Happy FFBD! I have no idea when I signed up! - Janet

No idea. I cant even find the email now, maybe i trashed it :( - Simon Wicks
I know it's my 4th birthday on Last.fm next week, but they display it on the profile. It not really important, but it makes you realise how fast time goes... - Martin Bryant
my last.fm 4th year is in October, it actually seems more than that on there though. - Simon Wicks
Hey cool, Simon. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Not spent much of it here though :) - Simon Wicks
N00b! :) - Louis Gray
n00b, pfft :) - Simon Wicks
Happy FFbirthday, very glad to see you all - Manuela
Just checked my Wakoopa stats on friendfeed, which i started using well after i signed up here, still interesting to see its this high though: '6 days, 22 hours, 58 minutes and 49 seconds' Tracking started: 21 October 2008. 3rd most used thing with Firefox and MSN Messenger beating it. Not including times like now when im not on my computer.. - Simon Wicks
Don't argue with Grampa (Louis) Gray. He started it back when iPods still had those circle dialy thingamabobs. - Josh Haley
Looks like June 9th will be my year. - Tendonitis' Bitch

"Why Aren’t More People Using RSS?" Answer: it's too geeky and doesn't offer non-news junkes enough value - http://hightalk.net/2009...
"Why Aren’t More People Using RSS?" Answer: it's too geeky and doesn't offer non-news junkes enough value
I might argue that people are using it in more ways then just through an RSS reader. Just look at FF for example, it depends pretty heavily on RSS. We also see p2p software now including RSS for video. Trying to define it only as a news phenomenal is too narrow. - Davis Freeberg
I like RSS more than Twitter :) - yagami
I still use it plenty. - Steve Rubel from email
i feed about 300 blogs through Google Reader. Yes, I might have an illness. - Shawna Benson
Make me Master of the Universe and I can make it less geeky. Seriously. If I could get developers to drop their paranoia, we could make it easy. And get the BigCo's to cough up a few bucks to operate a subscription server. That's the hard part. Going from "I want to subscribe to this" to actually subscribing. The subscription process needs to be centralized. - Dave Winer
"too geeky" is code for badly marketed. - AJ Kohn
No, "too geeky" means too complicated. - Dawn
@Dave, in some ways, isn't Google becoming the master server for RSS content? Newsgator pretty much today announced all of their main RSS clients will soon sync with Google Reader. - Steve Rubel from email
A lot of people still don't use tabbed browsing. We take a lot for granted. - Steve Rubel from email
RSS being too hard is bogus. In FF, the act of subscribing to a feed is the same as bookmarking as a site. People don't subscribe for the same reason they don't bookmark -- they just don't care. And that's why people search for "yahoo" rather than going to yahoo.com. - Andy Bakun
It doesn't feel as personal as something like Twitter or FriendFeed. Most items that can be received via RSS can also be discovered via FF or Twitter...only thru the latter two, it has a social element to it. - Team Frosick
@Dawn: No, sit down with a non-RSS user and explain what RSS really is and how easy it is to use and they usually fall in love. It could use some better UX but really just the freaking acronym is confusing. Blogs on Demand or TiVo for blogs or BlogFlix and it would dawn on people that content can come to them instead of the other way around. - AJ Kohn
Most people are happy with the browsing for content paradigm. So if a person has no problem with the status quo then there's no incentive to even investigate RSS, let alone switch to it. But I would have thought that the explosion of sites like YouTube and Flickr would have really made more out of the possibilities of RSS. But RSS is always an add-on and never an exciting feature. - Scott Wilder
In France, we don't have an "average Joe"; we have a "Madame Michu"(like average Joe's aunt, you see?). And I've been complaining about the fact that it was IMPOSSIBLE for Madame Michu to understand what "RSS" could mean, since she doesn't really fully understand what "browsing" means. - Zackatoustra
I guess that we("geekly litterate people") have failed bringing the power of RSS to the people(and Madame Michu). Mme Michu doesn't care about "Valid RSS feed". But still, she appreciate the stuff that happens when an update of her son status on facebook happens. Soon, she'll be thrilled to see tweets poping up, and, still, she won't give a shoe for a clear defintion of "the so-simple subscription paradigm". - Zackatoustra
RSS is a must for anyone who wants to follow the topics of interest. I don't understand the point people try to make when they say that RSS is dead and Twitter etc is where they read their news. Sign up for Google Reader, subscribe to sites you visit and that will save you a lot of time and make you much more productive. - Marko Saric
I abandoned Google Reader last year. Too much crap and not enough social filtering. - Thomas Hawk
Thomas, what do you use primarily now? - © b e e n s w a n k
Agree with Davis Freeberg. RSS powers widgets and wordpress plugins and whatnot that bring weather, news, tweetstreams, etc., onto websites. So, people are reading stuff delivered by RSS (or in some cases APIs), they just don't know it. - Laura Norvig
Twitter is talking about being like electricity. I think RSS operates in a similar fashion. It is already invisible YET it powers much of what we do here. So questions of adoption miss the point to me - it's already adopted. How public should a 'protocol' be? That's the question here...and it might apply to Twitter too, I think... - Keven Elliff
@Keven Elliff, spot on. Sure, people aren't gushing about RSS in their blog posts, but their blogs almost universally have an RSS feed anyhow. RSS is ubiquitous (on the Web, at least). You're right. It comes down to how we use this tool. - Michael Becker
The thing I that I don't like about the RSS process is that it is just not real time. The way it is currently deployed I have to have a tool that regularly polls a whole bunch of sites at infrequent times to determine if anything has changed. That just isn't fast enough - and if I poll fast enough (and everybody else does the same) to satisfy my real time wants it breaks the delivering... more... - Brian Sullivan
I like AJ's comment: "Sit down with a non-RSS user and explain what RSS really is and how easy it is to use and they usually fall in love." I've seen this, too. But I think we're missing another root cause: big sites haven't figured out how to please those of us that want full, ad-free (or ad-lite) RSS feeds, which means they get way less ad placement compared to you visiting their website. Therefore, they bury the "what's RSS?" content (see NYTimes) and they don't help the average Joe/Michu figure out RSS. - Jeremy Schultz
In other words, successful RSS feeds equals less ad revenue for a big site, so why do that? Just a theory... (I know some sites use/try placing ads in RSS, but maybe just posting a summary versus full text is an option.) - Jeremy Schultz
My entire business is based on RSS. No RSS, no podcasts. - Leo Laporte
lots of people use RSS feeds or they get their content via RSS feed, they just don't know it or care. - PC Easy from twhirl
I think RSS is a miracle, yet I can think of very few people I know that seem to be aware of it's for. - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
I totally love RSS. I rarely actually "surf" the web. My biggest issue is to decide whether to use gReader or NNW ;-) - Sven
I can't see living without my Google RSS feed! I follow over 200 blogs, news & information sites using RSS. It is indispensable in my opinion. - Jeff P. Henderson
RSS is not difficult to use. I just think that your average Joe six-pack has no idea what RSS is or how it could benefit them. I know many people who visit multiple web sites every day to see what is new. If they only knew that they could have custom tailored news delivered to them in one place, most people would be very happy to use it. - Jeff P. Henderson
Because all I do on the internet is check my official mails :| - Rohit
I think it certainly could be more user-friendly. - debegray
100% agreed. I can't live without my RSS feeds, its how I start my day with coffee, I am a total junkie. On the flip side, while I have show my wife how, and she has agreed it is awesome, she just doesn't use the net like that and wont do the 2 seonds of admin it takes to enjoy them. - Bush Williams from Alert Thingy
Agreed. Tech people need to take a cue from Apple. Simple = better adoption, period. - Patricia
I find Google's Chrome lack of support for RSS a concern, you have no way to know a site/page has an RSS link, without going into the source with Chrome...why is this? when every other browser, even Chrome's source Safari does, and the worst browser of all, Internet Explorer has done for ages. Really for the average user, they should not need to understand RSS, it should just work,... more... - Carl Grint
I still find it amazing that Delicious or StumbleUpon doesn't have some sort of flag that will ask if you want to subscribe to the site you are bookmarking or giving a thumbs up to. They could even white-label a RSS reader and put their brand all over it. Talk about a way to keep a customer and get them hooked on RSS. - AJ Kohn
I spoke about RSS on a radio station a month or so back. Clip is available at http://andypiper.wordpress.com/2009... I made the same point that many people are "using" RSS without realising it - through various online apps and mashups, through FF, Twitter and other tools. - Andy Piper
I take a Jacob Neilson-esque view of it: RSS offers too much content that overwhelms people. It's why they like Twitter, which forces users to ruthlessly shorten their descriptions. - Maxwell Kennerly
I can't speak to the people who aren't, but I still love RSS and consider it a primary if not the primary source of news for me. - Martha
Wanna explode the use of RSS? Make bookmarks (favorites) RSS subscriptions rather than static HTML. Just bake it right into the browser. Non-technical users needn't have any understanding of RSS beyond a gold star in their favorites folder. But they'll appreciate having relevant information being presented to them after a single click. - Chris Baskind
Chris - to some extent that is already happening although very subtly - Safari 4's recent sites view uses RSS to mark sites as changed, and you don't even have to bookmark them. It's only a few steps from here to showing the RSS content as a 'preview'. - Robin Barooah
Yep, I think you're partly right. But, in a sense, that sucks. Because that means that we "litterate internet users" won't be able to "explode the use of RSS". Only browsers makers(Microsoft, Mozilla, Opera, Applel) can thus make the revolution move? That's a shame. But, as mentionned many times before in this thread, we do not need to use the term "RSS", or even "Syndication". Those... more... - Zackatoustra from email
11% in 2008? I wonder what the figure is now. I'm surprised that people consider that to be 'low' - it seems pretty gigantic to me when you consider how complex it is compared to say, Google. Also, even the best feed readers essentially have no real tools for managing the potential overload. - Robin Barooah

Hey There! Tony La Russa Is Suing Twitter. - http://www.techcrunch.com/2009...
Hey There! Tony La Russa Is Suing Twitter.
Tony La Russa, the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball franchise is suing Twitter claiming that someone is pretending to be him on the site. Of course, he could have just asked the service to take that fake account down — something which it does fairly regularly — but instead, the suit filed last month in the Superior Court of California in San Francisco seeks “unspecified damages.” Twitter has since taken down the fake account. - (jeff)isageek from Bookmarklet

"Wherever there are gadgets, RSS feed readers are never lacking, and Google Desktop gadgets are no exception. Until now, there hasn't been a good way to combine all your feeds into a single gadget. With the new Google Reader gadget, you can now track your feeds and Google Reader subscriptions directly from your desktop. The Google Reader gadget is designed to be familiar for existing Reader users, yet compact like our other Desktop gadgets" - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
I think I'll stick with GReader in a Chrome window. - Kol Tregaskes
Why are they still developing this product? They keep saying that the future is "in the browser": can they recycle those gadgets for Android, Chrome or NaCl? Do they just keep building an army of loyal programmers? Did they forget Desktop in the mass killing of January? - Jérôme Flipo

I am now switching over to make friendfeed my official twitter client.
Why? - Tadhg Kelly
because friendfeed rocks!!! thats why :) - (jeff)isageek
seriously though...I am using friendfeed more and more and now with saved searches I can create friends lists and pull just their twitter messages and follow them like i would with tweetdeck or whatever. once saved searches go real time that will be awesome! - (jeff)isageek
plus if someone is not signed up for friendfeed or not streaming their twitter posts...no problem...just create an imaginary friend and there you go! - (jeff)isageek
I'll join you this week, when I start back Twitter-ing. been on friendfeed only since sat. yes it rocks! - Wayne Sutton from BuddyFeed
jeff what about mobile/iphone updates that you want to post on friendfeed then to twitter ? I'm using buddyfeed now and don't think there is a way... - Wayne Sutton from BuddyFeed
wayne yeah that would be one mobile limitation of using friendfeed as your twitter client at this time that I can think of. without saying every posted message via friendfeed goes to twitter I dont think that is possible. - (jeff)isageek
what would be kool is if friendfeed would add like a switch command like say #tw or something that tells the system. ok post this via my mobile to friendfeed but also post it to twitter. - (jeff)isageek
as a matter of fact i think i will add that to the friendfeed feedback as an option i would like to see - (jeff)isageek
Yeah, it already is half way there for me as well. I don't have too many imaginary friends though, but I'm with you on this. - Parth Awasthi
the other issue with twitter messages is obviously to get the @ replies they would have to be one of your friends. so you might have to check twitter.com from time to time to see if someone you are not following @ messaged you. you could grab the rss feed of twitter search but it doesnt show you the name of the person who sent the message in the rss feed. - (jeff)isageek
Today, I unfollowed anyone on twitter who had an FF account, and subscribed to them here. Down to 100 people. One of them joined FF, but he made a good point when he said FF needed more effort than twitter (initially, at least). People need to setup a personal "system" (lists + filters) before they can reap the advantages FF has over twitter. - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Ahsan yes...I think people who say friendfeed sucks or dont understand how it can help them have not found the saved searches. those things are really key to getting so much more out of friendfeed then watching your home stream fly by. - (jeff)isageek
Do you think it would be a good idea for FF to provide a "template" of sort ? I think they provided some default lists in the old site, perhaps they should provide some group subscriptions, some default, common filters ? - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
i think really the main thing is just us the friendfeed junkies blogging and just talking about how awesome the saved searches are and how powerful they can be. - (jeff)isageek
i think if your average user or even power user who is not familiar with them see's and hears about them in action they will be like wow that is a great feature and a reason to use friendfeed other then to create a stream of all your activities - (jeff)isageek
Hmm. Is there a useful guide anywhere that explains how to set this up? I'd be interested to try it out but find a lot of how friendfeed works kind of complicated and I don't usually have the time to dig into it. - Tadhg Kelly
Tadhg if you are looking for info on the saved search stuff i recommend checking out the FF saved searches group http://friendfeed.com/ffss as well as bwana did a great show on the power of them http://sn.im/gdmxs - (jeff)isageek
In fact, if you think about it FF doesn't have one killer feature as such. Lists, Discussions, Searches, Likes - they're all subtle tools that can be used in diverse ways. I guess we just need to demonstrate them to our friends. - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
I think this whole discussion is a prime example of how much communicating with a large group is so much better on friendfeed then twitter. can you imagine coming in 5 messages ago and getting what has all been said by following @ replies and we could never have the threaded conversation and long responses. - (jeff)isageek
1up jeff - BEX
I would be 100% on FriendFeed now if I weren't running a service that had Twitter support. It's a much more cozy environment. - Jesse Stay
i hear ya jesse I really liked your blog post about using twitter with gmail and started using it. great way to do it...but it all came back to me wanting to get as much as I can into friendfeed and staying at this great place :) - (jeff)isageek
Next step, turn off Twitter on FriendFeed! Weaning yourself from the tit - er twitter - is painful but strangely satisfying. - Leo Laporte
Twitter is the worst part of friendfeed! As people have said, it's the little differences that make ff what it is! - Chris Lloyd
that would be a big step leo. I dont know if i am ready to go that far yet. I still have a lot of friends who use twitter that i want to keep in touch with so for now I will stick around there :) but i am slowly making the move towards what you are saying for sure. - (jeff)isageek
Jeff, you could post from here, turn off your Twitter stream (since it would be duplicate content anyway), and use TweetBeep to track mentions of your name. No more Twitter. :-) - Jesse Stay
If you use PeopleBrowsr you don't need to switch. Just open a stack with your friendfeed. You can make combined lists from both twitter and friendfeed in PeopleBrowsr - Svartling
some good thoughts there jesse!! hmmm - (jeff)isageek
svartling i have started playing around with PeopleBrowsr a bit. need to check it out some more. - (jeff)isageek
There are just _too_ many tools now, seesmic, peoplebrowsr, tons of websites that do things atop twitter.... - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
And I mean that in a negative sense. - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Ahsan yeah there are a few tools out there :) plus with different services out there it can make for an interesting plan of attack to keep up with everyone. - (jeff)isageek
wow this has really turned into a big discussion :) - (jeff)isageek
I'm with Jeff on this one. And probably the biggest reason is the quality of the content and users on FF. I over followed a ton of people on Twitter, and it's kinda too much work do go in and unfollow a bunch of people. So, I'm finding myself more in FF. And, it's easier to find good users via the comments they leave and the rooms they belong to. (However, I will admit that I could do some of that in Twitter via searches. But I'd still have to do all that unfollowing) - Bill Bittner
my only thing about peoplebrowsr is I am trying to get away from things like tweetdeck or whatever. and just have friendfeed as my base of social web operations. - (jeff)isageek
Jesse, can you point TweetBeep directly to FF via the email feed or does it need to verify the address? - CAJ, somewhere else
jesse back to your thought of killing my twitter stream on friendfeed...I feel like that should be up to people who follow me. if they dont want my twitter posts or want to get rid of the duplication then they can hide those entries. but I feel like I should supply all my streams here and let everyone do with it what they want. - (jeff)isageek
i think with tweetbeep you can grab an rss feed cant you jesse? - (jeff)isageek
i grabbed the rss feed from tweetbeep and basically since it just uses twitter search to get its data it never shows who the tweet was from without clicking it. so i couldnt pull that rss feed in here and see oh hey so and so just @ replied me without taking extra steps. now the email funtionality does show you the user you @ replied you. - (jeff)isageek
interesting idea there about the email feed though alan but yeah i think when i signed up for tweetbeep i had to verify the email address - (jeff)isageek
Well, the Twitter search rss gives you a direct link to the tweet, which contains the person's nick: http://twitter.com/persons... - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Jeff, I'm testing it out now. Stand by! - CAJ, somewhere else
yeah but Ahsan it would be nice to just see it in your friendfeed stream or whatever and just know who it was from rather then having to click away from the service - (jeff)isageek
Jeff, but if your Twitter stream is exactly the same as your FriendFeed stream is there really reason to keep it? - Jesse Stay
point taken Jesse - (jeff)isageek
Alan, you can add the RSS I think - haven't tried. I prefer e-mail because it ensures I don't miss anything. - Jesse Stay
ah forget it I think I am just gonna move everything back to myspace :) - (jeff)isageek
jesse and thinking about your idea of just pulling your twitter feed if someone really wanted to have my twitter feed for filtering purposes they could just create and imaginary me and pull the data that way. - (jeff)isageek
Hmmm, so tweetbeep notification made it into FF okay by changing my email in tweetbeep to iphwin@friendfeed.com (http://friendfeed.com/iphwin...). However, it didn't show any information about who it came from. Well, unless because *I* sent it, it shows from me. lol, that make any sense? - CAJ, somewhere else
ok i went ahead and pulled my twitter posts from my friendfeed profile. - (jeff)isageek
PeopleBrowser can be overwhelming in the beginning, but when you get it, you will never use anything else. I'm both a Twitter and FriendFeed freak and this tool is perfect for both. Plus much more. You can even get blogsearch streams and other RSS Feeds in realtime! - Svartling
Svartling that is pretty kool but I still think going that route means I have to give up time on the actual friendfeed site which is what I am striving to do with the changes I am making and bringing both twitter and friendfeed together the best I can here at FriendFeed.com - (jeff)isageek
Ok. I understand but you can do that in PeopleBrowsr too ;) But I know what you mean. Good luck. - Svartling
but I will keep playing around with PeopleBrowsr too though. I might find it to be a better fit after a few days :) I am all about trying new things and new ideas. that is what is great about this whole conversation...bouncing ideas off of each other...talking about our thoughts and ideas on this little subject, ect. - (jeff)isageek
Yeah that's true. I just want to let you know that PeopleBrowsr exists as an Adobe AIR app too if you prefer that. I prefer the web version. - Svartling
Jeff just got 4 stars in my book. :-) - Jesse Stay from email
haha well good to know Jesse :) - (jeff)isageek
If it werent for friendfeed, my twitter account would still be rotting away. - Ron Wening
My experiments with tweetbeep ended in a wash. There didn't seem to be any advantage to using that service (feeding into FF via email) and using a custom RSS feed from Twitter Search. So, I'll keep the RSS feed going to my Twitter Friends group and continue with my regularly scheduled program, already in progess. - CAJ, somewhere else
just checking out www.flock.com - Dominik Schneider
with some development and add ons this could be a great alternative to friendfeed (or friendfeed will be integrated into flock) - Dominik Schneider
FWIW: We are adding additional FriendFeed functionality into PeopleBrowsr this week "Home" feed and "My Discussions" were added last night, and live-testing today. We expect to have even more functionality (Lists and Rooms) coming in the very near future. Please let us know what you think when you try it :-) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I recently made the switch too - Johnny
I'm just not sure you can really make FriendFeed into a full featured twitter client. You don't see everything. I even bring in a feed of my @replies from search.twitter, but those are of limited use since I can't actually use them to communicate with people who aren't FriendFeed users. or am I just missing something? - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Good move - congratulations - - LPH™ and his dog P™
Rob, if you check "Include entry description as a comment" on that custom RSS feed it'll show who it's from. You could then start a new post with a @reply to that person. Very kludgey, eh? - CAJ, somewhere else
Never got really in love with Twitter, but i grow to like FriendFeed more and more each day. - Ralph
Alan: yes I could go through a bunch of hoops to do it, just seems too much trouble - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob, since we as users can manage a workaround, I'm hoping that the FriendFeed folks could figure something more streamlined and automatic. - CAJ, somewhere else
While at one point I might have agreed with you Alan, I've since become a heavy believer in the multi-network "social-desktop" client, and prefer all my data to come in through a single window. To effectively FriendFeed requires more screens than I have. I find the FF web site basically insufficient for this reason. With access to my Lists and the Rooms I'm subscribed to, I'll get more... more... - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
yeah, good call - i switched to only ff awhile ago and ignored twitter but now the two tools are mostly seamless together - mike "glemak" dunn
i love using friendfeed more, too! - Egyirba
Nice move! - Nicholas James
Most of my friends on Twitter are not on FF so I have them as Imaginary Friends. This is OK for reading their tweets. Also it gets round the recent @reply changes by Twitter. I can again see their @replies to other people I don't follow. BUT, I can't have FF conversations involving them because they are not on FF. Also I can't see who my twitter friends replies are directed to and then... more... - By_tor
By_tor, migrate them to Friendfeed. - Ryo / Fuck Facebook
try setting up an rss feed of your @name_twitter - mike "glemak" dunn
Very interesting discussion over here about making FriendFeed your Twitter client. While I've thought about it in the past, there are some serious drawbacks. I'd much rather be able to import my full "with friends" RSS feed from Twitter and do some serious keyword filtering on it (have played around with using Thunderbird - Mozilla's Email client - for that purpose using the message... more... - Alex Schleber
I've done this for a few months, although sometimes I get sucked into a discussion (sometimes local folks, sometimes a customer, or potenial customer) back on Twitter. (But this starts with Twitter searches aggregated by FriendFeed.) Having a conversation is more important than choice of software, especially when the software costs nothing. - Wade Dorrell
I started setting up imaginary friends yesterday for folks on Twitter who don't have a FF account. I did about 50 of them yesterday. I must have hit a limit because after a certain point I wasn't allowed to create any new groups. I kept getting an Access Denied page. Anyone know what the daily limit on creating groups is? - Mark Wilson
The biggest problem with using FF as my Twitter client is not being able to create imaginary friends for folks who have protected Twitter accounts. I have a number of people I follow who have their accounts locked down. This doesn't help me to use FF as a Twitter client. - Mark Wilson
Mark not sure about the limitations thing. guess i have been lucky and everyone I follow pretty much is setup on friendfeed so i only had to create a handful of imaginary ones. - (jeff)isageek
yeah protected accounts can cause an issue as well. as you know already :) - (jeff)isageek
I basically don't have people from FF on Twitter. I figure if you're here, I'll read your tweets here. I can DM you here so I don't add you on Twitter. It made reading my Twitter feed easier but it's a nightmare to create all these imaginary friends. Come on FF, make it easier! - Mark Wilson
Yes Mark I agree, one thing FF could do to help people migrate from Twitter is a one-step process to turn all your Twitter followers who are not also on FF into Imaginary friends. A solution to the locked twitter accounts would also be useful although I don't have any of them. It also slightly annoys me that when you post on FF the copy sent to twitter has a FF link at the end. Anyway of disabling that? - By_tor

"I sometimes have trouble when I’m talking to people at work who aren’t savvy with this whole Web 2.0 thing we’ve got going on here. I use the words Social Networking for some instances and Social Media in others. I don’t explain the differences because to most laypeople, there is none and really, when I start to go into my theory, eyes glaze over and my colleagues suddenly find that the coffee truck must be outside the building somewhere and they have to hurry or Bob from accounting is going to take the last corn muffin." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
"But since this is the bread and butter of many of the people reading this right now, I think it’s safe to assume we can skip the gory details and get right into the meat of things. First, is there a difference between Social Media and Social Networking websites? Yes. And no. And it depends." - Kol Tregaskes
"There is a big distinction in the terms Social Networking and Social Media. While many use these two terms interchangeably, you can separate them and the websites that represent one or another or even both effectively." - Kol Tregaskes
It's a Venn diagram. Social media is the content, social networking is the relationship & conversation, social bookmarking is leaving links. like any good venn diagram they do intersect - Liam Delahunty

Thanks Amani - I believe that's what the quote says LOL But the heartache and constant reminders serves as my strength to keep things in perspective. They wouldn't want me wallowing but living my life to the fullest. Especially my mom. :) - Mona Nomura from IM
Amani: I don't agree with that. The love of my life died three days before our 25th wedding anniversary, when he was just 46 years old. That was close to three years ago now. While I still miss him like crazy and do still cry every now and then, that ache in my heart used to always be there and now almost never is. Heartache does heal, for the most part. I agree with "Life is unfair"... more... - Dawn
Well Dawn, perhaps it is different for different people. For me I lost my dad suddenly going on five years from now and I see and hear constant reminders every day which brings back some of the heartache. At times it is stronger than others. Keep in mind I live 3,000+ miles away now and the pain still is there at times. I don't wallow in it, but I don't ignore it either. I think the death of a loved one (especially a sudden one) is one of the hardests test in life. And Mona - you are right, hang in there. - Amani
Even if death is not sudden, it can be painful, and the effects long-lasting. Mona, I hope you're able to rest and sleep tonight. My prayers are with you and your friend's family. - John E. Bredehoft from fftogo

Jeremiah, I fear that you may break the conversation by encouraging people to comment your blog post on messages like this one, instead of the original entries in FF from your blog feed. For instance, all the comments above don't appear on your blog. Thus, if you intend to tweet and friendfeed your blog post, comments will be lost in the microblogsphere and won't aggregate in your blog. - Jérôme Flipo
Thanks Jerome. Technically comments here wouldn't appear, only on the actual blog post items that flow into the FF river. - Jeremiah Owyang
I stumbled upon this today: http://www.ubervu.com/ Haven't got an invite yet but it seems like it can connect the microblogging comments to the blog. might be helpful. It's supported by disqus but I haven't seen it in action yet. - cathycracks
love the integration of social media in the new design. in the "connect with jeremiah" section, The FF icon is square instead of round like the other ones. this stands out for me. Also, might be nice to cluster the subscribe RSS call-to-action with subscribe with email. either move RSS to sidebar or move the email up. more consistent information flow. - cathycracks
Thanks Cathy. Mitch should be able to fix the rounded corner icon dealio - Jeremiah Owyang
Nice and clean new site. Great job. A couple of small suggestions. I actually missed the Connect with Jeremiah bar because its in the site header. Partly from banner burnout on other sites. Would move down to right column. Would agree with Nicholas about moving the counters and reader numbers higher up although you are so well known I'm not sure if its absolute people have to see the... more... - 8chocolate
Overall, it looks...well, "safe". I think the title is very light/thin in the font department, so it gets a little bit lost. - Steve Woodruff
I like the theme, it's strong without being overpowering. Blue is still a wise choice since you are primarily in the enterprise space. The new logo works beautifully. I think you have a winner in the overall banner. The body content, though, still needs some refinement. The two text links (vie a video and to 'designer challegenge' give the impression that we've jumped into the middle of the site. Especially since you have the latest Twitter entry in the bar above. Too many place to go without context. - Kit Seeborg
Do very many readers use the chronological list of archives? I would move the categories up and get rid of chrono, unless you see that people use them a lot. change "hit to enter search" to "search this site" or similar. And in the right column there should be a list or badges for your upcoming speaking gigs. I'd put the RSS feed and the Subscribe links together so people can choose either/or. That goes for RSS to jobs as well. The way your "connect" links is perfect. Do the same with "subscribe" options. - Kit Seeborg
Very helpful, thanks Chocolate. Steve. Kit, I know you're from design, and a friend of mine, I take your advice seriously, thanks! - Jeremiah Owyang
I'm on the fence about the length of the home page, especially since your articles are medium to long, and you get a lot of comments. Would be good if you could get readers into the site, with a 'read similar posts' or something. I'm interested to see how it looks with an image or video imbedded in this home page post. Overall, looking really really good! - Kit Seeborg
Oh, and I looked at it Camino and Safari, both look good. Although Camino doesn't list the Archives and Categories unless I click on the arrows. Maybe that's intentional - can't tell. If it is, you should do the same for Job listings. I would group Archives, Categories and Jobs together - move the subscribe box. - Kit Seeborg
The layout is great because of the way the different services are integrated. - LPH™ and his dog P™
Kit - there's a jQuery selector on the categories and archives. You have to click on them to show it - Jeremiah has a lot of stuff and we wanted to showcase it but keep it out of the way when people are more worried about current content. You can click on those arrows to expand the lists. - Mitch Canter
Jeremiah - that was my experience. I missed the Twitter icon on your Connect bar, was surprised about that. Then I realized your account was available via the latest tweet. Agree that Twitter should be on your Connect section. - Hutch Carpenter
Hutch. Done, Mitch put the twitter icon on the connect bar, THANK YOU! - Jeremiah Owyang

It is a known fact that many people read reviews before buying products. People feel better buying a product or a service if they have read reviews about it.
