"We use twitter in many ways, to notify our followers of upcoming events; to get messages across on various campaigns we are running; to support our press office by notifying our followers of press statements on events and highlighting interesting blogs. Our twitter channel is also particularly useful in a crisis - notifying our followers of helpline numbers or giving timely updates on an emerging situation affecting British nationals. When our messages are re-tweeted they also reach a far wider audience. Twitter also allows us to interact with our followers - we respond to questions and in some instances ask our followers questions. We also, on occasion, live twitter from major events such as key speeches by the Foreign Secretary or Foreign Affairs questions in the House of Commons."
