It's terrible that someone got injured. I don't think it warrants a policy change though. Even non-maple bats are hard and sometimes they go into the stands and hit people. Balls are hard and they definitely hit a lot more people. Should MLB move to aluminum bats (more issues there) and softer balls? I don't think so.
