There were some bugs in the "Twitter publishing" code that caused some entries to get published on Twitter when they should not, and others to not get published when they should. I've cleaned up the code to eliminate these problems, but it's possible some settings were lost. Please verify your settings at http://friendfeed.com/setting...
Cheers for this Paul. How cool is it that one of the founders of FF still gets his hands dirty in the code. Once a coder, always a coder :-)
- Keith Bennett
from Nambu
Thanks Keith :) By the way, if none of your posts are making it through to twitter, it may be that you changed your password. To verify, simply click "Save changes" at http://friendfeed.com/setting... and we will check that your Twitter credentials are still good (and sign-out then back in to fix).
- Paul Buchheit
Matthew, in general all the same settings that the old ui had are available on the new one (plus a few more), though they are now divided on to several different pages. You should be able to reach all of the the settings by clicking on the word "settings" below your name in the top-right part of the page (the dialog shows a few, and links to all the others).
- Paul Buchheit
You can filter by service by searching for service:twitter (or whatever service you like), and of course that can be combined with other search operators as well. See http://friendfeed.com/search... for more.
- Paul Buchheit
Thanks Paul, sounds like you pulled an all nighter to fix these.
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, unfortunately the code had gotten rather involved since it was trying to support both the old ui and the new (the old ui worked on a per-service basis instead of letting you decide individually on each entry), and the logic sometimes became inconsistent. I simplified it quite a bit, so there should be less room for bugs now :)
- Paul Buchheit
Nice try, Matthew, I congratulate you on being awake, and carpe-diem'ing Paul here, but have to disappoint you - if FF wanted us to have favicons, they'd already issued us our favicons. Do you see any favicons that made the transition from earlier version. No? You think Paul nuked them by mistake... be my guest, and I'll be looking forward to the next couple of years' worth of your pleading for favicons when you could be learning to live both here and thereater without them.
- ianf ⌘
I'm a bit confused about the "Post my FriendFeed entries on Twitter by default" and "FriendFeed (when there's no Cc box)" options. Are these exclusive? Does checking the first one mean all my FriendFeed posts will get posted to Twitter even if I uncheck the Cc box?
- Tony Ruscoe
Paul, thank you thank thank you for the "Check CC Twitter box by default" option!!! That's one step closer to only needing Friendfeed. I'm almost ready to dump Google Reader AND Twitter now!
- caj needs a haircut
Tony, the "cc twitter by default" option sets whether then checkbox is checked or unchecked by default in the share box and bookmarklet. The other option ("when there's no cc box") applies mostly to the API and other off-site interfaces, such as email (mail share@friendfeed.com) and IM. For any given post, only one setting applies.
- Paul Buchheit
I publish to Twitter by default but now link directly to the source. I figure that those finding outside of FF want to go to the source (while those reading on FF are already seeing the discussion).
- Mike Reynolds
Hi Paul, about 15 mins ago I "shared" an item from FF here to "my feed" and "cc Twitter". But still not showing up on Twitter. Just thought I'd let you know.
- Brian
Thanks Brian. It turns out there was a bug in the "Share" feature that sometimes caused us to sometimes not send the tweets (the new code errors on the side of not sending tweets). It's fixed now though. Please let me know if you spot any others.
- Paul Buchheit
Paul, that did the trick! Thanks for looking into that. BTW, that was a quick fix! Just shared an item on FF and it pushed thru to Twitter instantly.
- Brian
Hello Paul, when I try to publish just my google talk status to twitter and have "Link to source site instead of FriendFeed conversation" selected, it doesn't send the tweet. I'm not sure if this is because twitter seems to be having difficulty right now or if it's the lack of a source link because it's a google talk status?
- ehaab
ehaab, publishing to Twitter was broken this morning, so no updates went out. It should work fine now however, including publishing updates from Google Talk. Sorry about that.
- Paul Buchheit
thanks! it was driving me batty trying to figure out why it wasn't taking.
- ehaab
I think it's still broken. I just posted via the Bookmarklet and CC'd twitter... no go. EDIT: my latest one just posted, must be intermittent.
- Daniel Sims
Hi Paul, Mine is still not working. I have also checked the setting page.
- zahedzadeh

We had some networking issues that were causing packet loss over the past couple days that (we think) have been resolved. If you noticed the site being a bit sluggish, it should be improved now.
"As a devoted FriendFeed user, I have tried to convince all of my friends and family to join the site, but a handful of them never quite got their accounts set up properly. With our new Recommend friends feature, I can fix their FriendFeed experience by recommending subscriptions to them." Try it out at http://friendfeed.com/friends...
- Bret Taylor
from Bookmarklet
What am I supposed to get when I click the 'recommend friends' link on someone's pop-up? Currently, the popup just goes away and I don't get directed anywhere else.
- FFing Enigma
Fred: yah, unfortunately, you can only recommend people who you are subscribed you and who are also subscribed back to you.
- Bret Taylor
Mark, I didn't submit a bug report since what is supposed to happen wasn't actually spelled out on the blog post or here; this might be the intended functionality... I hope not, but it's possible.
- FFing Enigma
Tina: it is supposed to pop up a dialog. Sorry for the trouble - we will look into it.
- Bret Taylor
At first I did not understand this, but now that I am checking it out, it is brilliant and addresses much of what we have complained about. NOW what will we complain about?
- Liza + = ?
Just to confirm Bret, the first image in the blog post is what the pop up is supposed to look like, right? Because that's nothing like what the ff.com/recommend page looks like....
- FFing Enigma
I notice that new subscriptions are automatically added to one's home feed. I consider that kind of a bug.
- Meryn Stol
Tina: yes, that is correct. The http://friendfeed.com/friends... page is just a list of people that we think could use some friend recommendations since they have few subscriptions. If you click on any of the "Recommend" links on that page, you will see the same, standard "Recommend friends" dialog.
- Bret Taylor
Where would we find recommendations that others suggest to us?
- Fred Yankowski
@Bret, who receive the recommandation see also who is the recommender?
- Roberto
Fred: You will receive an email as well as a notification on the top of your feed.
- Ross Miller
Roberto: yes, they see who recommended
- Bret Taylor
Not getting the pop-over when I click 'recommend' on the friendfeed.com/friends/recommend page either... FFox 3.0.12 if it's relevant.
- FFing Enigma
Bret, if I recommend friends to people who haven't signed in for a long time, will they get email? A lot of my bored friends are not active FF users I think. (quite logical)
- Meryn Stol
and can I see who has accepted my recommendation?
- Roberto
Roberto: You won't be notified if they accept/deny as the recommender.
- Ross Miller
Ross: Ah, it just appeared on my feed. Cool. (And thanks Meryn)
- Fred Yankowski
Meryn: yes, they will get an email with your recommendations
- Bret Taylor
from email
Bret, I accidently just received an email with previous recommendations. I had already viewed them through the web-interface. But indeed, it's there. Email looks good too, as I expected of course. :)
- Meryn Stol
hey Robert Scoble....I have a trade proposal....you send my name to all your friends...i send your name to all of my friends for the rest of my life....
- Bob DeMarco
I would like that deal, too, Scoble. I like this a lot.
- Ben Hanten
Bob: I charge $1 per friend. :-) just kidding, but the UI makes it so hard to send you to more than a few people.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Bret: You guys rock! This is so much better than FollowFriday, which I recommended just a while back. Now, I'm waiting for some recommendation emails! :)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
If there’s something about friends and family not having their account set up properly, I’d prefer a way to recommend them the streams they forgot to add. For example, I could tell them “You forgot to add your Digg stream and your fourth and eight blog. Here’s the link.” Then he could just click the recommendation and had it set up easily.
- Natsuki Seika
As I have lots of subscriptions the pop-up window is *really* slow and always has been since the new UI (same thing for amending friends lists). :-( I like the feature though, so I could make a new friends list of my most recommended users and use that each time for each user?
- Kol Tregaskes

So it's since Tuesday huh? The ultimate thread. How will the thread die then? We must have a limit for that, let's say 24h without one comment.

As a side note, I do have to applaud the endurance and pettiness of those of us on FriendFeed. No one on Facebook gave this status update a second look!
- Mike Nayyar
We pride ourselves in our pettiness and obsessiveness. Um, wait.

Remember. It's not whole Scoble likes. It's who likes Scoble.

According to FriendFeed, that's everyone. And some Twitter marketers and SEO experts.

Mike will get in the last word. Eventually. Everyone else is an idiot for playing his little game. Me included. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I'm not actually playing. Or, if I am, I'm playing to lose.

HAHA! You see that? Robert Scoble acknowledges I will eventually win! HAHA! FINALLY! For once in my life, I win! :) :) :) :) Unless Logical shows up...

Only mostly dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

We're testing the limit on the number of comments.
- DGentry
Nah, the FFundercats live chat pushed that one way over the top. We are, however, testing the limits oh how sick people are getting of setting my face.
- Mike Nayyar
This thread has a lot of comments, that must mean Mike is an expert of some kind...or maybe an A-Lister. Must stalk^H^H^H^H^Hinvestigate him...
- Rah-PM 2012
Olympus too? Good thing Logical doesn't know any Japanese mythological figures.
- Mike Nayyar
All right, if you're going to play that way, Raijin AND Ajisukitakahikone are BOTH mad at you. And Raijin was especially unhappy because you interrupted his NOMmage of children's bellybuttons.

Dude, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Raijin put down the platter.

We'd be content, of course, if you (Mike) issued a public retraction of the assertion in your post, followed by allowing someone else to post the last comment in the thread ;-)

Nicholas, as long as it's not Mike, it's irrelevant.

I'm sad that Logical saw this Facebook status.

You know at some point, expanding this comment will really put a strain on mortal browsers. It already has a 3 second pause to expand it.
- Mark Philpot
I wonder if at some point we will hit a soft limit and FF won't let it keep going. That or they look at this as a great high-bounds test case for the system.
- Sparky, lurking
Great experiment there, I'm somewhat scared opening the thread here. Funny thing, Even the explosion of words spawned through this, making it a wordle madness. http://www.wordle.net/gallery...

- John D Reasor
cant the person that started this block the comments now? and thereby win.
- Morgan
If you can get buddy buddy with mike and figure out his schedule, you can prevent him from stopping the comments because you'll always be able to get the last word in. We must prevail for great justice!
- Jonathan Hardesty
That would be cheating, and he knows it :)

That's how the FriendFeed Mob rolls. :-D

you didn't disable the comments yet? you could comment and then do it and then you really would get the last word. but then again, that's cheating. and cheaters never prosper.

You're not supposed to make sense of it. It exits only as an opaque, monolithic data structure that is constantly being updated and evolving. ;)

Attempting to parse it in a manner that is not approved by FriendFeed, Inc may result in disruption of the space-time continuum, and a series of Bad Things(R) occurring.

I made a small journey through FF-sphere. Just to see what other people did theme-wise. Whether they had wanted to be original or liked it more the way it was. So I jumped from 1 account to another by going to the 1st person that had liked or commented on an entry. Does it say anything? Do you have a theme that's especially YOU?
No, I probably made a mistake here. FFundercats is not an open account. It should be another one with green toy thingies.

I like Angelica's, Canada's, Holden's, and Mike Nencetti's themes out of that group, with perhaps Mike Nencetti's at the top of the list. None of the themes I've seen so far really stand out to me, though.
- John (bird whisperer)
I hate custom themes. Seriously i do. It's *never* better than the original design.
- Nik
Luckily Nik, FF allows you to turn them off so you never have to see any custom themes.
- FFing Enigma
I love them, Nik, because that's the way you can add a personal touch to the design that's all ready-made. They don't have to be beautiful to me, as long as they say something about the person who is using it.
- Ton Zijp
Mike, I'm in wilmington, topsail is cool and all, but the beaches are almost floridian when you get down to the lower half of cape fear... It looks like people are solving it, so hopefully I'm not spoiling it: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Tab, Return. It's a variation of the Konami code (which nets you 30 lives in Contra) adapted for the keyboard. Figured out the first part from Paul's clue, but it took going through the minified Javascript to figure out a) that they didn't use the original Konami code like Google does and b) what they used for keyboard equivalents for "select" and "start."
- Mark Trapp
AWESOME! but didn't the code net you 99 lives?
- Keith - @tsudo

I know I'll cop shit for this (and there is certainly plenty of 'taking this piss' punnage available) but I think R. Kelly's Trapped In The Closet series is a masterpiece. Suspense, intrigue, twists and turns. I am not ashamed to say it :)
I will admit, me and my whole family accidentally started watching it and ended up watching the whole damn thing like somebody had a gun to our head. Either it's art or it's like a grizzly car accident.

How is your pumpkin doing? Mine is super slow and I think it's pretty much stopped growing, but that is okay because I actually got a pumpkin. Yours has to be huge by now?

Hmm. It has definitely slowed down. Will bring a camera and tape measure out later today and post an update!

Is the contest with JPG Magazine? Is there someplace we should be voting?
- Anne Bouey
No, I'm still waiting to hear on JPG, they take a while apparently. This is a National Geographic/PDN magazines contest. I think there will be voting for the people's choice part, but then there is a juried part too. I have to get all of mine up and then I will post here for voting. I keep getting distracted this week or their site goes down and I still have 3 more photos to put up. More to come!! Thanks Anne!!!!! :)

SO FREAKIN AMAZING! Taking a cruise through the antarctic is one of my dream vacations. I have some NatGeo travel magazines that I flip through occasionally and sigh a little sigh. I don't know if I can justify the $10k cost though.
- veo
We're going through your old Antarctica photos. My kids are astounded that you jumped in with your swimsuit. They want to know how cold it was.
- Anika
Anika, I have never ever felt something as cold as that water. It was 27degress F which is subfreezing water. It was exhilarating and very scary. I'm very glad I did it, I will NEVER do it again! There was a moment coming up the ladder where my one leg stopped working. I mean I literally had no control or ability to move that leg. It only happened for a split second and then it started...
- Rachel Lea Fox
I don't even know if I could even explain to them 27F. I've tried, but they've never really experienced something so cold. If they have more questions, I'll let you know.
- Anika
Anika, Kevin says that it is colder than an ice cube which freezes at 32F. Not sure if that helps explain it or not. And AJ, you should, the whole trip was amazing, but this jump really was incredible. Anyone of good health should try it once. I do think one of the reasons I had the problem with my leg is that I already have a compromised neurological system. But even so, it was only an instant and I'm really glad I did it.
- Rachel Lea Fox
*shivers* 32F is 0C. I think I can do it. I read that it will shock your system and start to shut it down.
- AJ Batac :)
In 5 minutes you'll succumb to hypothermia.
- AJ Batac :)
Yup, the time period to get us out of the water if something went wrong was about 2 minutes because the shot would make our systems shut down and we wouldn't be able to help ourselves. My leg freezing up for a second was just one sign what would have been in store for me if I were in there much longer.
- Rachel Lea Fox
This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.
- Soup in a TARDIS
Too Funny! Reminds me of the San Mateo Cat Shelter where one of the cats loves to sleep on top of the laster printer where the paper comes out...
- Greg Lato
1600+ to beat the FFundercats live chat thread. I think with this real time now on all threads we're going to see some truly epic comment numbers.
- Simon Wicks
Ivan, no the picture speaks for itself. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- pb:
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- pb:
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Iphigenie
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Hehe, Greg. Blimey! Erm, is that not far from 500 likes now? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Bloody marvelous, Kol. Wish I could like it again... too cute (and help u to 500 likes).
- Roberto Bonini
I couldn't believe it when I logged on from the morning over posting it and saw it was at something 200 likes! You all have a strange fetish with cats and fax machines, hehe. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Am I the only one who saw this and their first thought was - My goodness did someone break that cats neck? It still freaks me out a little
- SteVe C
Steve, it does look a little out of place, but cats are pretty bendy. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
They fax much better if you flatten them first. What?
- The original Kevin
So we can put this post to rest now. :-) 505 likes final count, wow! :-D Good night all!
- Kol Tregaskes
did 3 people really un-like this? now at 506. wtf (edit: uh, oh, yeah, me and 2 + 506 others makes 509. dammit, jim, i'm an artist, not a mathematician)
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
One of the best funny cat pictures I've seen! :-)
- John Collis
Kristian, it appears to be. Hehe, John.

- Maryaminaa
It's really only social convention which regards it as inappropriate, same with Xeroxing it, like one does with their b__tocks. Wait are we still talking about cats cats here or...
- The Real sofarsoShawn
OMGosh 700+ likes now!! LOL. Thank you all 702 of you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Sorunda ff'de hangi tipi karşıladığımı buldum.
- Elke Schmitter

Valla her değişime ayak uydurmak gerek.

So all of you live in separate provinces/states/kingdoms/???, except for you, Rachael, Melly, and Josh. Oh and Georgia and Josiah.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
we ship a lot of comics to your fine country - hopefully the comic book buying public will survive, best of luck and our best wishes.
- Comics Forge
Thanks Johnny. I was wondering about this just yesterday. We went through quite a few typhoons when we lived in Okinawa. Those things are no joke. I'm glad you guys are safe.
- DB Botts - Just DB Botts
Johnny for a moment I was wondering, why did you move to Texas :-) I guess North American bias everything is about us.

Australia: Big enough for EVERYONE to live on the edge :-)

Basically, we mostly live on the right hand edge :)

Where is Crocodile Dundee on this map?
- Mike Nayyar
Thanks Johnny. I've kept a very partial and very distorted version of this map in my head for a couple years now. Your map fills in the gaps and reforms the antipodal boundaries of your Aussie world for my feeble brain. Good job! (p.s. Where is Woop Woop?)
- Mark J Severely Corny
Just to be certain, are we talking a canada-like scale here? Meaning that you and Melly live together, Glenn and Penny are your only neighbours and Mo's place is described as "over yonder" ? teehee
- Slippy
Oh wait, I just remembered...the Mobot don't friendfeed no more. WIPE HIM FROM THE MAP. HE IS DEAD TO ME!!!!!!
- Slippy
Sister in law is ok, seems it didn't hit Makay too hard, they lost power and had a pretty wild storm but they're ok
- Glenn Slaven

Um, not after we saw you in that bra. :D

Tina, you should see me try to turn a suppressed laugh into a fake cough some days just so I don't have to try and explain why I'm cracking up around this place =)
- Micah
See the curly perm kills it. Either you have the authentic Jewfro from the beginning, or you don't. Back when he was rocking the short and conservative cut, he was just nerdy enough to get my baby gaydar rising. Oh, to be six again...
- Derrick
beersage, that seems like an unfriendly comment. is it?
- edythe
Yes we are, @beersage, and you bumped the post so everyone can look at us some more. Thanks. We love the attention. BTW, @beersage, you may not be aware but the reason this is "news" here is because we met through Friend Feed. Those photos are from the first time we met IRL.

These pictures were taken a year ago today. After meeting on ff and chatting for *many* months, we had our first "real" date on May 24, 2009. Happy Anniversary, baby. You've changed my life in the most positive and beautiful ways. Thank You and I love You. and again, many thanks to edythe for putting this pic and post together. :-))
