Anyone do a lot of teaching using 2.0 tools who might want to do a Computers in Libraries session on it? I want to talk about how I use social software and Drupal to teach at SJSU, but think it might be better as a 2-person panel.
I'd love to but don't think I can get to the east coast a third time this next year. I'll be teaching a class on social networking in the spring and am looking forward to trying out some new tools for that class. Right now I use the basics...Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Delicious. I hope you find the right person for the panel.

lovely panel idea, Meredith. I'd volunteer but I think we use a lot of the same things (i.e. drupal, social media), so perhaps it would be better to have the other panelist talk about totally different tech...? Think on it. Would be happy to talk!

I've been trying a few out and wonder if I should go with a pay-for or free version for my Library, tried Screentoaster, Camstudio and Jing so far
- Janice
sprung for Jing Pro. mostly so I could record in mpeg to upload to youtube. it's so simple and lightweight, I love it. I haven't used any of the others though, so I have no idea how it compares etc.

Hey, what're you screencasting, Amanda? Anything general enough to be used by, say, me?

er, so far: how to embed youtube vids in 2.0 toolbox blogs. super specific! but i have plans for other, more general stuff up my sleeve. will keep u (and everyone at wrk) posted.

Good. Shawn and I talked about future plans to create slick video/screencast tutorials. Implementation to come later.

But I'm also interested to create on-demand casts for iSci. Jing looks like the thing for that.

susan and i also talked with shawn. there's lots of interest in this.
- krista godfrey
@andrew yeah, Jing would be perfect for that. @krista I'm thinking this sounds like a good project for the long dormant ETG!
- amanda etches-johnson
Do you get other good features with Pro? I like Jing but haven't considered upgrading.
- Jàson Puçkett
i'm hoping twit will do something with it too
- krista godfrey
@Librarian X -- great question. I upgraded for the mpeg capability. there's also a nice single-click to upload to screencast.com and YouTube.
- amanda etches-johnson
@krista yeah, TWIT for sure. I was thinking ETG could come up with some screencasting resources for everyone use and it would totally make sense to work with TWIT on that. fun!

"Hey Karen — this probably isn’t *quite* what you’re looking for, but I thought I’d let you know anyway. We’re using PmWiki in “farm” mode to power our hosted wiki service: http://blog.lib.mcmaster.ca/. We’re mostly targeting faculty who want to use wikis in their courses, teaching & research, but we’ve got a bunch for library projects and other campus stuff. Here’s the complete list of wikis we’re hosting for the campus community: http://blog.lib.mcmaster.ca/wikis-t...."

"@walt thanks for the clarification. all I knew was that you’re at the helm of all that cool, free content I was reading last night. which is so many kinds of awesome"
- amanda etches-johnson
You're welcome--and I'm delighted you find the content useful. We try...(and "we" definitely includes the 40-odd libloggers who are contributors to LLN).

"@Cynthia: yeah, I agree on JISC. My non-word assessment was a bit flip, I guess, but you’re right — clearly their audience was not libraryfolk. @Tom: I know, right? they had better not take away sensible shoes from me because that was the *only other reason* I joined this profession."

haven't read the whole thing yet (just the "key findings") but it looks to be an interesting exploration of the impact of social media on higher ed.
