ashore to...

Comic-Con 2014: Nolan & McConaughey Tease 'Interstellar' Journey - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"Rage, rage against the dying of the light." The eagle has landed. Paramount Pictures' panel inside the legendary Hall H at Comic-Con 2014 today ended with an epic discussion on Interstellar, a surprise to everyone as the studio brought along Oscar winning star Matthew McConaughey and the man himself, Christopher Nolan. Both are first time Comic-Con attendees, making an appearance at this geek mecca to promote the sci-fi epic that many of us are already anxiously anticipating (see the latest trailer). To top it off, they shared the incredible, brand new trailer with those in Hall H, and it will be online sometime soon. "The thrill of making a large scale science fiction film has to be about the experience of the audience," Nolan said, discussing his inspirations and desires to make this movie next. Nolan's Interstellar is a science fiction epic about a wormhole discovered in our galaxy that we hope will take us, humanity, to another galaxy. So, we ...

Review: Luc Besson's 'Lucy' Wastes Big Ideas on Blockbuster Action - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Whether suiting up as Black Widow or luring oafish, young men to their otherworldly demise in Under the Skin, or wrangling Joaquin Phoenix with her voice alone in Her, Scarlett Johansson appears to be the ideal choice to play the next-level woman, a female character made supernatural with all the powers she beholds. So thank goodness writer/director Luc Besson has her front and center in Lucy, his latest sci-fi, evolutionary actioner that promises to blow your mind as well as your entertainment meter. Without Johansson, the film would slip by as pretty thin on both excitement and existentialism. Thankfully, Lucy doesn't fail in either department, but the frustration that the whole, messy ordeal leaves behind is far too noticable. Not quite as noticable as someone as stunning and talented as Johansson, but it's there. Read on! The stunning lead plays, you guessed it, Lucy, your typical 20-something trying to survive to party another night in Taiwan. But Lucy's YOLO days are at an end...

'Hot Tub Time Machine 2' Red Band Trailer is Just Like 'Terminator' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"Why mess with a winning formula?" Paramount Pictures surprised everyone with the first footage of their comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2, which arrives just in time for everyone to catch the family friendly comedy at Christmas. But seriously, don't watch this with your family, and don't watch the first red band trailer with them either. We get to see what Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke are up to now that they have knowledge of the future, and the murder of Corddry's internet mogul character sets them off on another time traveling adventure to the future, the past and much more. Looks like a lot of fun with a feel that is almost like a raunchy version of It's a Wonderful Life for the holiday season. Watch now! Here's the first red band trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine 2 from IGN: Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is directed by Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine, About Last Night) ...
