Well known in the contemporary art world for her exquisite tapestries and works on paper, Ramona Sakiestewa is one of Native America's most influential artists. Born of Hopi ancestry and raised in the American Southwest, she taught herself to weave by evolving and adapting techniques derived from prehistoric Pueblo weaving. Her work appears in the collections of numerous museums including the Smithsonian Institution.
