Marc has been "innovating" the same thing for the past, what, seven years. I recall sitting on a cafe terrace with him in 2002 talking about the same things. Now, in 7 years some people released at least some modicum of code, proposed standards, and maybe a value proposition or two ... Marc seems to ride the high tide of "free beer tomorrow" longer than anyone else.

When Ed Balls phoned him last week demanding that he withdraw his post, Nelson wrote: "I thought he was joking: had there been some change to the constitution where ministers now have power over the media?" In fact the real power shift, exemplified by Fraser Nelson as much as anyone, has been in the way in which the oceanic expanses of the blogosphere have elevated the power of raw numbers and polemical energy over the power of political spin.

And it's for that reason that at a ridiculously early hour of the morning, despite my hatred of proper journalism, I picked up the phone and called Sam. Really, I had only one question for him: "Are you out of your fucking mind?" And given that he agreed to speak to me on the record, I can safely say the answer to that question is yes.
