excellent - Noah Carter
Hmmm. I don't think I'm ready to declare a winner in this space, yet. I think a really good MySpace or Facebook app has the potential to trounce FF. - Eric Hamilton
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this - Jason Kaneshiro
Whew! If Steve falls any more in love with FF, we may have to start making wedding plans soon - Charlie Anzman
My wife, Lindsay kind of covered something similar a month or so ago. She's convinced that FF will spawn the first useful Intelligent Agents. I tend to agree. See: http://macrolinz.com/macrolinz... - Tad, Fool
Interesting article. Steve seems to suggest that FF is staffed to build better technology than many others. That might be possible, but technology is not enough as other factors such as scale (number of users) might impact even more? - Davide D'Incau
Great article. - Aaron Myers
It's interesting that there isn't a 'FriendFeed This' button at the end of the article. - Andrew Denny
Tad D, Lindsay's article is great. I especially like this part: "It’s even possible that FriendFeed could share revenue with FFeeders based on their influence in resulting sales". Steve: Paltry 300K? Thank G they have "only" 300K. Figuring out this social media/ad model is going to require a company with enough flexibility and speed to keep up with the pace and vagaries of users. No lumbering cruise ships need apply -- jet skis only. - Ginger Makela
maybe it's the players, not the app - William Stewart
It's a start, I'm a fan of FF, but it's early in the life streaming cycle. - James Clark
Oh please. Blame the user? Seriously? The problem is that popular content is reshared - that's the very nature of social media. FriendFeed currently makes no effort to show how many people are sharing, bookmarking, tweeting etc the same content so the discussions around that content become segregated little silos. This is one of FriendFeed's biggest challenges to overcome, IMO and speaks greatly to the "noiseness" of the system. - Sarah Perez
@Sarah A big reason why I'm bullish on FF is because of the team - I think they are very smart, and likely already know about that duplicate issue, are thinking about how to solve it, and will be able to implement it. They aren't sitting still. - Jason Kaneshiro
Steve - seriously? Did this post need such a baiting headline? - Jeremy Toeman
You could be right Steve. It's gotta start somewhere. I think if Facebook used the tech. They could make a more compelling package. - Laurent Courtines via twhirl
Rubel nailed it on every point, and I share his enthusiasm. Now let's hope the Friendfeed developers address the noise issue with their usual brilliance and creativity. - Sean McBride
Great post as always, Steve! - Glen Stansberry
i must be tired. when i first saw this, i thought "tiny Friendfeed" was a FF mobile app like tinytwitter. d'oh! - Christian Anderson

Yahoo Maps market share: 40% to 13% in 2.5 years
May 29 at 3:10 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
According to Hitwise (not a particularly reliable source) Yahoo maps share was 41% in July 2005 and 13% in Jan 2008. Above link is for 2008. 2005 data is here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/ITFacts... - Simon
I'm astonished that Mapquest's market share is still > 50% - Ole Begemann
Typo in the heading: should be 41% not 40%, not that it really matters given the precision of Hitwise data... - Simon
Surprised at the popularity of Mapquest - site is pretty rubbish in comparison with competitors. - Richard Bradshaw via twhirl
Ever since Lazy Sunday declared that Google Maps was the best, the others were doomed. Double True! - Andy Roth
Can someone please explain the mapquest market share to me? And why are the numbers on marketingcharts.com (who also get their data from hitwise) slightly off? http://tinyurl.com/3prphn - sdfx
I guess it comes from all the Google maps mashups - Merrill
Do people still use Mapquest? Isn't that the internet map of 1998? - Keith Bilous
Mapquest is the epitome of Web 1.0 versus GMaps at 2.0 - Elliott Plack
I'm always amazed when I see someone still using Mapquest, but it happens more than you would think. - Bryan Clark
The last time I tried Mapquest, it was easier to read than Google Maps, and occasionally more accurate. I still use Google Maps most of the time, but I don't see much wrong with Mapquest's current product. Could you Mapquest haters enlighten me? - Amit Patel
I'm with Amit. There was a time when Google Maps' routing algorithms were so bad that I would have to tell people to use MapQuest to find my house. - Piaw Na
