The University of New Haven men's and women's basketball teams officially kicked off the 2009-10 season Thursday with their first practices and Midnight Madness at Charger Gymnasium. Both teams will spend the next month preparing for an opening day on November 15, 2009. The women's team will open at home against Dominican College on Sunday, November 15 at 2 p.m., while the UNH men hit the road for their first two games, against Molloy College on November 15 and American International College on November 18. The men's team opens their home schedule on Tuesday, November 24 against Assumption College.

The University of New Haven women's soccer team will be hosting Paint a Pumpkin Day at their Senior Day match this Saturday, October 17. The Chargers final home game is Saturday and they've invited children from around the community to come be a part of the fall festivities. Pumpkins will be available for children to paint during the game. Starting at 12 p.m., tables and pumpkins will be set up on the patio of New Hall or inside New Hall, weather pending.

The University of New Haven women's volleyball team is ranked third in the first NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings, which were announced earlier today by the national office. The Chargers, with a 14-4 record coming into this week, are ranked behind Dowling College and the University of Bridgeport who are first and second, respectively, in the region. Adelphi at 16-6 and Stonehill at 10-5, round out the top five.

The University of New Haven baseball team will play four games this fall in preparation for the 2010 spring season. On Monday, October 12 the Chargers host Brown University at Frank Vieira Field. The day will feature a doubleheader between the programs which also played last fall.

The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 2-1 Friday afternoon to Merrimack College at Kayo Field. The Chargers drop to 1-11 overall and 0-10 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Warriors improve to 7-4-1 overall and 5-2 in the NE-10.

The University of New Haven women's volleyball team received seven first place votes and 231 total points for a third place prediction in the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll. Bentley University received five first place votes and 242 points to be the NE-10 preseason favorites.
