"Users can record images not just at the instant they press the shutter button, but before! Continuously recording at up to 60 images per second, a maximum of 60 images can be saved in the camera’s own buffer memory even before the shutter button is depressed. Even if users press the shutter a little late, they will still be able to catch that vital moment." - Gabe

This thing not only has a YouTube mode and face recognition, it can record at 1200fps(!) or 1080i HD. But the cool thing is that it can continuously record at 60fps, so it's almost like a Tivo for real life. If something interesting happens that you wanted a photo of, just push the button and it gets copied from the buffer to your flash card. - Gabe
I use the Continuous Shoot feature on my pocket camera to get lots of frames, and then I pick the best one. (For an example, see http://flickr.com/photos/amitp...) I only get ~1 shot per second though, which is too slow. I've long wanted something that took a movie and let me pick the best frame. This camera looks like it has what I want, although not at the size I want. - Amit Patel
Another neat feature is that you can set shutter speeds of 1/40,000 seconds. Even the best professional SLRs have only gone up to 1/16,000. You can freeze lots of motion with a shutter speed that fast. - Gabe
If I remember right, with CHDK on my Canon pocket camera, I was able to get 1/60,000 second shutter speeds. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/a... although that didn't require that fast of a shutter. CHDK may be lying about the camera's capabilities. - Amit Patel
"Frankly, it is hard to take anyone seriously who created a company motto reminding an organization not to be “evil” to their customers. Friendfeed now seems a little lamer to me than it did before." - Paul Buchheit

i like the 1 comment on his about page: "I’m looking for some help setting up SQL 2005 Web Services. I need some hands on training. Would you be able to help me as a consultant or trainer?" LMAO! - Morgan
Glad you got trash-talked in a way you can enjoy. :-) - Bruce Lewis
my login name is "eviltom" - does that count for anything? - eviltom
Better than being the Microsoftian who created the secret motto "Do be evil, but don't tell anyone" - Jason Carreira
It wasn't "trash talk". I don't think any of my comments were disrespectful to Paul personally. I have never been a fan of the slogan and never will be. To each his own I guess. You guys have fun with the discussion, eh? :) - Randy Holloway
I saw "hard to take anyone seriously" as disrespectful and "who created a company motto..." as Paul personally, but maybe that's just me. - Bruce Lewis

No problem Randy, and no offense taken. I just thought it was kind of funny :) - Paul Buchheit
Evil is Live when reversed... now, what was the Microsoft's online brand again? ;) - Jemm
Bruce- fair enough. To clarify then, it would be better to say that I don't like that slogan and learning that Paul created it colored my perception of FriendFeed. Others can disagree, no personal disrespect intended. - Randy Holloway
Interesting. I've never particularly cared for Nike's "Just Do It" slogan, but if Dan Wieden (former ad man for Nike) went out and started up a cool new shoelace company, I can't imagine that my distaste for a slogan he created many years ago would in any way color my opinion of his fine, fine shoelaces. - Jeanette Martinez
am i the only one that thinks it's hilarious that a current msft employee would be bagging on a "former" goog employee's not lame new company simply because of a slogan that was part of a (goog) marketing campaign to differentiate themselves from the "evil empire" (msft) - all of which is ancient history - randy here's a clue, if you have to say "no disrespect intended" someone took it as disrespectful, i know i did when i read it - rock on paul, glad you're humored by this :) - mike "glemak" dunn
Paul didn't say “don't be evil” as a marketing slogan. - Amit Patel
Uh oh. Tom, if I get this camera, we won't be able to share our lenses and have redundancy. That's one of our special events! Actually, it's *two* of our 10 events! - Ana
well i can always just throw away my camera and get the nikon just to "copy" you. :) - eviltom
(although the only difference between this camera and the canon link i sent you is that the nikon can capture video. all the other specs seem to be the same.) - eviltom
This is from 4 days ago... Bolt ran that day, but it was just a heat. I'll have pictures up of last night's 4x100m relay soon... - Ana
ana's captioning productivity has gone up 1000% since i left! - eviltom
I wonder if the cameramen have to train to be fit enough to run alongside the track&field olympians on their victory laps. Their equipment doesn't exactly look light. - Dan Hsiao
"But we didn’t think they were actually basketball players—although one of them did resemble Dwayne Wade." - actually, it looks like you saw the real DWade. and Chris Paul and Deron Williams, too. - David Vasileff
Wait seriously? We really just weren't sure, and actually joked about doing that--posting the pictures online and having the FriendFeed community help us figure out if they were the real guys. :) - Ana
yep. CP3 is in the red shirt with backwards cap. Deron is in the back with grey T and backward cap. - David Vasileff
no way! really? crap, why did he have to be so cynical. those guys really DIDNT look like pro athletes. crazy. - eviltom
I am also unable to cope with the crush of my own photos. I am finding myself declining social requests just so that I don't have an opportunity to take more photos and get more backlogged. - Ana
caption the photos later. That's got to be a bottleneck. Love the gymnastics posts tho. thnx - Josh Haley
at least ana is honest when she declines the social requests. instead of blaming jetlag, she just says that she needs to stay home to caption photos. - eviltom
Like Ana's first comment! And in response to your second comment - I totally know the Photo crush, I'm a year or more behind and there is not a day that goes by that it doesn't bother me. - Rachel L Fox
Is this something you could outsource? - Jim Norris
Good point Jim, as Ana is in China I guess India would be her best outsourcing opportunity, I'll call for tech support on my Dell and ask for any volunteers while I'm on the line. - Steve Craft
We've already outsourced Ana's role to China, what more do we want? - Kevin Fox
Badminton... 8 rows up from the courts! I was so excited walking
inside the stadium I actually started jumping up and down! - Ana

very cool. I just pulled up badminton live stream. they are showing JPN Sato/DEN Gade, now tied 1-1. very lively and excited crowd, indeed. - David Vasileff
didn't even notice they have streams for all three courts. crowd must be cheering the GBR/CHN mixed doubles match - what a match. unbelievable. GBR down 17-12 in final game finish 9-2 to win 21-19. wow. - David Vasileff
is jumping up and down in excitment outlawed by the government? the Chinese are a stoic people - eviltom

Loved Zhang Yimou's production "Impressions of Sanjie" on the Li River in Yangshuo, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does on a much bigger scale. Will be watching tonight on HDTV with friends and eating Chinese takeout! - Nathan Young
NBC's coverage in the past has been generally awful IMO. It's like there are no other nations involved other than the US. I'd like to see a more even handed approach. - Jonathon

Don't understand how Mark's hotness was not acknowledged all season. He is seriously channeling some romance novel cover here. Sniff. Marksie forever! - Rebecca Sun
maybe because his weirdness and annoyingness was overwhelming any hotness that he had. - eviltom
i have to agree with Eviltom, he weirded me out a bunch. plus he just didn't have the range that the others do. - Rachel L Fox
I was happy to see Mark finally go, but I actually kinda liked Chelsie (though I like Katee better). - Shannon Jiménez
argh! chelsie was my favorite (to look at) - eviltom
Completely agree. I couldn't help but wonder if Mark had been eliminated last week as everyone thought he should have, would it still have been Twitch and Joshua in the finale? Or would Will have beaten out one of them? - Ana
I think Will should have been in Final based on talent, but Twitch and Joshua probably are more popular. I didn't think that I would like Joshua as much as I do now considering his lack of training. I wonder if Katee peaked too early and Joshua is growing enough to win! - Pokai
“This was the first week I felt like Katee didn't give it her all. I mean she was of course very good, but something was missing, she didn't totally get me.”
Agreed, the Paso doble was exceptional, but I almost only watched Joshua! - Rachel L Fox
maybe it was the shirtless thing. perhaps katee should go shirtless to get more attention. - eviltom
*lol* while the shirtless thing doesn't hurt, it was his technique. He had sharp crisp strong movements. That high knee march he did was just beautiful. He had this shoulders in perfect position, he was strong and crisp. The perfect matador. As the cape Katee can play it only a few ways: 1. strong and crisp, similar to him, showing the snap that a cape makes in his hands, 2. soft and flowing , like fabric gliding, a perfect contrast to him, or 3. like a flirt, a little of both, playing off his moves. - Rachel L Fox
I believe she was trying for #2, the soft flowing cape. But she wasn't graceful enough. I know she can do it but it was like her heart wasn't there. She became almost a background image. She was there, but that is it. It was really weird because she is my favorite girl right now, I just don't know what happened. - Rachel L Fox
I didn't really like the middle part of the paso doble when the music got really fast. I thought the beginning and end were better. - Ana
“I am now finally fully caught up! I can't believe Will was voted off! He was definitely the best dancer, and I agree that now Katee likely will end up winning. Also, I didn't like Joshua and Chelsie's disco routine at all. I thought it was really sluggish.”
I'm glad you're caught up to the injustice. I'm still in Twitch's camp. I think he'll win it despite being in last week's bottom two. People just got complacent with their voting but I'd bet he's not in this week's bottom two. - Kevin Fox
Yeah, I agree. Although, to be fair, Will's James Brown solo was not very good at all. - Ana
perhaps america was tired of seeing will show off his physique. i mean, cmon! and i agree, the james brown solo was sort of cheesy. - eviltom
yeah on james brown imitation...i think it was his effort to show personality...but america probably didn't recognize him under the wig. - Pokai
"No one knows for sure why deaths are more common during the swim portion of triathlons, but researchers have some intriguing theories. Public accounts of this year’s fatalities indicate that the athletes seemed outwardly healthy, and autopsies turned up no obvious cause of death, such as blocked arteries. The combination of apparent good health and a negative autopsy suggests a fatality caused by abnormal heart rhythms, said Pamela Douglas, a Duke University cardiologist who has studied triathletes. Evidence suggests that swimming may trigger a certain type of cardiac arrhythmia caused by a genetic condition called long QT syndrome, said Michael Ackerman, a cardiologist and the director of the Windland Smith Rice Sudden Death Genomics Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic. About 1 in 2,000 people are born with a heart condition that causes a glitch in the heart’s electrical system, and the most common of these is called long QT syndrome, after the tell-tale interval on an electrocardiogram." - Ana

I can attest to the anxiety and heart irregularity that comes from swimming in open water -- I experienced that as well. The first time in the water for my practice swim, I had a complete freak out and almost quit the whole thing! During the race, my HRM showed my heart was beating super fast without much energy being expended. I like that the article pointed out that we should look at the denominator, not the numerator here. - Erin
When I was in Kona I watched people training on what is the open water section of the original IronMan and noticed that a pod of dolphins were swimming along with them -- that would scare the life out of me - Brian Sullivan
"Hundreds of thousands of people have taken part in triathlons over the last four years, and with just 23 deaths recorded by USA Triathlon since 2004 (not including last weekend’s deaths), the timing could be a statistical anomaly. But this much is clear: 18 of those 23 deaths occurred during the swim portion." - Brian Johns
My good friend has this syndrome. True to form, she didn't know she did until at the age of 17 she was dragged out of the Mediterranean having nearly drowned after passing out during a swim. Her heart stopped on at least two other occasions despite medication so she finally had an operation to cut the left sympathetic nerves feeding her heart. Despite all this, or maybe because of it, she's one of the most active and energetic people I know. She certainly doesn't take her life for granted! - Nathan Young
A friend of mine drowned in her own backyard pool a few years ago, at the age of 25. We weren't good enough friends that I ever found out the reason, but now, I wonder if this is what happened. - Ana
Thanks for posting this for my lurking mom and dad to read on FF the very week of my Ironman. :) Seriously though, I was at the height of my physical fitness in 1997 and competing as a skier when my heartbeat started to feel funny and sometimes would race a bit. I ultimately saw a doctor who, following an EKG, had me on a specialist's operating table within a day. 22 years old, in amazing shape, and I needed a heart operation! Often these conditions are just under the surface, waiting to be aggravated. - Christopher Sacca
it's a good thing i dont know how to swim! no danger of dying while competing in a triathalon! - eviltom
Sacca: good luck on your ironman!!! You're my triathlete dream.. (olympic distance wimp) - Erin
yes, chelsie is by far my favorite. (HOT!) but i think twitch or katee will win. - eviltom
i think katee will win...i like twitch, because he has great personality (even when he was on Wade Robson's show), but performance wise...he is not up to katee's level. Watch the contemporary video below and you can see the difference...at least for me. - Pokai
Twitch and Kherrington were my favorite, and then after that, Comfort (although I freely admit that she wasn't as well-rounded a dancer as the others). But yeah, I also think Katee will win. - Ana
Chelsie is amazing but Josh and Katee have been spectacular. My money is on Joshua. - Jason Toney
“I don't understand how Mark made it through without being in the bottom 2. I mean they are all good dancers at this point, but the other three are just better! *sighs*”
Yeah, I yelled at the TV when he wasn't in the bottom two. - Shannon Jiménez
he was as shocked as anyone. and did you see will's face when he found out that he WAS in the bottom two? it was some combo of a disbelieving yet smug look. - eviltom
What about Twitch's reaction? He was absolutely unprepared for the possibility that he was in the bottom two. If I hadn't already watched the episode, I'd be reading these comments and thinking someone was playing a trick on me. Actually, maybe they are... - Kevin Fox
Mark's my favorite but even I was shocked by the results. He should've been in bottom two with Joshua. Twitch and Will were the best the night before so it makes no sense. All this means is that Katie's got a clear path now to winning it all. Chelsea has a slim chance but not much. So done deal for SYTYCD. - paisano
I think it will be Twitch!! I think he's been the best all the way through. Since Will is gone I would say Katee would be next in line. - Rachel L Fox
It's not just a gaffe: McCain basically calls Obama an out of touch liar for stating something completely false, when McCain was actually clearly and demonstrably wrong. I'd love to know how strenuously McCain's handlers had to convince CBS to edit the response to cover over this huge mistake. - Kevin Fox
An endless stream of "gaffes" from a candidate who in fact has a weak grasp of many of the basic facts about international politics. There will be many more in the coming weeks and months -- you can bank on it. McCain is not getting any more lucid or better informed as he heads into his twilight years. - Sean McBride
CBS News is owned by Sumner Redstone, someone who probably needs no persuasion or cajoling to help John McCain every way he can. - Sean McBride
So what's the over/under on how long it takes for that video to be "no longer available"? - Keith Pelczarski
Has CBS offered any (f*cking) rationale for this? How can they possibly justify it? - Ayşe E.
Damn that liberal media ... er, um ... hold on ... wha?!? - AJ Kohn
Ah, what would Orwell say! But besides these more visible glitches there are deeper structural problems with many media channels, like the constant discussion of personalities over issues which can serve as a big distraction, and these problems seem less well uncovered in our spheres? - Philipp Lenssen
"Grim news for Merrill Lynch in the FT today: Executives have been informed that there will be no more private-jet travel, unless they really, really need to do it. That's right! No more attentive service and wet bar and those delicious crunchy things that Marquis serves every time they go anywhere. Turns out writing down $9 billion has a terrible price." - Dan Hsiao
Who still goes to the library anyway? (besides terrorists, obviously) Libraries (aka, "terrorist reading rooms") should all be made illegal, in order to preserve our freedom ;) - Paul Buchheit
My family is there on a weekly basis and the digital divide really necessitates that they stay in existence IMO. - AJ Kohn
I think libraries get all the attention because there isn't anyplace for your ISP to put up a similar sign, and they have a financial disincentive from doing so. - Kevin Fox
@paul: me. I think Amazon is a bit wasteful, most people probably read their books once and shelve them. Plus for $12/year you can't go wrong. - nadim
In case it isn't clear, I was attempting to be humorous. Kevin makes an important point though, the internet spying is a much bigger issue. - Paul Buchheit
nadim, your library charges you for membership? Or is that just what you rack up in overdue fines? - Sia Stewart
Paul, in a tough economy (that would be now), an awful lot more people go to the library! - Sia Stewart
@Paul: figured it was humor, but your original comment made it seem like you might not be. (We really need a universal sarcasm font.) - AJ Kohn
Sia, as a librarian I can assure you they are an awful lot (sorry, couldn't help myself)! - Patricia Hanrahan
After discovering the boxes and boxes of books in our storage container, I am committed to buying books through Kindle. - Chris White
Haven't been to a library in years. And terrorists do reveal themselves by hiring books on bomb making from thier friendly local library. Real smart, fellas!! - Roberto "Maverick" Bonini
@ nadim: It's the lucky books (from Amazon) that get read even once. - Clare Dibble
I like libraries and more generally the idea of sharing. This is a step in undermining libraries and free trade of information (like the internets). It has been said that it would be hard to start a library today if it were a new concept. Maybe this is a step in cutting libraries? - Clare Dibble
