"So I think we should only get 3 honks a month on the car horn, because people honk the car horn too much. 3 honks, that's the limit. And then someone cuts you off, you press your horn and nothing happens. You're like 'SHIT, I wish I wouldn't have seen Ricky on the sidewalk!'" —Mitch Hedberg
The review says it's horrid. Starmama, come to Santa Cruz and get some "Vegan's Nightmare" ice cream from Marini's. Maple ice cream with bits of bacon in it. They also have chocolate covered bacon there.

I'm so overdue for a trip to S'Cruz. Haven't been since 2003! Never stayed away so long :) bacon ice cream is definitely on my list to try.

A poet-friend of mine just posted this on Facebook: "Okay, i know it's kinda lame for my first NY status update to be about seeing celebrities, but i just went to a poetry reading and MARY LOUISE PARKER was there. at a POETRY READING. i feel like the prom queen showed up at my dungeons & dragons club."
"When Apple looked at building an iPhone plant in the U.S., it couldn’t find enough engineers to oversee the production lines: Apple’s executives had estimated that about 8,700 industrial engineers were needed to oversee and guide the 200,000 assembly-line workers eventually involved in manufacturing iPhones. The company’s analysts had forecast it would take as long as nine months to find that many qualified engineers in the United States. In China, it took 15 days. In the piece, an anonymous Apple executive says the company “shouldn’t be criticized for using Chinese workers” because “the U.S. has stopped producing people with the skills we need.”"

One aspect to the equation the writer failed to factor in is that China also has a pop. of 1,349,020,000 as opposed to US pop. listed at 312,889,000 ..I am sure that has a strong bearing on availability of qualified labor..
- ☆彡Jazzy-B
i reasoned that point while reading the article ms ♧ᏓᎯᎦᎷᏐЙᏋ Ᏸ, but population numbers included or not, a business gonna have a really hard time matching that. also another point that stuck me in the article, china, a good work force for "spec production," ....
- chaz2b
yep...their production efficiency is hard to match here in the US...But the implication of not enough skilled labor...I think the companies really do like the idea of hiring labor that is willing to work more hours for less pay...that is, I believe, one of the prime motivating factors of US companies in stating"not enough skilled labor"...arn't they after all, in business to make...

Maybe it works for others but, for me, it's too demanding. If I were given that sheet and if I were compelled to think I had to answer all of those options immediately, I'd freeze. It's unorganic. When working on a story or a novel, there's no way you can know that much information about a character from the outset. I'd much prefer to write about a character and then adjust later as new realizations are made. This worksheet seems too stressful.
- Akiva
Why would you be compelled to answer all of it?
- Heather
Akiva: it may depend on experience and training. This kind of character profile is common usage in playwrighting and acting. Some find it useful.

Maybe I'm thinking about this from a non-writer perspective. One thing in UX design is that you don't want to present too many fields until the user has gotten deep enough that you can assume that they're wanting to fill out a detailed form. In other words, people tend to clam up or give up when presented with too long of a form that must be filled out. In this case, for me at least,...

Yes, I see how you are hard-wired to write novels. I mean that as a compliment :)
- Brent
My favorite thing about it is that since nothing is required and some may not even be relevant, you can fill out what you know you know and think about everything else. I say it's tweak-able because when you set it up for a character (or all the characters of a certain universe) you can delete anything that you feel you don't need. Plus, some irrelevant things might be fun to think...

YOU HAVE INSULTED ME, T. BRENT. LET'S HUG.
- Akiva
Heather, yeah, I get that and I can see how that would work for some people. Maybe even most people. But for me? It's just not tenable. Then again, I don't need to write while standing up or have rotting apples in my desk drawer.
- Akiva
I love it, if only because it gives me things to chew on, even if I dont fill it out in its entirety. Thank you for sharing!

I wonder if I'd find it more useful if I pared it down a bit. Or maybe made it a bit hierarchical; have a primary layer and then, if I wanted it, a secondary layer (and possibly a tertiary one) that I could add later on. This thing might actually be quite useful in Tinderbox...

Thanx, we discussed something like this at my writing group. My cast lists tend to be fairly detailed before i begin a work. Not to this extent but at least physical description, hometown, skillset, weapons. I also tend to map out the universe but that might just be avoidance time waster ;)

I have to learn the art of saying something off-the-wall that makes tons of people respond. I don't comment the entire day so people can get more bewildered, and then come in saying that it was really about something minor and stupid.
When I first came on to ff today, this is what I saw at the top of the feed. As I leave, it is at the top again. Thus, I both start and end the day smiling.

Last Sunday, I made a video to tell my FFriends the contents of this letter. I got emotional, I cried, I poured my heart out to FF. And then, after uploading the video, I discovered that the audio was off. Doh! Without further ado, my love letter to friendfeed. #SaturdayFF
It is humbling to realize a small gesture really does mean so much. If you need anything ANYTHING more, do not hesitate to ask.

You all are wonderful. Thank you so much. <3

I haven't been around here much lately, so I was not aware of the extent of your challenges. I knew that something had prompted you to acquire an new FF identity, and was concerned on that basis alone. Anyway, hang in there "Kelli"... you're an inspiration to me for your resolve. I know that will serve you well, even through times like this. Also know that you're not alone. [[[[Bear...

Maybe one day, I will create a more entertaining alter ego. For now, this is just me. Thank you, Chris.
