As a thought experiment, and just for purposes of discussion assuming the $50M pricetag for FF was correct ($15M cash + $35M Facebook equity), suppose FriendFeed had been formed under this sort of structure. these things better be set up "before" the act ..before valuation. ..so some sort of tools, shares, agreements .. This has been suggested in the past (I have been one of the supporters and proposers). No response from FF one way or the other but an number of others have expressed that they would definitely *not* like this (this response seems emotional to me - just because a feature exists there is no requirement to use it) - Brian Sullivan

true ! ... one button, but even that might be visible only per option .. press 1 to show it, press 11 to show it per default, press 11 again to roll back that default change .... that is what i call smart context driven keyboard shortcuts !! ... as you say, user who don't want features, should be able not to even see them .... clean is nice, no question ... we need clean power, though ... ui packed clean of the best aggregate functionality on the web - pb:

I personally gave up blogging shortly after I started using FF. But I still hanker occasionally for the ability to make posts that a longer, more detailed and with some more ability at greater expression (paragraphs, lists,bolding, emphasizing and maybe inline graphics would be on my list of wishes). - Brian Sullivan

Brian, have you tried Posterous? I think it's the perfect mid-point between FF and blogging engines with greater overhead. I tag-team FF and Posterous for just this reason, though alas I haven't recently had much time for longer posts. - Uche Ogbuji

At a minimum, FF could use a summary block. Yes people can (and do) use their first comment for this, but I'd like one that appears differently in the GUI and can be searched separately. This would *clearly* separate Title, summary and discussion and could even be used to summarize highlights after a long discussions (like those on Building43). I use friendfeed for microblogging instead of Tumblr or Posterous. Works great. I build up the posts with many "comments". That way I can have more text. Comments gets indexed by Google too, not only the entries. - Svartling

Just not feeling this suggestion. FF is real-time. Putting entire blog posts directly into the feed just seems wrong somehow. - Rahsheen the Dream

Rahsheen. I agree.. but people will find ways to accomplish what they want (one way or another). Building up entire blog post through a stack of comments is a perfect example.. I would MUCH rather read them on a true blogging platform. BTW comments from Blogger also get indexed as part of the post page!! - Chris Myles

@Petr.. I agree we come here because it aggregates functions, and some *basic* HTML functionality would be nice. But today we can't edit an existing post to add images, documents or change which groups an entry should appear in. This fragments discussions into chunks, which can only be found within FF (not embedded easily onto site as comments). Tags aren't imported from existing feeds... more... - Chris Myles

if you go to group edit settings, import service, custom rss/atom, then the second checkbox will be "Include entry description as a comment" .. so you end up with nice description comment imported, but, previously that counted as your, /the users/ entered comment, and so was messing up gm - my discussion list, and also statistics .. - pb:

Petr, yeah I've seen that but I'm wondering how it appears different in FF (from a comment). See http://ff.im/4fxjB for my issues. I really want to be able to determine and search on the RSS Description summary both in the tool and through the API. Can you point me to an example post of yours? Thanks. - Chris Myles

if i understand well your question - imported descriptions appear the same as comments. but previously were included in gm, and in count of "my comments" ..that's all ..but im repeating myself ... for further info, maybe best contact FF team ... - pb:

I don't like crossposting very much. I find it's generally "abused" and makes all the groups redundant. There are a few groups I've unsubscribed to simply because every single post in them is cross posted to several places. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
