“Are there any new tv shows this season worth watching? Anything you've fallen in love with?”
Monday at 6:03 pm - Link
nope nothing for me - Ruth Ferguson
I like The Mentalist so far. That's about it. (Fringe was too gross.) Glad to see Pushing Daisies and Dexter back though. Oh and True Blood isn't bad. - Abby Martin
Nothing new for me. I am very reluctant to watch new shows because I am tired of getting into a new show that they promptly cancel. - Michelle Martinez
Michelle- that's how I felt about Moonlight last season. And Drive. And the list goes on.... - Abby Martin
The Mentalist. And from last season: Life & Pushing Daisies. - Akiva Moskovitz
I'm giving sanctuary and Life on Mars a shot. Mostly, I'm happy to get Life and Chuck and Dirty Sexy Money back - rudibrarian
DSM is a great show but it seems to me that the tone has changed from subtle to IN YOUR FACE. Lucy Liu as harbinger of doom? (But I love Brian Darling "I fired some people. That was fun.") - Abby Martin
Amazing Race and Survivor - Stagekid
Nope. I even gave up on Heroes. Sticking with House, Stargate Atlantis, and Criminal Minds. Waiting for Eli Stone to start... this week! - 9 (werewolf expert)
Criminal Minds is good- but don't you miss Gideon? (I do. Rossi doesn't do much for me.) - Abby Martin
Kath and Kim's series premiere had me cracking up. You might wanna check it out. I haven't actually noticed any new shows premiere other than that one. Am I out of the loop? I watch Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, House (though, I'm nearing my breaking point as I have with HEROES), Kath and Kim, The Office. - Mattie Kenny
I like The Sons of Anarchy. Ron Perlman and Kate Sagal FTW. - Andrew Burd
Abby: not so much. The ensemble is so strong that it doesn't matter. I'd probably stop watching if Reid or Garcia ever left, though. I'm not that deep. - 9 (werewolf expert)
I'm still trying to hang with True Blood, and it *has* gotten marginally better. But then I haven't watched this week's episode. Haven't had the motivation to check out anything else but Fringe, which was "meh." I'm still bitter about Journeyman being canceled. :/ - Heather Cee
Nine - agreed. Wouldn't work without Reid. Heather Cee- I didn't like TB much at first either because I love the books but it is getting stronger and stronger. (And the music is really good.) Journeyman was good then? (sorry never saw it. But sorry you lost something you enjoyed.) - Abby Martin
I started watching Kate & Kim and the pilot was pretty funny... - Live4Soccer
I watch Prison Break, Heroes, CSI Miami, and Knight Rider :D - AJ Batac ♘
I'm enjoying Fringe so far ;) - zoblue (Zulema ❤'s you) via fftogo
Fringe intrigues but the pilot was so freaking gross. Is Knight Rider any good w/out the Hoff? - Abby Martin
@Abby Agreed about TB's music. Best part of the show, IMHO. As for Journeyman - oh, YES. Please do give it a shot when it hits DVD. The first few eps were a little shaky but it found its footing fast and became TV crack. Funnily enough, I used to recap Journeyman and Moonlight for a website. Now I don't recap anything at all. :( So if anyone wants some shows canceled... - Heather Cee
It wasn't your fault Heather. Honest. The networks don't give anything time to grow. Nor do they listen to the viewers, given the stories I read about picketing and protests by rabid Moonlight fans. - Abby Martin
Check out Gary Unmarried. No - really, it's funny. Not subtle funny, just middle of the road situation comedy funny. - AJ Kohn
Jay Mohr is funny- might be worth a look..... - Abby Martin
Is there a room for discussing tv shows in general? (Or just separate rooms for certain shows?) - Abby Martin
From last year, but, Mad Men, love it. - Nadine Schaeffer
Oooh. Mad Men. Awesome. How could I have forgotten that? Good call Nadine! - Abby Martin
Little Britain USA - John Cozen
Despite my better judgment, I got hooked on TB.. eugh - embee

“QUESTION: Best and worst live shows you have ever seen.”
Monday at 5:17 pm - Link
I'll name two that I saw in my college years (1979-83). Slim Whitman was the best; he made an effort to put on a good show, introduced some humor via his reactions to his son Byron (the sex symbol, relatively speaking), and stayed afterward, signing as many autographs as possible. The worst? Jan & Dean. It seemed like Jan was being exploited, but the saddest part was how they padded out their show with Beach Boys songs. - Ontario Emperor
Honorable mention - Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson (also in college). Heck, Willie made Kris look like a slick city boy. - Ontario Emperor
Best - http://is.gd/40MH Worst - Blue @ Wembley Arena - Andy C
Honourable mention - R.E.M London August 2008. Yet to stand the 10 year test of time though. - Andy C
Adam and Eve appeared at the Hazel Grove Youth Club? I hope they were wearing the fig leaves. :) - Ontario Emperor
Depeche Mode in 2005 and Josh Groban in 2007 were good shows. Worst live show? The Penny Arcade Expo concerts this year were pretty bad...at least accoustically. I couldn't hear a damn thing the people on stage were singing and some of the acts were pretty bad. The band that played over an 8 bit arcadish sound track was pretty lame. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Worst show had to be Janet Jackson on her Velvet Rope tour. I will never pay to see someone lip sync again. Best show would be a tie between The Roots, Mos Def and Prince. - Monique via fftogo
just realized how old I am... all of my bests are more than 10 years old :( - Brian roy
Brian: You are not old. You are discerning. Any show has to stand the 10 year test of time before being a candidate :-) - Andy C
Best: Black Sabbath Reunion Tour....Worst: Alice DeeJay - Matt Musgrave
Paul McCartney Air Canada Center 2002 was the best show I've seen. The worst was Blues Traveler (can't remember the year, I think it was 1992/1993?). My friend and I walked out of the show. The band just was out of tune and just was bad. - Molly, the Vampy Plumber
Best: Bush, Live, and Rolling Stones in 95 (I think). Worst: Summer Sanitarium with Korn, Metallica, and Kid Rock. - Michelle Martinez
Best? I have to say Idlewild. Mostly because I love them the most. Although Placebo, Travis, and The Cure have been monumental. Mogwai was also killer. Worst would have to be Good Charlotte. It was a festival. They were one of something like 23 bands. Foo Fighters were also not good that day. - 9 (werewolf expert)
Best? Tie between Rage Against the Machine and Depeche Mode. Worst? Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2001...saw them again later, and they were better, but this show was BAD - Anna Haro
I've seen an awful lot of live music. This question is hard. I don't think I could do worst. It was probably some local act that I got roped into seeing. Best? Nearly impossible I think, too. So many shows have been spectacular for different reasons. Maybe Bjork last year. Maybe that one Zero 7 show. Maybe that De La Soul show with the ATCQ reunion. Maybe Prince from the nosebleeds. Maybe Madonna a week after 9/11. Maybe M.I.A. at Spaceland. Maybe Arcade Fire at Coachella. Maybe maybe maybe... - Jason Toney
One of the best: Sleater-Kinney at Lounge Ax in Chicago...oh some time in early 2000s. I ferget. They awed me. Worst? Information Society at The Vogue in Indianapolis. I was on assignment. - Rick Powell
Yes. S-K shows are, by definition, one of the best. - Jason Toney
Hatedhatedhated Lennon opening for the Cult on their '01 tour. But if I had to measure worst show by bad + biggest disappointment = The Cure at Coachella 2004. I waited hours for THAT? - Heather Cee
Best: Faith No More in Wolverhampton 1997. Can't really think of a worst ... - Timothy Griffin
Worst first: almost turned me off from getting back into concerts...Dizzee Rascal at 1015 Folsom earlier this year...best was 1994 (HOLY CRAP NINETY FOUR!) Blur/Pulp @ The Fillmore SF. - Pete Delucchi
Best was *probably* Chicago, around 1986, at Six Flags in Atlanta. Worst was New Order, in Atlanta, 1987. They had horrible technical problems during the first song. Bernard got pissed, threw his guitar in the air and walked off. End of show. - Joey Gibson
Best: Bela Fleck in the early 80s (mind-blowing chops) - Worst: Rolling Stones in the late 70s (too stoned to be operating musical devices) - Kevin Johnson
I once saw Carmel supporting The Smiths at Leicester Poly. I already had 'The Drum Is Everything' LP (professional Mancunian). Her rendition of 'Bad Day' was absolutely superb. It was the first time I had actually ever _listened_ to someone singing - http://is.gd/41aw - Andy C
Joey, that New Order concert sounds like a good show just for the event of it, hehe. - Alex Scoble CISSP
best EVER live show is TJ and Dave out of the Chicago Improv Olympic. every wednesday. 11pm. two-man improv. it's brilliant. http://www.tjanddave.com/ - Baratunde Thurston
I heard a live tape of New Order once. The singing was so off key that it made Johnny Cash sound like he had perfect pitch. - Ontario Emperor
Best = Every My Morning Jacket show I've ever been to. Smashing Pumpkins put on a hell of a show too. Worst = N.E.R.D. They never showed up. - IAmGHOSTBLOGGER.com-BradW
Did you get a refund on N.E.R.D.? - Ontario Emperor via fftogo

My friend was raving about an Oakland No Wave band called Black Ice and especially their singer. Toss Siouxsie, Eve Libertine, and Poly Styrene into the same black silk dress and you’d have Miss Kel, a punk diva with a banshee in her soul. Multiple listens in and I’m still blown away by how old school ’70s/’80s post-punk this sounds. I’m thisclose to breaking out the Christian Death and Sex Gang Children for some Sprockets-inspired dancing. - Heather Cee

McCain spokesperson Nicolle Wallace in response to Obama’s remarks on the “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!” outbursts at McCain rallies. You can read the rest (including exactly what Obama said) at MSNBC. I don’t care if you’re Democrat, Republican, Independent, and I don’t care who you’re voting for. No matters what, THIS IS WRONG. I’m honestly flabbergasted right now. Hatred is not merely "anger." I'm waiting for McCain to acknowledge that this is happening and to denounce it. Instead their supporters are misunderstood? PLEASE. (Edited for clarification.) - Heather Cee
According to the linked MSNBC page he said ' "It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States." ' Perhaps I'm not seeing the part that is generating the concern, because the statement above doesn't seem like an assault. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
People will hear what they want to hear. They will ignore details and say what they want without proof and they are not willing to see any other side. When someone is being purposely ignorant to things its best to move on and leave them be or they will suck you into their tar pit. - Christopher Welle
"It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division". Well, he's right about that. After all, I'm guessing McCain couldn't excite a crowd by associating Obama with an education professor at the University of Chicago. - Mavericky Awesomesauces
Christopher, is that the statement Obama made, or is that your own comment on the situation? Either way, it's true and many on FF have said as much during a variety of the political discussions. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
@Tina EXACTLY. He said nothing insulting at all. I'm stunned that the McCain campaign is calling outright HATRED merely "anger." - Heather Cee
Tina, Its my own personal view.I think Obama needs to ignore the negatives being said. Focus on the issues with the American people and talk directly to us. When McCain wants to talk issues and moving forward then engage discussions again. - Christopher Welle
Details in how to improve peoples lives will be what wins this election. - Christopher Welle
@Christopher I agree. What I don't understand is why McCain - who, at one point, seemed to have at least SOME integrity - would allow this to run rampant when it reflects on EVERYONE who attends his rallies? If you don't denounce the few hatemongers, you appear to be condoning it. Don't insult your *entire* base. We live in the age of 24-hour media, fer chrissakes, and those clips have been on a loop for the past three days. - Heather Cee
This is disgusting and really and truly is working up into fascist nationalism. "How dare you speak poorly of those who fling hatred in the name of American pride!" Crawl back under that rock. And soon. - AJ Kohn
And politics isn't just about the issues but about how people feel about the candidates. If Obama didn't address this and use it to his advantage he wouldn't be a good politician. - Alex Scoble CISSP

I knew this would happen last week when they kept Kenley even after she was such a bitch. But her dresses WERE better than Korto's and Jerrell's. I think they kept Korto because they liked her previous stuff more than Jerrell. - Trish R
Plus, this way I got two out of three of my first-episode finalist predictions right :) I had Kenley, Korto, and Suede... not too bad, though last season I got all three right! - Shannon Jiménez
Also, I agree with you, Trish. I think they kept Korto on the based on the strength of her previous designs. - Shannon Jiménez
Korto's dress was shockingly bad. I couldn't wrap my head around what was going on up top - no shape, at all. That said, everything but the middle of Jerrell's dress was a mess. While I agree that Korto's past work influenced their decision, you also saw nothing new or different from Jerrell on the runway. It was another sparkly, overworked outfit. If I was a judge, I wouldn't be compelled to see any more either. I think there's more of a surprise factor with Korto. - Heather Cee

Unfo, I have to tweak all of the settings for my external monitor every.single.time. I plug it into my laptop. AND I have to reset them if my screensaver comes up. Also, it won't mirror! WTF? (Okay, sorry for the rant but I'm hoping someone out there will take pity and give me a miracle solution.) - Heather Cee
1UP xero. Vista with SP1 is what Vista should have been to begin with. It's fantastic. Just install a proper firewall (such as ESET Smart Security) and disable UAC immediately for premium computing experience! - Akiva Moskovitz
@Heather: That's not Vista, that's your video drivers. I've had absolutely no problems with multiple monitors. - xero
Heather Cee - I've had some troubles with my Vaio too. There's a couple of different settings you can fiddle with to get your external display working. Mine's pretty reliable these days. Try this: Press Windows+X, then on the Mobility Center dialog play around with either the 'External Display' or the 'Presentation Settings' options. I've found it's important to disconnect the monitor before shutting down or hibernating -- that is if you're planning to take the computer elsewhere. - Richard (Change) Crocker
@xero Well, that's what I thought as well, but when I researched the problem apparently it's a common issue Vista users have? Could it be Vista clashing with this particular monitor? @Richard Thanks! I'm going to give this a go when I get to work tomorrow. And I always disconnect the monitor before hibernating so it's good to know I'm doing something right. ;) - Heather Cee
There is probably a driver out there that will fix your problem, either for the video hardware or for the monitor itself. My main pain from Vista (outside of UAC's usability issues) has been Sleep/Hibernate modes. Certain apps cause an attempt to sleep or hibernate to cause a reboot that disables the main case fan. There's something in Firefox that almost always does it. Sleep is almost useless to my laptop. - xero
I haven't had anything that drastic, but Hibernate occasionally locks and I have to force a hard reboot. Hasn't happened often enough for me to worry but I am curious what causes it. - Heather Cee
