Lyle Lovett + air conditioning + new and improved toddler-proofing = a semi-relaxed afternoon. Now if only I had a margarita... that would be truly relaxing!
Oh my, we are moving into a phase where Gus joyfully brings me things then takes them back and deposits them in totally random places. It's like muscial objects here. Christmas napkin ring (how did he find that?!) in the bottle rack, bottle top in the dvd cabinet, remote control in the stuffed animal basket. Note to self: don't let him find my...
Gus is at the cooperative playgroup... without me. He looked happy and very busy when I left. You'd think I'd be old hat at this after leaving him at the NICU all those nights but I miss him! I hope he's having fun AND that he doesn't smack-tap anybody too hard.
Some how we have a whole bunch of flies in our apartment. Not sure how it started or where they are coming from. Been killing them with a fly swatter. Thought I got all of them (18+) yesterday but I just saw another fly by (grr). Any tips on how to get rid of them for good?
There's no doubt about it now, Gus is walking! Took his first first single steps about a month ago. He's still mostly crawling but just a second ago Twinkle Toes took about 10 little steps to his basket of toys.
So Gus was standing at the coffee table gazing at me quizzically while his little feet marched up and down. I couldn't see his feet and was curious as to why he was marching in place. Answer: He was standing on a very ripe banana, enjoying the feeling of mushiness squishing between his toes. [sigh] Good times!
I keep getting this request to update my email because FB's "systems have detected that my email is no long a valid email". There's nothing wrong with my email. Is this legit? This seems like an odd request so I'm wondering if it could be a virus, though I've never heard of them coming this way.
Finally a decent night of sleep! Not perfect but good enough. Somehow I had become sleep deprived again. Yesterday was the worst - crabby and nonsensical like during the newborn bootcamp days. Sorry to all those who came into contact with me!
I want to thank my son, Gus, for patiently entertaining himself for almost 2 hours while I rushed to finish the state taxes. I totally forgot about them until 3:00 PM TODAY! Thank goodness for high-chairs, snacks, books and Mary Poppins!!
Does anybody know of any midwives or doulas who write about death, illness, or complications during pregnancy or childbirth? Oh, and not from the perspective that the establishment failed the natural process but from the perspective that these things are ALSO part of nature and the natural process.
Interesting quote I just heard on Sunday Morning - "If your dream doesn't work out, get a new dream." Spoken by a golfer who, after becoming paralyzed, rigged up a goft cart with a swiveling bar stool so he could start golfing again... not on the PGA about on his own tour with trick tees and balls. Drawing a crowd and still golfing!
My mom and dad just left to go back to Madison. It's harder to say goodbye now that we have Gus. DC seriously needs to have timeshares for retired (grand)parents of adult children with baby grandchildren. Waaaaaaa.
I haven't been on a proper vacation for quite a while so, thanks to FB, I travel vicariously thru others. This morning I've been on a Carribbean cruise and now I'm first in line for Magic Kingdom! I should put on mouse ears and make myself a rum and coke. Where are we going next, peeps?
On the news tonight... a grumpy beaver has been attacking dogs walking along the river in Old Town. I like that the reporter called the beaver "grumpy"!
People need to understand that special needs children don't have an illness; they are not looking for a cure... only acceptance. Ninety-three percent of you probably won't copy and paste this~will you be in the 7% that will and leave it on your status for at least an hour? Special Education Week: March 22nd to the 26th.
"I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult." E. B. White.
Just got back from Gus's first story time at the public library - he loved it! It's a whole new world for us both. Up until now we've avoided big crowds and toddlers but with cold and flu season winding down and the fact that he had a very healthy 1st year with no respiratory setbacks, we can finally start doing normal baby/toddler stuff. Yay...
Gus just got his LAST synagis shots... hurray!!!! One of them was a real bleeder, but he survived... he's certainly been through worse. Now it's time for lunch, play and... a nap (pretty please)!
Snaps for me... at the 11th hour (well actually at 1:00 PM) I decided to make corned beef and cabbage. Turned out super yummy. Even made the mustard sauce and Irish soda bread. Had Guinness to wash it down. It's been a while since I had corned beef so I wasn't even sure if I actually like it but hey, I do! Happy St. Patty's Day!
