"This article touched on some interesting issues. The whole "shout" phenomena really seems quite incongruous with Digg's terms of service, but over the past few months I've started to see why it's necessary. Just take a look at a category's upcoming submissions page. Most of the recent stuff has a digg, maybe two, rarely more than that. That tells me that people aren't trawling through all the upcoming material finding the best stuff, which is understandable given the sheer number of submissions (and the amount of crap). So something is going to have to push some submissions above the rest. Shouts aren't perfect, but they work. The important thing is to add friends who digg interesting stuff - not friends who are going to bombard you with crap." - Eric Daams
