See http://FourSquare.com site and how it is scrolling. That is what I'd appreciate here on FF. When a lot of messages are queued, they are practically unreadable the way they scroll. / too fast/
How about a microdonation system that would allow us to send tips to those that post things and do stuff that we appreciate? Modeled after the one at DonationCoder.com, it could be as successful as theirs is.
See my comment on what TipJoy had to say about why microdonation systems supplied by third parties doesn't work and what needs to be done for the concept to catch on and be useful. The link in my comment there is probably the most information you will ever see in one place about building a successful microdonation system. http://friendfeed.com/app103...

1. OpenFF company. If you do this right, and OpenFF becomes success, site valued at close to, or several, billions of dollars, would it make sense to create some company, or maybe some cooperative, so that members, or owners can become multimillionaires? ..Wouldn't this also spur involvement, participation, development of this project?
Some sort of people's company :] ... it might also be a nice exercise in creating LLP companies, and/or cooperatives ..also, remark, remember, when coop is created, a domain .coop becomes available :]] .. well how about feeda.coop ? :]
- pb:
As a thought experiment, and just for purposes of discussion assuming the $50M pricetag for FF was correct ($15M cash + $35M Facebook equity), suppose FriendFeed had been formed under this sort of structure. How would you have split up the proceeds of the sale among the FF community?
- Ken Sheppardson
these things better be set up "before" the act ..before valuation. ..so some sort of tools, shares, agreements .. "if you have it, that is what you get." ..buy shares, or pledge help in return .. or .. its just thought, an exercise. :] .... I do not know what agreements FF founders/holders had with FF team and/or others potentially involved .. ==== and that yes, brings the question of venture capital involvement - several million$ of geeks who will believe in this more than others .. :]
- pb:
Let's not sprint before we've managed to crawl...

How about TABs, for pages, at the top of each group? Just as Wordpress has them, and Blogger doesn't. How about, again, stats of page/profile visitors, who is online, at least from subscribers, how many are reading right now? How about posting widgets? How about posting 30k chars, and all of them but top 350 showing, with a -more- link to unwrap
2. For OpenFF to be successful, it better a) implement all features of original FF, b) implement all, or best 90%, or user requests addressed to FF, and c) all my requests to FF, as listed in http://friendfeed.com/FFReque... :] . I'd gladly see them implemented in this project.
and remember, aim at becoming "Mozilla" and "Linux" - of social web 2.0 - open source alternative to commercial behemoths
- pb:
I think I would aim at becoming the next wordpress: a successful combination of free bloghosting + freely available code so you can host your blog yourself
- arjo
very well! ... a Wordpress of blogging , a Mozilla of browsers, a Linux of operating systems, a Twitter - better Twitter, sorry:] - of microblogging, a Gmail of emails ..... this multiplatform multi capabilities - all good enough - is the secret - open secret - for success :]
- pb:
How about Star Annotation - of a post, or comment. Place a star, and text box might /on s doublekey/ appear to annotate. This soft text box will have feature to twitter/ff post/ bl, blogpost, email this annotation, with possibility to attach post/comment being annotated. ... I have suggested this same for Gmail email application portal engine
I hope, in fact, I'm sure, Friendfeed will NEVER shut down. At the max, they will stop developing, supporting it - yeah, like they do it now! :] ..anyway, a New Poll, - NextFeed. When? Let me know, when, Paul, Bret & co. Googleist Genious will feel constrained, unsatisfied, "fed up", so to speak, at FB, and start new NextFeed, the Galactic MegaFeed
because I wanna be there ... to see, how the stock goes up ..and what is it going to be? 3D feeding from the orbit? or Moon? ... Who will be the first member of the original Friendfeed to set foot on Mars? .. I want to know!
- pb:
will the NextFeed have more complete, even smarter, context driven keyboard shortcuts ?
- pb:
Better # functionality - the Friendfeed way :] ..1. for aesthetic reasons, do not color the #term. see ?.. 2. clicking on it might search for a plain "term", right click then on "#term".. or vice versa. //// If you have any feedback on Twitter, please post in a new public group http://friendfeed.com/Twitter...#Twitter#feedback
when similar context functionality double-clicks would, of course, perform Twitter searches .. and, of course, all this would be a hidden functionality .. :]
- pb:
How about at the top of groups, per option, a button to display list of most liked from the group, second click on button would display most commented posts list off the group, third click time ordered posts, and fourth back to normal time-and-last-commented-or-liked post sort order. :]
1. I think the slider or possibility to adjust the speed of scroll would be a great feature, included the "reverse" - time travel would be FF first again on the net :] ... and, please, boost the blogging capabilities /formatting, amount of chars/ ..... is that on the list ? ... thanks.
2. It did occur to me now as absolutely half crazy, to be able to edit posts or comments after some initial period, lets say before first comments, or better, for 1x day/s. This from historic, and general validity/sanity reasons. I think it needs to be addressed. Or are all post half jokes?
1. Shouldn't every user home-feed page have link to "My Groups". Perhaps also show this link on mouseover hint boxes. 2. Can you stop Spellchecker from fouling new words, like "Friendfeed", or other technical expressions, like "mouseover", "homefeed". 3. How about link to all posts from a user, in a given group, under that user thumbnail?
1. Create groups "on the fly". In a "Post to" box dropdown menu , have an option to "Create this group", with default as text currently entered, if it doesn't match any existing group name. 2. Please activate links on Friendfeed anytime text "ff.im/username" or "ff.im/groupname" is entered. And perhaps leave "http://" out.
Tags. Why not to implement them as "sub-groups"? Post to a sub/group, and that will tag the post. Sub because I can have a subgroup "cars", and so does user Kol. Urls might be ff.im/user/subgroup. And please rid us of necessity to enter "http://" everywhere in Friendfeed for a link to become active. Every nerdneck site should have this.
How about a possibility to post items or comments visible to one self only, effectively thus annotating a screen, or a thread ... ? .. well, ok, a more granular privacy ? / visible to self, friends, select group/
Could we share comments as posts? Could we attach pics to comments? Should Friendfeed become it's own browser? For example, drag groups, services, comments into their own tab, split screen x channels vertical? etc. Implement comprehensive smart context driven keyboard shortcuts, Kurze Katze System? Get rid of 140 char limit - header and hidden body
Could something like http://linkwithin.com be implemented on Friendfeed? Could a width of comments be adjustable, and, could comments be housed in a scrolled frame box, per option?
- pb:
Bumping up to head of ALL instances of crossposted post. In my view, this should be eliminated, or per option. Bump up ONLY in the group where the bumping comment occurred. ..... Also, per option, when resharing/forwarding, how about bringing the comments with? .... how about comments becoming practically posts?
With so many rich services possible to aggregate here on Friendfeed, how about a possibility to feed/natively/ them into different, separate groups ... and/or not only into own's feed ... ?
Petr, I'm not quite sure I understand your request. You can currently add any service to a group. Is that not what you are asking for?
- Ross Miller
if im not mistaken - and i don't want to test it - not to flood my feed -.... but if i go from Settings, and add my Services, they all end up in my home feed ../? .... correct? //////// well ... wait. maybe im wrong :] .. let me test something .. thanks ===> ok, you are right ... looks like i had this deeper darn misconception that MY services must end up in MY home feed .... well ... thanks again :]
- pb:
We hear requests for edit/delete/add pictures in existing posts, and where - what groups to be posted .. 1. How about editing post by ATTACHING second, and more, posts to the first one? .. you'd have a train of connected posts ///// 2. How about subscribing and posting to lists? .. 3. Anything with Twitter, please start supporting multiple accounts
Users and groups header descriptions seems are not indexed for search. Is it a problem? What else is not indexed? .. That reminds me, can there be a footer? - this request has been here before, though .. can we have stats? post widgets? have Gmail FriendfeedGadget ala http://www.twittergadget.com/? .. thanks
Friendfeed should enhance blogging capabilities. I think its becoming a serious drawback. For example, allow to post page/s of text, show only text area as currently done, but with a button to expand .. have some rudimentary html formatting. .. and, post to email ....
This has been suggested in the past (I have been one of the supporters and proposers). No response from FF one way or the other but an number of others have expressed that they would definitely *not* like this (this response seems emotional to me - just because a feature exists there is no requirement to use it)
- Brian Sullivan
true ! ... one button, but even that might be visible only per option .. press 1 to show it, press 11 to show it per default, press 11 again to roll back that default change .... that is what i call smart context driven keyboard shortcuts !! ... as you say, user who don't want features, should be able not to even see them .... clean is nice, no question ... we need clean power, though ... ui packed clean of the best aggregate functionality on the web
- pb:
I personally gave up blogging shortly after I started using FF. But I still hanker occasionally for the ability to make posts that a longer, more detailed and with some more ability at greater expression (paragraphs, lists, bolding, emphasizing and maybe inline graphics would be on my list of wishes).
- Brian Sullivan
Brian, have you tried Posterous? I think it's the perfect mid-point between FF and blogging engines with greater overhead. I tag-team FF and Posterous for just this reason, though alas I haven't recently had much time for longer posts.
- Uche Ogbuji
Uche -- no have not used Posterous but if the posts don't appear inline in FF then it wouldn't suit my need I think.
- Brian Sullivan
At a minimum, FF could use a summary block. Yes people can (and do) use their first comment for this, but I'd like one that appears differently in the GUI and can be searched separately. This would *clearly* separate Title, summary and discussion and could even be used to summarize highlights after a long discussions (like those on Building43). I think we have to be careful that we...

I use friendfeed for microblogging instead of Tumblr or Posterous. Works great. I build up the posts with many "comments". That way I can have more text. Comments gets indexed by Google too, not only the entries.
- Svartling
Just not feeling this suggestion. FF is real-time. Putting entire blog posts directly into the feed just seems wrong somehow.
- Rahsheen the Dream
Rahsheen. I agree.. but people will find ways to accomplish what they want (one way or another). Building up entire blog post through a stack of comments is a perfect example.. I would MUCH rather read them on a true blogging platform. BTW comments from Blogger also get indexed as part of the post page!!
- Chris Myles
It is much easier to blog (microblog) on friendfeed than on my blogger blogs.
- Svartling
@Chris .. yes, overtaxing the system would be bad. .. but I think we congregate to ff exactly because it aggregates funcionalities, just let it do it as best as possible ///so lets have it this way - 1 box! and we might go bl:: s:<text> b:<text>t<tag> ,meaning post to Blogger subject <text>, body <text>, tag <tag> ... summary, i don't know how that would fit ...... or just plain enter...
- pb:
@Rahsheen ..well real-time ...so what? ...id actually let scroll the whole pages, not microsnippets ... why not ?? do we have a firepower for that? ... per option, of course ....and with smart keyboard shortcuts
- pb:
@Petr.. I agree we come here because it aggregates functions, and some *basic* HTML functionality would be nice. But today we can't edit an existing post to add images, documents or change which groups an entry should appear in. This fragments discussions into chunks, which can only be found within FF (not embedded easily onto site as comments). Tags aren't imported from existing feeds...

- Chris Myles
@Svartling.. It looks like your blog is FF with a wrapper.. You must hate fragmented discussions, yes? Microblogging and real time isn't for everyone..My Mom and Dad would have a heart attack.. for me a Blog with the embedded FF discussion (for that post) as the comments block is Nirvana!!
- Chris Myles
Another great feature fixed! Rss descriptions imported as comments are no longer confused with user's own . ..also, suggestion, can we do / and tw:<term> or t:<term> and have that twitter real time search ?? ...... also, can we have time "replay the group" functionality? ../r:5h .. /r:10m ...... thanks
if you go to group edit settings, import service, custom rss/atom, then the second checkbox will be "Include entry description as a comment" .. so you end up with nice description comment imported, but, previously that counted as your, /the users/ entered comment, and so was messing up gm - my discussion list, and also statistics ..
- pb:
Petr, yeah I've seen that but I'm wondering how it appears different in FF (from a comment). See http://ff.im/4fxjB for my issues. I really want to be able to determine and search on the RSS Description summary both in the tool and through the API. Can you point me to an example post of yours? Thanks.
- Chris Myles
if i understand well your question - imported descriptions appear the same as comments. but previously were included in gm, and in count of "my comments" ..that's all ..but im repeating myself ... for further info, maybe best contact FF team ...
- pb:
Thanks Petr Where did you find out about the change?
- Chris Myles
using it ...//// or, for further, do you want to videochat? videocollab? to test it, if nothing ..multiple? anybody else wants to? ..via Gmail ..... :]

Royal Friendfeed Team, again, have you seen how http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ does posting comments? ..Check boxes for posting to Blogger,Tumblr, Wordpress, apart from Twitter, Facebook and TypePad. ... How about to have it here? You are the most advanced geek machine, correct?
Peter, we're always working on easy ways to post to friendfeed and share with your friends. Currently if you click the "share this" button on any site we are included in their list of services. Also, you can use the bookmarklet to post from anywhere around the web. We are definitely looking into getting our share button added to many news/media sources though.
- Ross Miller
ok .. and I know how ever more influential Friendfeed is becoming, how you are increasing your reach on and inside the Internet .. but I did was referring also to the ability to post, at the SAME time when posting to FF, also to the other biggest blog engines ..and with this goes the notion of boosting the blogging facilities of FF.. post more chars, better layout - some limited html .....

Feel "tired" of Friendfeed ;?? How about http://www.blerp.com/browser... ? ..that is my ideal of posting commentable /framed/ pages ... or http://FriendBinder.com? ... coincidentally, could Friendfeed implement blerp.com like, some sort of Bookmark Framed Page option, with discussion, social features in the frame ? also as in http://go2.me
Royal Friendfeed Team, how about custom vanity ff shorten urls? .. lets just allow them editable .... that be kooller ! ..... and again, how about ff.im/user ? ....and, yes to support multiple Twitter accounts ... just put several boxes on .... and email/s too :]
They wouldn't be very short then. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Multiple Twitter account support would be good. More and more apps and services support multiple accounts now.
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. yes, they might get longer, but, would be easy to remember ... plus, FF team might auction off the best, to start with ............................ :/] ..or, to reserve them ...do u still remember your photo site? :] ...http://kl.am/kol , if you dont mind :]

A. If post is heavily crossposted, you tend to 1.check all new groups, 2.some, 3.none. .... B. If lightly crossposted, 1.2.3. the same ....... C. 1. I Iike crossposted, 2. do not mind, 3.do not like ........D. other
I don't like crossposting very much. I find it's generally "abused" and makes all the groups redundant. There are a few groups I've unsubscribed to simply because every single post in them is cross posted to several places.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Is this referring to following the story, or crossposting it yourself?
- deusdiabolus
sorry - i made a typo - it should have been "1. check all new groups", NOT "newS groups" ... yes, referring to crossposting itself .... i think its a good group discovery tool, but sure , shouldn't be done all the time, and not too heavily /say over 5 crossposted/ ......
- pb:
I think 3 is absolute max on the crosspost - and often that's too much (some people post everything to 3 groups...everything)
