Paul, you should get contributors on the SuperSite for Windows. You wouldn't even have to pay me. ;)

Announcement 2: A new "Everything Must Go" coming in early 2010 I need to pick a time when I'm not traveling for a few weeks, but hopefully before the end of February
- Leo Laporte
Yes, I love Everything Must Go! Maybe this time I'll actually get something...
- Eric Geller
And the Mailbag is also a great idea.
- Eric Geller
W00T! Everything Must Go is awesome. :D

If I went to CES I would definitely want to use a Segway.

I clicked on the South Hall 1-2 building but I don't see booth S1. And I tried searching for TWiT in the exhibitor list but nothing came up.

We've really overloaded the term 'blogging". We seem to want to apply it to any sort of online publishing that has a timestamp on the article.
- Ken Sheppardson
...didn't it originally refer to a much more specific style of online diary and commentary?

A look back at 2009: The top topics of the year....
- Leo Laporte
The rise of Google - Face it, Microsoft is the next IBM and Google is the next Microsoft unless something dramatic happens in 2010. Google dominates search and advertising, but it's best products are Gmail, Calendar, Voice, and Chrome. And they're just getting started.
- Leo Laporte
Big new Microsoft releases - A good year for some Microsoft products, including Windows 7, Office 2010 (Beta), Bing
- Leo Laporte
Bad new Microsoft releases - A bad year for some Microsoft products, including Windows Mobile, Zune HD (even though it's excellent)
- Leo Laporte
Microsoft and the EU - After years of stupidity and millions in fines, it's over.
- Leo Laporte
Cloud computing and how it's changing the way we work with technology - It's not just a new name for an old thing. It's a new way of doing things. Mobility + pervasive Internet is the key.
- Leo Laporte
Is PC gaming doomed? - Rarely have I gotten more mail about a single topic. It's controversial. I think FPS is dead (or at least dying) on the PC. Other types of games (MMOG) will live on.
- Leo Laporte
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - The biggest entertainment release in history
- Leo Laporte
I played that game and found it utterly reprehensible

Audible pick of the week: Jaws by Peter Benchley http://www.audible.com/adbl... Tip of the week: Create multiple Explorer shortcuts on the Windows 7 taskbar Create a shortcut to the desired folder, then go to its properties. In the target field, just add the word "explorer" (no quotes) before the folder path. The shortcut's icon will by default change to the Windows Explorer icon, but it can of course be changed to whatever the user wants. Then pin this shortcut to the taskbar. You can do this repeatedly. Thanks to Keith Ropp for the tip.

Can you add Skydrive to explorer with Win7 Library Tool?
- Jim Adams
Jim: SkyDrive is not natively browsable view Explorer, but there are other programs out there (don't remember any right now) that allow you to do that.
- Eric Geller
If you set up a program like that, you could probably map it to a place that you could add to Explorer.

Great episode, and great seeing myself at the end!

fine episode. great job on smoothly inserting the videos into the conversation with them totally switching topics. However, the chirping drove me crazy. Sounded like someone's smoke alarm battery was dying.
- jccalhoun
It's the second time that autonomous automobiles have come up in TWIT. It's not the technology, as you have noted, nor is it the customers as has been discussed. It's the legal liability of which the car companies are afraid if one of these driverless cars were to have a fatal accident.
- hhwong
That's why you don't go to "hip" bars. Who doesn't put some kind of something on their fries? Sheesh.
- Jon, the Beartato of '10
You should tell us where this is so we don't mistakenly go there in search of delicious condiments.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
"Yes, I'd like some ketchup." "We don't do that here." "Ok, how about some mustard?" "FUUUUUU---"
- Jon, the Beartato of '10
There are few places that have fries good enough to eat sans ketchup. Guessing this place wasn't 1 of them.
- pea
Those fries better have come served in a paper cone.
- Julian
Mayonnaise is probably a non-starter, too.
- DGentry
In absence of ketchup, my vote is also for malt vinegar. Then Mrs. Dash, Lawry's, or a can of chili con carne, shredded sharp cheddar.

@Chris I must admit, I'm curious to try that

Ketchup is against my religion. But access to ketchup is a civil right and I will not campaign to deny others access to pure-evil-in-a-bottle!

http://www.google.com/reader... I'm glad you asked this right now. I just realized that several people are following me and I didn't even know it. I hope it hasn't been this way for long!
- Michael Fidler
Just noticed that Reader now allows grouping of people you follow! Wondering: is Reader going to become a competitor (instead of complement) to FriendFeed?
- Chris Rogers
@rogersdc / Chris, Google Reader is obviously been trying to become more social, but I'd really like to see FF come out with a bookmarklet that makes sub'ing RSS feeds to FF easier/faster. Right now it's a manual process involving either a new Group/Room or Imaginary Friend. Should be 2 clicks tops.. Also see: http://friendfeed.com/alexsch...
- Alex Schleber
Here is mine : http://www.google.fr/reader.... I share (mainly on French sites and blogs) about libraries, literature and arts, human and social sciences, photography :-)
- Nadine Pestourie
LOL here we go again :o) http://www.google.com/reader... I share a lot of blogs and funny stuff that I read, it's neat how I can share and it gets posted all over by friendfeed.
- David Gross
http://www.google.com/reader... - I share items about productivity, gaming, movies, and misc. stuff from the Google "cool" via Recommendations feed. Thanks Kol for starting this thread because I've been trying to cut down on the number of feeds I subscribe to and instead just follow interesting people.
- Dusty Edenfield
Svartling: good point about adding people to groups. I noticed I couldn't comment on items that were shared by some users.
- Dusty Edenfield
I've (we) written a lot of more good tips on how to use Google Reader in Google Reader comments. It's too bad we don't have permalinks in Greader so we can share our notes and comments. Otherwise I could have posted a link here. Here are some on friendfeed: http://friendfeed.com/svartli...
- Svartling
The conversation is really blowing up (in a good way) on Reader. The most important reminder currently is to set up groups and allow commenting. That is NOT on by default!
- Vince DeGeorge
Thank you all. I think I have subscribed you all now (except those feed in languages I don't understand) Here is mine again: http://www.google.com/reader...
- Svartling
I've started to follow a few of the people here but there's quite a few, so will take me a while :) - My currently fairly bare feed is: http://www.google.com/reader...
- Roy Herrod
There are a few entries here you might like to read to help you. This one: http://ff.im/6CkQj explains about adding people to groups to allow them to comment and why some don't stay in groups. In this one: http://ff.im/6F9pQ I suggest a way to track a large number of shared items using PostRank. This: http://ff.im/6Ci0P and this: http://ff.im/6AM35 has a few tips on using GReader as a lifestreaming service. And this: http://ff.im/6EMT1 gives a few examples of GReader bundles.
- Kol Tregaskes
Those of you above whom I already follow on FF/Twitter/etc., I've subscribed to your feeds. As for the rest of you: if you follow me on GReader, I'll follow you back.
- Dennis Jernberg
I'm sharing some pages now, including a few of my past blog entries.
- Dennis Jernberg
Because I have issues with data duplication, I have merged this list with the google reader shares room feeds. You can view the Google spreadsheet at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...
- Rob Diana
There are a bunch of shared feeds that I could not resolve the Google username for because they did not have a named profile set up.
- Rob Diana
tristanhambling, your link didn't work. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
It would be really handy to have all these shared feeds as an opml file. Has anyone added everyone? Care to export an opml of the shared feeds?
- Paul Jacobson
I'm http://www.google.com/reader... Not really comfortable with the custom URL though since it can only be your gmail username. Makes it really easy for spamspiders I think.

Tobias, possibly but not had any problems myself though Gmail has the best spam filters around so I probably not noticed. ;-)

MF/Kol = I live in Kingston on Thames. It's OK apart from the traffic (continually gridlocked) and the shops (girls just lurve them). Handy for getting into London both airports and out to the Thames Valley for work type things. Richmond Park and the river in walking distance is great too.
- Andy C
Andy, Richmond Park and the others around there are the appeal really. Good place to go photographing and cycling while being very close to London I think.
- Kol Tregaskes
Teddington (across the river from Kingston Upon Thames, is where I think I'd like to live. Just 'cos it's cheaper than everywhere else around it. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol many years ago, we made the mistake of asking an estate agent in Surbiton whether it was any cheaper than Kingston. She replied 'No - of course not. We are on the fast line to Waterloo' and looked at us as if we were dog excrement.
- Andy C
I've checked rental prices in the area several times over the last 2 years and Teddington is definitely cheaper. I'm not buying, no way I can afford that. ;-) All a pip-dream anyway, need a steady job and I've not had that for a while. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
anyone use google reader on windows mobile professional? I cant seem to get it to work and when I try to go to the mobile site it takes me to the regular site.

Nope, sorry can't help you there, David.

I still don't get what TWiT is. I listened to that NSFW show for 5 minutes, where they're making "cock" and "dick" jokes, and I say "boy there's alot of penis jokes in here"... poof, kicked out of IRC. Is TWiT a family friendly network, or is it an edgy network? It cannot be both or nobody will watch it at all.
- Dave Friedel
I really like that TWiT has a good variety of shows now. Like any network not every show has to be for everybody.
- Joe Pierce
By that logic Dave, most networks would fail because on TV they have adult content at night time.
- Mark
No, it's that they're sitting there saying those words over and over, but not allowing viewers to say them. So it's okay for the hosts to say it, but not the chat room? It sucks.
- Dave Friedel
Dave, I have exactly the same stance. I like the content but am frustrated with the total over-zealousness of the chat mods.
- Eric Geller
Yeah, it's like do they want participation or not? Don't have an R-rated show then boot people out of the chat room for something that wasn't even a profanity whatsoever. Their mods need to maybe get a clue what the audience is so they don't just have viewers bail out. Duh.
- Dave Friedel
The chat mods are notoriously power mad
- Mark
from iPhone
Yeah, but they're hurting their own network because of not understanding the programming or the audience. It seems self destructive. Maybe it's because the main show I listen to is This Week in Fun, and I love it. But if Sarah or Martin talk about sex or poop, it's fun to sit and watch all the people get kicked out of the chat room who try to comment on what the hosts are already saying. It sucks. And after about a year, it's making me want to stop watching.
- Dave Friedel
Dave, there's a #unfiltered channel in the IRC for chatting around shows like NSFW and TWiF
- Chris Heath
Whatever. If they want people to go figure it out, they ought to explain it. It's just dumb.
- Dave Friedel
it isn't that hard. there are different rules for the guests than for the chatroom. The chat is family friendly. Leo isn't going to kick a guest off for saying something off color. end of story.
- jccalhoun
So a show doing cock and dick jokes nobody can say anything? All that will do is drive people away. Hey, here's an idea... make a different URL for the adult shows they have. They don't understand their audience.
- Dave Friedel
It's not like I'm mad. I just hate to see these little startup things like TWiT shotgun themselves in the foot and limit their audience. It's very hard to measure who quits and goes elsewhere, that's all. Knowing some geeky code to enter could be driving people away in droves. It creates a limiter on the size of the audience they can ever hope to get. It's just too bad.
- Dave Friedel
it's just too bad? cry me a river Dave, TWiT is doing just fine and has been growing like gangbusters with these practices in place... this problem you've encountered only happens when shows themselves go beyond family friendly and I do agree that the mods should make the #unfiltered room more apparent (maybe kick you to that room instead of off the server when you swear in the main chat)
- Chris Heath
remember that the audience isn't the chatroom. twit doesn't make a dime off of live viewers. the audience is in downloaders. Leo throws around money like crazy so I don't think he is worried about losing audience numbers
- jccalhoun
Got to agree with @Dave Friedel here. Separate chat wasn't clearly evident. These new shows are giving TWiT the G4 feel. Even a good series can't go on forever. I'm starting to replace some of my podcasts with those with better production.
- Jude
you've got to be kidding, right? G4 feel? hahahaha
- Chris Heath
@Dave: TWIT is a tech chat show hosted by Leo in which rotating guests comment on the top tech stories that Leo brings up. This is occasionally mixed in with random barks from Dvorak who sounds like The Penguin from the old Batman series. Then, if you're really lucky, you may get to hear an episode where Calacanis comes on and attempts to bore everyone with his horrible impressions and blowhard egocentric stories. Good show.
- Fleagle
Fresh (http://www.ironicsoftware.com/fresh...) is a similar app and feels a little more intuitive. At a keyboard-click, it shows you the most recent files you worked on, also allowing you to keep a drawer of your favourite apps and files below it.
- Vincent van Wylick
did any of the invites make it yet? they have a really funky invite interface and it is kind of making it seem like I can only invite contacts from services I have ported into inbox2 which will annoy me if its the case
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
grrrr they have the worst invite functionality - so sorry for the delay all - lemme figure out how the hell to send these out
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Sorry gang. I tried twice. If it were just me with the problem, I'd say it was user error...but it appears as if Marco is having issues as well. Their invite setup stinks.
- eEditor
filled out a feedback form - will see if I get a response (it appears to be a simple send a message form vs something more robust and helpful like Get Satisfaction: strike 2 for them)
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Hi there, actually we are also using http://features.inbox2.com/ :-) We'll be moving to something more suited along the way, the feedback form gets the job done for now. But anyways, you can also send invites to people using their email address (they don't have to be in your Inbox2 contact list). I'll bring the "sucks" advice to the attention of our UI designers. @aureliusmaximus I'll look into why your invites are not arriving.
- Waseem Sadiq
Waseem: Would really welcome an invite as people have tried sending one to me but I am yet to receive one. Could you help with that: rohitsonika (at) gmail dot com. Thanks!
- Rohit
Thanks so much Waseem - it tells me to put in the email address, i type it in, it says its searching and doesn't find the contact (but the email address I type is still there), I click the Send Invite button and...nothing. No error message, no message sent notification, no invite cannot be sent - nuthin.
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
anybody receive invites yet? if not i will try again to see if they fixed it
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Marco: Haven't had one yet. You could try rohitsonika(at)gmail.com Thanks!
- Rohit
Hi guys here is an invite code for you, use this link http://www.inbox2.com/account... (limited availability).
