From having been at various times heavily into temari, kumihimo, seed-bead work and Aikido, I've noticed that almost everything the Japanese do is turned into a craft at least and an Art at most. The attention to detail is astounding and so is the (traditional) amount of repetition and honing needed to consider yourself graduated to any recognized level of expertise.
