Samuel L. Jackson Back with Tarantino for 'Hateful Eight' Live-Read - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Briefly: This month we learned that Quentin Tarantino would give a small audience the chance to see his delayed western The Hateful Eight come to life in the form of a live-reading of the script at at LACMA on April 24th. Tarantino was also said to be directing and picking the cast for this special event that will not be recorded or broadcast to the public, and Deadline has confirmed (complete with a tweet from Film Independent) that Samuel L. Jackson will yet again collaborate with his Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained director for some sort of role in the reading. We're not sure who else might pop up, but stay tuned for more. Reporting on this event is about as close as we'll get to being in attendance, so stay tuned.

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Yesterday Dr. Will Caster was only human. Today he is... everywhere. Now playing in theaters is Transcendence, the feature directing debut of cinematography Wally Pfister, a sci-fi thriller about artificial intelligence in this modern day and age. Johnny Depp stars along with Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman and Clifton Collins Jr. So how is it? Does it live up to expectations? What do you make of the final half and the way it ends? If you've seen it, leave a comment below with your own thoughts about Wally Pfister's Transcendence. Spoiler Warning: We strongly urge everyone to actually see the film before reading ahead, as there may be spoilers below. Watch: Full Trailer for HBO's 'The Normal Heart' Starring Mark Ruffalo - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
"This seems to only be happening to gay men." Coming next month is one of those films that HBO makes that seems to belong on the big screen, but is hitting cable instead. The Normal Heart is directed by "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and follows Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks, a man who witnesses first-hand the mysterious disease that became known as AIDS as it claims the lives of many in his gay community. Weeks is looking for answers with the help of Dr. Emma Brookner (Julia Roberts), a paraplegic physician who treats several of the earliest victims. Now a full trailer has arrived, and this looks fantastic. Watch now! Here's the full trailer for Ryan Murhpy's The Normal Heart straight from HBO: The Normal Heart is directed by Ryan Murhpy ("Glee" and "The New Normal") and written by Larry Kramer, based on his own Tony Award-winning stage play of the same name. 'Glengarry Glen Ross' Has New Life in 'Wolf of Wall Street' Style Trailer - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
In case you didn't know, The Wolf of Wall Street is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD, so if three hours in a movie theater was just too much to enjoy this Martin Scorsese directed masterpiece (my favorite film of 2013), now you can enjoy in the comfort of your home. Previously, we highlighted a great trailer mash-up that turned It's a Wonderful Life into The Wolf of Bedford Falls. Now another fantastic business-based drama gets the same treatment with footage of David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross being edited together in the same style as the initial teaser trailer for The Wolf of Wall Street. It's awesome. Watch now! Richard Trammell's Wolf of Wall Street / Glengarry Glen Ross trailer mash-up (via The Playlist): Aside from the fantastic job editing this trailer, one of the more amusing parts to me is the casual use of the f-bomb throughout, but the version of Kanye West's song "Black Skinhead" is the edited version that ...

Liam Neeson Writes Melodrama in First US Trailer for 'Third Person' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Following an international trailer and domestic poster for Paul Haggis' latest drama Third Person, the first trailer for the film's undated release in the United States has arrived. Unfortunately, all it does is showcase more of the melodrama while building up the mystery of what will tie all these characters together. However, if we were to take a guess based on this trailer, it clearly has something to do with the story that Liam Neeson is working on. We get a bit more of Mila Kunis, Kim Basinger and Maria Bello in this trailer as well. We're still not sold on this film, but maybe the performances are good. Watch? Here's the first US trailer for Paul Haggis' Third Person from YouTube: Third Person is written and directed by Paul Haggis (Crash, The Next Three Days) and follows three stories in Paris, Rome and New York, each with hidden connections between Michael (Liam Neeson), a writer whose latest manuscript has been refused, ...

Watch: 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' 10-Minute Interview & New Featurette - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
In a couple short weeks, we'll see how Columbia Pictures new plans for an expanded cinematic universe for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 kick off when the blockbuster sequel hits theaters. Of course, the film is already hitting all sorts of international markets, so be careful with spoilers online. In the meantime, check out a cool 10-minute interview special with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and director Marc Webb as they discuss the making of the film and their characters. Review: Glazer's 'Under the Skin' Undoubtedly Gets Under Our Skin - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Visually haunting and lyrical in style, Jonathan Glazer’s adaptation of the novel Under the Skin is the kind of profound sci-fi brain-stopper that will be sure to draw comparisons to some of the greats. We’re talking Kubrick and Roeg comparisons. History will tell if Under the Skin attains any part of that level of legacy, but it’s undeniable the film achieves success in the images it displays before our eyes and the emotions they beckon from the audience’s soul. Always at an arm’s length of understanding its grand design, the film relies on aesthetic and a gripping performance from Scarlett Johansson to hold the viewer’s attention. All things considered, that's not a bad combination of benefits to choose from. Read on! Johansson plays, we are to assume, a member of a strange, alien race who travels to our planet to pick up hitchhikers. That would be a noble cause for any race, not just one whose DNA is wholly different from ...

First Look: Michael Fassbender Holds Marion Cotillard in 'Macbeth' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
While Natalie Portman was once slated to star alongside Michael Fassbender in the latest big screen adaptation of the classic William Shakespeare play Macbeth (or "that Scottish play" for all you theater folk), it's Marion Cotillard who ended up in the lead role as the lady of a Scottish lord who aspires to be king. Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel, who directed a segment in the Aussie omnibus The Turning, is at the helm of this feature adaptation, and we have two first look photos that look gorgeous. One features Fassbender embracing Cotillard, while the other has General Macbeth clearly ready for battle. Look below! 'Citadel' Director Ciaran Foy Gets Behind the Camera for 'Sinister 2' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
When a sequel to the horror film Sinister was announced over a year ago, director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill were said to be reteaming for the film. And while Derrickson is still attached as a producer and writer, the filmmaker just revealed on Twitter that Ciaran Foy, the director of Citadel (which won the Midnighter Audience Award at SXSW in 2012), will be at the helm of the horror sequel this time. If you haven't seen that spectacular psychological horror thriller, you can watch the trailer right here, and then seek out the film right away. It shows that Foy is perfect to direct Sinister 2 in place of Mr. Derrickson. Still no details on how the story of the sequel will play out, but recalling the story of the first film, it only makes sense that the mysterious spooky figure and the creepy children that come in tow after some twisted home videos are discovered will terrorize ...

Review: Wally Pfister's 'Transcendence' Disappoints on Every Level - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
Cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence, barely even registers. You can forget about it transcending anything. From the minute we're introduced to the wrap-around, and long before we even flash back, the stagnancy of the screenplay begins to dull everything down around it. It's playing on some interesting ideas, concepts that may well come across as far more mind-blowing when found in a science book. Too much is bland in Transcendence, and that goes for story, acting and direction. Not even the immaculate eye of Wally Pfister can escape the black hole of enjoyment that's at the heart of this film. That wrap-around is set five years into the future, a future where all electronics have shorted out and keyboards are only kept around for door stops. We're introduced to Max Waters (Paul Bettany), at one time a scientist now left to roam the analog world providing narration and exposition to anyone who will listen. That "anyone" just happens to be ...

Chris Pine to Star in Disney's Coast Guard Drama 'The Finest Hours' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
For the most part, over the past few years, Chris Pine has taken on big blockbusters like Star Trek, last year's sequel and this year's disappointing Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Now he's sticking with studio films, but looking to get a little more serious with his acting chops. THR has word that Pine is in talks to lead The Finest Hours, a coast guard drama set back in 1952 and based on the non-fiction book of the same name about how two oil tankers were caught in the middle of a nor'easter, a macro-scale storm along the upper East Coast of the US and Atlantic Canada. What happened is unbelievable, and worthy of the big screen. During the storm, the two oil tankers were split in town, dumping all 84 of their crew members into the swirling sea, leaving the coast guard doing their best to save as many as they could. First Look: Bérénice Bejo in Hazanavicius' Cannes Film 'The Search' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
In 2011, French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius and his wife, actress Bérénice Bejo, became the toast of Cannes when they premiered the B&W silent film The Artist (my glowing review), which went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. Now three years later, Hazanavicius and Bejo are back with another film, titled The Search, which was just announced to play In Competition at Cannes 2014 next month. Leading up to the film's premiere in May, the first photo has been unveiled. The project was shot in secret last year and is a remake of an old 1948 WWII film, but contemporarized and set in Chechnya instead. Check it out below. Steven Spielberg Considering 'The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
It's been well over a year since Lincoln hit theaters, and director Steven Spielberg still hasn't figured out his next project. However, at least one more possibility has surfaced as Variety reports the filmmaker is considering reteaming with writer Tony Kushner, the man behind the Best Picture nominated presidential biopic's screenplay and also Spielberg's powerful Munich for another religious drama called The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara. As of now Spielberg at least plans to produce the co-production between DreamWorks and The Weinstein Company, and he's considering the project as a directing gig too. The film would be based on David Kertzer's non-fiction book, and here's the synopsis: Bologna: nightfall, June 1858. A knock sounds at the door of the Jewish merchant Momolo Mortara. Two officers of the Inquisition bust inside and seize Mortara's six-year-old son, Edgardo. As the boy is wrenched from his father's arms, his mother collapses. First Trailer for Clint Eastwood's 'Jersey Boys' Musical Carries a Tune - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
It's been awhile since we had a big screen musical that didn't come with a big name cast, and perhaps that's what makes Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys so damn interesting. Gareth Edwards Talks About Taking the New 'Godzilla' Very Seriously - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...

David Koechner to Lead the Young Troops in 'Scouts vs. Zombies' - http://www.firstshowing.net/2014...
