Perhaps it's because this was a pilot for a series, but the plot felt stretched at the two hour mark. And most of the characters seem like one dimensional stereotypes. It doesn't help that most of the key themes have been heavily mined by SF writers for a decade or more so it felt predictable.

Ultimately it's an unsatisfying thing to watch because it sets up a number of mysteries, none of which it resolves. This is understandable with it being a pilot show, but it's failure to stand alone at all or to build up its characters makes me understand why it didn't get picked up.

But I should credit some skillful writing. There are a number of charged scenes that do suck you in to the emotions of what this crew are going through. That said I can't see any way this would continue as a series without turning into a Twin Peaks style mess of style over clarity.
