FF was the cutting edge whereas FB is quickly becoming the mainstream. Unfortunately, the mainstream does not necessarily equal innovation and pushing the envelope. We all suffer when innovation is chilled. But on the other hand, congrats to the FF crew. They made their money!

This is a very sad day in friend feed history. It is horrible because I like friend feed for how it's different from face book. I use facebook but I find it really annoying and I wouldn't use it if my friends and family weren't using it. So if Friend Feed becomes another facebook then i donno if I will keep coming to friend feed.

Hmmm... I can see where some people would say this plays into the white devil stereotype, but likely only if one was the type of person to think metal music = the devil's music. Which is possibly the view of some of the current base, so yes I'm sure there are some that would find this offensive.

I thought you might disagree, but when you get outside the small crowd of early adopters, blogs remain top dog and will for some time. Blogs will remain the more prominent source for ideas, while conversations are reactive to that. My view, anyway.

I agree with Robert. The accelerating rate of change in these things is something to consider... it wasn't long ago that blogs were still considered to be something only early-adopters do... I think it will be an even shorter jump from there to social media aggregators being the hubs. I give it 2 years max.

I think we, as in most people bothering to talk about this on FriendFeed, tend to see too far into the future. Aggregators will change this, but not in the very near future.

I agree with Scoble... blogs will give way to Aggregation platforms like FriendFeed since this way the audience is provided more than just 1 service, but rather a smorgasbord of feeds/services - much richer content means more interest - hopefully more comments and traffic to follow

Aggregators have to aggregate something. Blogs will continue to be the source of long-form content to discuss in venues like this. But there will be fewer "casual" bloggers, who can get their networking fix from dropping comments in Twitter and FF. That's good news for the surviving bloggers (like me) ;-)

I think sites of all kinds are the hub. it's about the conversation. this era is really message board 2.0 - these kinds of things have existed around interests and like minds since the dawn on the web. nothing's changed now but larger adoption/use by mass market and more sophisticated, modern tools to do it. also different is that it exists in multiple forms - message board, social...

@Lindsay she doesn't really participate on friendfeed because she doesn't really "get" it. Her blog and Flickr she's fine with, and she's struggling on with twitter, but friendfeed is still a bit of a mystery.

robert :-D patricia, "message board 2.0" is really "campfire 12.0" -- assuming you count the campfire, the ecclesia in athens, the 17th century salon, the 18th century coffee house, the 20th century water cooler, etc. etc. -- anywhere people used to congregate to listen to interesting ideas and news and debate and entertainment.

Aggregation is not the devil. We need to try to make the web experience tighter for the users/audience/community because the sooner we do, we can benchmark better, market better, help them, use it better - all to the benefit of all. historically i belive the internet generation has been the most unsuccessful in adapting itself and people to a platform. radio, tv, etc. seem to have done...
