Cleaning out my palate after [Rec] with a little Looney Tunes. How much do I love Chuck Jones? THIS MUCH <------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> More than that, really, but I'm not working with infinite space here.
Incidentally, Amazon.com is having a Black Friday event all week (which kind of goes against the name, but whatevs), and from 4-8pm TOMORROW, the first Looney Tunes Golden Collection is on sale for $14.99. That's an incredible bargain, for four discs of the best cartoons every made. http://www.amazon.com/gp.... Too bad it's the only one of the Golden Collection sets I already own. :/

I don't care what anybody says - the moment in "Feed the Kitty" when Marc Anthony takes the kitten-shaped cookie and puts it on his back, bawling because he thinks his kitten is dead, is one of the most moving moments in all of cinema.

Chuck Jones is my favorite WB director as well. Even though WB cancelled the Golden Collection series, it is well worth buying up the 6 volumes that they managed to do before the cancellation.

Spidra, I knew they'd gotten up to 5 volumes, but wasn't aware of the sixth. Thanks! How many more were they slated to do? They had already crammed most of my favorites into the first three volumes or so, I think. And Jones is amazing. His toons manage to both have the funniest sight gags and the most heart at the same time. I also like a lot of Freleng and Clampett's work, and I really like Tex Avery, though most of his best stuff was done at MGM.

WoH, I've seen that short probably twenty times, and I always cry at that part. ALWAYS.

They didn't have it all plotted out but they were doing such a good job on the Golden Collection (as well as programming them gradually so that they were a mix of hits with lesser-known fare) that I think people thought they'd just continue until they finished. But apparently they didn't sell as well as Warner Home was hoping. Supposedly they'll still digitally restore more films and issue them in collections but it might be a lot more haphazard from now on.

Vol. 6 might disappoint you if you're hoping for classic LT. It's good stuff, but it's really early stuff for the most part. Still, there are some really entertaining things in that collection. It's the only volume I don't own yet and that's because I had lost my source of income by the time it came out. Actually, looking at the list you still have Herr Meets Herr, Russian Rhapsody and others that are really classic. http://www.amazon.com/Looney-...

I like everything, and one thing I liked was that it seemed by vol 4 and 5 or so they were delving into a good bit of really lesser known and rare stuff, and I love that. I'd definitely like to have them someday. But as far as what I go back to and watch over and over, it's generally the more familiar ones, so I want them FIRST.

Ooh, that vol. 6 one has some Bosko shorts on it. I've heard of Bosko, but I don't think I've ever seen any shorts that feature him. Now you have me lusting after these things, Spidra. :p

I'm having trouble finding the post right now, but someone posted a list of WB shorts that were issued as cartoon appetizers on DVD issues of classic WB movies. I think there are some on that list that have not been reissued in any other way yet. There are at least a couple hardcore WB animation fan forums on the 'net and those guys know why more than I do about what was issued and what is rumored to be coming.

Just looked at the contents of all the collections - yeah, I'm gonna need all of those. Dear Amazon, please to be having all of the other collections on sale for $14.99. KTHXBAI.

If you have a Costco by you, check them out. At this time of year, it's likely they'll have them for $20 apiece. My mom actually called me from Costco to ask if I wanted any. Unfortunately, they didn't have Vol. 6, which is the only one I'm missing.

Hmmm, there are Costcos around here, but I'm not a member. I'll ask my friends who are to keep a look out. Thanks for the tip.
