DO ANYBODY NO WHY I'M ABOUT TO WATCH A MOVIE THAT WILL LIKELY SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME?
rec.jpg
Nope. No clue whatsoever. - Bruce Lewis
Y'all are gonna be here, right, in case I get too scared? RIGHT? - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Sorry, I'm going to sleep. - Bruce Lewis
I've never understood why people do that... (watch scary movies, not go to sleep) - Spidra Webster
Anyway, who's going to help you not be scared? The Seattle woman with the hacksaw, or that Austrailan dude with an eye patch? - Bruce Lewis
i prefer a bow saw, makes for easier work. ...what? - Joe Silence is not dead
So far you guys are scarier than the movie. But I'm only...three minutes in. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
No, why are you watching it before bed? - John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Well, it's only 8pm. I won't go to be before midnight, which is kind of why I wanted to watch it tonight. If I watch it any other day of the week, I probably wouldn't be able to start it as early. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Reporter-girl is pretty cute. Trying not to get attached, though. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I keep forgetting about the three-hour time difference.. - John (a.k.a. dendroica)
REC? Is that the name of it? - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
"Just when you thought it was save to operate your VCR again.." - Spidra Webster
Is the subtitle EXAM? - Micah Wittman
LOL. Yeah, [REC] is the actual title, with the brackets. It's a 2007 Spanish film, remade last year in the US as Quarantine. Spidra, isn't that The Ring? :p - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
That was kind of awesome, actually. Mostly scary for the last twenty minutes or so, and even then, not really too bad. Sometimes I think I psych myself out about scary movies - usually they're not as scary as I imagine they will be. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Okay, just watched the brief trailer for the remake Quarantine - it looks like it's the EXACT SAME THING except in English. Same camera setups, same blocking, same sets, everything. WTF is the point of that? - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Cuz stupid Amurikans don't understand foreign films. - LogEx
But if you're going to remake it, why not put some of your own spin on it? Even the remake of Let the Right One In is doing SOMETHING (i.e., taking all the lovely ambiguity out, but whatever). A shot-for-shot remake one year later is the most pointless thing in existence. See the original, people. Don't support Hollywood stupidity. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Rec was simply great. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly made it so scary, but it just was. I watched it in the dark by myself. Jumped out of my skin a couple of times... whew. The remake was just "cover band" material... big fat meh. I will confess though, that I saw the Ring prior to the OG version and enjoyed the Ring better... o.O - Adrian
Adrian, I also liked The Ring better than Ringu. I blame my difficulty with Japanese cinema, though. It's really hard for me to get into for some reason. But [Rec] was really good. And yeah, after I wrote that it wasn't scary, I got up and glanced down my very dark hall and shook myself up a little bit. And turned on all the lights. :) - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Loved [REC]! One damn fine scary movie. - Louis Simoneau
[REC] Rocks! Jandy, the point of Quarantine was simple, stupid American audiences can't read subtitles so we have to coddle them. Even so if I'm remembering Quarantine right they did change the ending slightly, I'm not sure if I should what though it could be spoiler-ish. - Joe Pierce
@EricVespe Stop! You'll make me want to watch it RIGHT NOW, and I have to get up and go to work in a few hours. Preferably with sleep first.

I can't believe I've never written about The Thin Man on my blog. What is WRONG with me?
Great. Now I'm supposed to be writing a tiny blurb for the Film on TV post and I want to write, like, pages and pages. I may have a Cinema Classics: The Thin Man post in my future.... - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF

Netflix has 60+ Pink Panther cartoons on Instant Watch! WIN. I wish they had The Jetsons. I get random cravings for The Jetsons that Instant Watch would be perfect for. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF from Bookmarklet
Cleaning out my palate after [Rec] with a little Looney Tunes. How much do I love Chuck Jones? THIS MUCH <------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> More than that, really, but I'm not working with infinite space here.

Incidentally, Amazon.com is having a Black Friday event all week (which kind of goes against the name, but whatevs), and from 4-8pm TOMORROW, the first Looney Tunes Golden Collection is on sale for $14.99. That's an incredible bargain, for four discs of the best cartoons every made. http://www.amazon.com/gp.... Too bad it's the only one of the Golden Collection sets I already own. :/ - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I don't care what anybody says - the moment in "Feed the Kitty" when Marc Anthony takes the kitten-shaped cookie and puts it on his back, bawling because he thinks his kitten is dead, is one of the most moving moments in all of cinema. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jandy, I'm tearing up thinking about that bit! - WorldofHiglet
Chuck Jones is my favorite WB director as well. Even though WB cancelled the Golden Collection series, it is well worth buying up the 6 volumes that they managed to do before the cancellation. - Spidra Webster
Spidra, I knew they'd gotten up to 5 volumes, but wasn't aware of the sixth. Thanks! How many more were they slated to do? They had already crammed most of my favorites into the first three volumes or so, I think. And Jones is amazing. His toons manage to both have the funniest sight gags and the most heart at the same time. I also like a lot of Freleng and Clampett's work, and I really like Tex Avery, though most of his best stuff was done at MGM. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
WoH, I've seen that short probably twenty times, and I always cry at that part. ALWAYS. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Wow nice find - Rodfather
They didn't have it all plotted out but they were doing such a good job on the Golden Collection (as well as programming them gradually so that they were a mix of hits with lesser-known fare) that I think people thought they'd just continue until they finished. But apparently they didn't sell as well as Warner Home was hoping. Supposedly they'll still digitally restore more films and issue them in collections but it might be a lot more haphazard from now on. - Spidra Webster
Vol. 6 might disappoint you if you're hoping for classic LT. It's good stuff, but it's really early stuff for the most part. Still, there are some really entertaining things in that collection. It's the only volume I don't own yet and that's because I had lost my source of income by the time it came out. Actually, looking at the list you still have Herr Meets Herr, Russian Rhapsody and... more... - Spidra Webster
I like everything, and one thing I liked was that it seemed by vol 4 and 5 or so they were delving into a good bit of really lesser known and rare stuff, and I love that. I'd definitely like to have them someday. But as far as what I go back to and watch over and over, it's generally the more familiar ones, so I want them FIRST. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Ooh, that vol. 6 one has some Bosko shorts on it. I've heard of Bosko, but I don't think I've ever seen any shorts that feature him. Now you have me lusting after these things, Spidra. :p - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Here's a detailed review of Vol. 6 http://forum.bcdb.com/forum... - Spidra Webster
I'm having trouble finding the post right now, but someone posted a list of WB shorts that were issued as cartoon appetizers on DVD issues of classic WB movies. I think there are some on that list that have not been reissued in any other way yet. There are at least a couple hardcore WB animation fan forums on the 'net and those guys know why more than I do about what was issued and what is rumored to be coming. - Spidra Webster
Just looked at the contents of all the collections - yeah, I'm gonna need all of those. Dear Amazon, please to be having all of the other collections on sale for $14.99. KTHXBAI. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
If you have a Costco by you, check them out. At this time of year, it's likely they'll have them for $20 apiece. My mom actually called me from Costco to ask if I wanted any. Unfortunately, they didn't have Vol. 6, which is the only one I'm missing. - Spidra Webster
Hmmm, there are Costcos around here, but I'm not a member. I'll ask my friends who are to keep a look out. Thanks for the tip. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Happy to enable a WB cartoon fan. - Spidra Webster
Wow, I did a crappy job of shaving this morning. #tmi
Me, too. - Steven Perez
Pictures or it didn't happen ;-P - Jeff P. Henderson
It's fixed NOW. :p - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
@coldacid They improve gameplay, yeah. World Tour (GH4) added full band support. GH5 has new multiplayer modes. I prefer Rock Band, myself.
@coldacid LOL, yeah, and that's not including the band-specific titles. And the Smash Hits collection of previously-released songs.
Sharin Foo noise-rocking up my new iPhone lock screen. I keep turning my phone on just to look at it.

Of course, since I jailbroke again, she's on all the other screens, too, but the icons are all in the way. :) - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF from email

@scarletscribe Kill Bill Vol 1 for me, no question. Vol 2 is really good, but it drags a little here and there.
I can't separate them. Without vol 2 there would be no story. I saw them in one sitting and prefer to think of them as one movie. Perhaps most awesome ever. - Mark Horne
Vol 1 had as much style as any film ever crafted, Vol 2, not so much - RAPatton from iPhone

Just changed my iPhone wallpaper from Metric (been that since June) to Raveonettes. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?? http://twitpic.com/qj77u
gone but not forgotten... - Michael W. May
No, not at all! Metric's album is still higher on my in-progress year end list. It's just not as current in my head. But I think I'm gonna have to make a top ten list instead of a top five. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF from iPhone
Well, that was a singularly unfun run of Borderlands. Apparently I am not skilled/leveled enough to take on that mission yet. (Repeatedly dying and respawning next to a bunch of bad guys who also keep respawning while my ammo just goes down and down with no place to replenish? UNCOOL.)
what a gyp! - Jon, the Beartato of FF
Finally at least got out of the area by just hunkering down and running back toward the entrance before they shot me up completely. Not pretty. Did finish one side mission, though, so at least there's that. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I suggest more rum and coke *sagenod* - Michael W. May
Yeah.......I really don't think a rum & coke deficit was quite the problem there. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
*chuckle* A tiny part of me wants to get an xbox only so I could game with you, even though I don't have much of a gaming bug these days - Michael W. May
You should do it! But I'm clearly biased. Also, I tell everyone to get an Xbox, whether they'd really make use of it or not. :) - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I've got to a place where I keep dying but it's only been a few times so will keep trying. Liking the game though, those dog-type creatures are a little annoying though. - Kol Tregaskes
Kol and Jandy, just look at the bottom of the mission details, it will clearly tell you if you are capable of doing it based on your level and skill. Most of the time, all you have to do is hit up the bulletin board for side missions to build up power. Frankly, i am getting bored of this, there is too much back tracking taking place. - Carlos Ayala
Carlos, do you mean where it says if the mission is "normal," "tough," or "hard"? I noticed that one was marked hard, then I leveled up and it was marked tough. The one I'm failing on is marked tough - I think I'd be able to do that, though, if I didn't keep running out of ammo and then get stuck in that respawn loop. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Carlos, good point. Perhaps I'll go back and do a few more missions. I think the one I've taken on it 'hard'. - Kol Tregaskes
Jandy, you sound like you're at the same point I am. - Kol Tregaskes
Kol, that mission was the one to go into Sledge's safehouse and get the mine key. There's a respawn point several rooms into the safehouse, and if you die and respawn there, all the enemies you already killed are back. I wish games wouldn't do that. Either let you go back to an earlier save point (somewhere safe) or have the enemies remain dead. First thing I don't like about the game. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Yes Jandy, along with the mission description is the level you should be at to do it. For the most part, the missions you are attempting should be at your level and be labeled "Normal". At that point you have the skills to complete it. Also, make sure your level ups are balanced and so are your weapons. I just completed a level that was all vehicles, it came up as "Normal", I was stuck... more... - Carlos Ayala

Just re-jailbroke my phone. (And by "just" I mean I've been working on it all day.) OMG I missed some of these things. Especially SBSettings - which seems like such a little thing, but one-touch access to all the settings? SO MUCH EASIER.

Just dreamed @misstripentaxi was visiting for a year, and I got a parking ticket. Glad the ticket was a dream, not glad the Kat part was.
