even if you only own 1 computer you will be upgrading/replacing that computer every 2-3 yrs - so now in 2 years how will you migrate that data you have collected in 2 years
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Don't I know it, Louis. I'm currently using my old computer because my new one is on the fritz, but I have still avoided moving anything over because it's a huge PITA at this point.
- Rah-PM 2012
This conversation keeps making me think of Chi.mp. All it would need to do is combine with something like DropBox and maybe a little Google Docs on the side. Of course, you still don't own your cloud....
- Rah-PM 2012
Where is it actually stored, though?
- Rah-PM 2012
it could be cloud based with a sync to your local drive - depends on how techy you are - like a wordpress blog
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
My thing is, unless the server is in your house, your cloud is still owned by someone else, so you might as well use Google, Dropbox, or any of the other thousands (millions?) of services out there. If the server *is* in your house...meh. That's not a cloud :)
- Rah-PM 2012
but once there is an api and open data standards then anyone can sync anywhere using any service based on price and features
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
<--is listening sorry for not participating much tonight
- Mol, FF Music Lover
No prob, Molly. I am participating, but not listening.
- Louis Gray
louis - what about the android devs who still have not received the latest version of the SDK - that seems to be a non-google behaviour
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Is this pre-recorded? Otherwise I have no idea how you can be paying attention to Johnny's questions and chatting, LG. Unless it's just your BIG BIG BRAIN.
- Spidra Webster
My dad has a new android touch screen of some kind and he usually just leaves it in the car in the garage. I'm so jealous. I don't even have a data plan on my T-Mobile Dash.

- Spidra Webster
I would leave AT&T and take my iPhone with me the first opportunity - AND my daughter and I are the sorts who stood in line to upgrade last June.
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
here in Philadelphia area AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile all are very good
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
My fiance and all her fam have Verizon. They have VCast and stuff and can get on the "Internet" and download songs instantly and whatever. I don't really notice them having issues.
- Rah-PM 2012
Exactly, Mary. Straight to voicemail.
- Louis Gray
Internet is actually very good, and I can always get my texts (SMS).
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
I used to love T-Mobile, but our phones don't work in our home and they don't care. So Eff them.We are in a virtually dead area for them.
- Rah-PM 2012
Did Johnny just mention living next to a bush and then mention something firm in the next sentence? 0_o
- Louis Gray
MaryB, Louis - holy! That happens to me all the time on Rogers / my 1st Gen iphone - straight to voicemail when I staring at my phone waiting for it to ring.
- Micah
the iPhone works just fine for people in Europe also - because they don't have the cell phone mess we have in the US
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Yes, Louis, very impressive when I have relatives or clients trying to get hold of me and they KNOW the thing is in my pocket andI'm waiting for their call.
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
True, bear. So much of our problem in the states is due to the anti-consumer policy of tying hardware to a certain provider.
- Spidra Webster
I've experienced that but I was alone :(
- Rah-PM 2012
johnny's stadium issue is the same as what the SanFran folks experience - higher density of smart phone usage
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
What constitutes a private cloud, though?
- Rah-PM 2012
My wife now has an Android phone on the same network (Rogers). So far, it's never not rung. It's early, so we'll see.
- Micah
If I can't see it from anywhere, it's not really a cloud...is it?
- Rah-PM 2012
computers have gone mainstream - so that means that the mainstream behaviour will influence what happens in the computer realm
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
People send me embargoed stuff about products all the time and I only honor them because I'm a nice guy, but I don't understand why they bother telling me so early if the product isn't ready. Especially given the near real-time nature of blogs these days.
- Rah-PM 2012
surely it's always going to be the person who broke the story who broke the embargo?
